Police civil matter for final hearing Wednesday

All eyes and ears will be turned to the Civil Division of the High Court on March 25, 2015 in the matter of five police officers who are facing charges in connection with a death of a Portsmouth man.

The officers and their legal team have been resisting and challenging the charges which are yet to be formally read to them.

The matter has been sent for judicial review but in January, High court Judge Bernie Stephenson issued a stern warning to all parties involved that “the court will not accommodate any further adjournments and or applications on this matter.”

Stephenson had accused both the prosecution and the defense of not complying to the instruction of the court.

“So I am going to allow the parties to put their house in order,” Justice Stephenson stated.

The officers, PC’s Orlan Vigille, Delvin Challenger, Martin Seaman, WPC Gemma Louis and Sergeant Hayden Morgan, were arrested and charged for the murder of Joshua Etienne who was found dead in police cells in Portsmouth on July 4, 2014, a day after he was arrested for possession of ammunition.

No charges have been read to them since.

The matter has been dogged by a number of issues including the departure of Lennox Lawrence as lead counsel for some of the officers.

However, other attorneys in the defense team have expressed optimism that the matter will proceed without Lawrence.

Waw padner. Who are you to tell anyone what to call their God. I can call him Jerry if i want and that should never be your business. Jah is a shortened for of Jehova/Yaweh acknowledged by millions in the world today. Understand or Overstand, which ever your are able to, that RASTA IS NOT A RELIGION. Religion refers to a systematic repetition of actions. Like you go to the market “religiously” on a saturday. The Catholic Church which was the main promoter of Jesus for centuries uses a Sunday Missal which spells out every sermon/reading etc for the year in advance and is just repeated year in year out. that is religion. RASTA IS A WAY OF LIFE. the reverance and adherance to universal law, which is love, doesnt stop after the so called christians leave church on saturday or sunday. Many of whom you see on a daily are dreads who do not subscribe to the livety of a rastafarian. Maybe thats why you sound so hateful when someone says Jah. Maybe you should stop being fearful, close minded.

Human rights watch? These people, as also some other so-called non-profit overseas organizations (I could mention a few) cannot fix what is in their country but they will go to extreme ends of scrutinizing what is occurring in other countries and providing advice. They should keep out.
