Police commit to building stronger relationship with the public

Acting Police Commissioner Daniel Carbon

Acting Police Chief Daniel Carbon has promised to make the police force more proactive and responsive to complaints from members of the public.

He gave these assurances while giving the commitment that he would work collaboratively with the rest of his team to ensure better performance.

The new top cop is aware of criticisms alleging a lack of professionalism on the part of some of his officers.

Acting Commissioner Carbon responded to those concerns when he addressed a crime and violence forum in Newtown on Thursday night.

“It is time that we work on it, do something meaningful, let the public see us, let the public hear us, let us patrol,” he said.

“It’s something we’ve been saying, patrol in the community; build a relationship with the public. You cannot stay at headquarters and in your stations and expect to get results and solve crime. I will try my best to ensure that the force build a relationship with the public,” Carbon promised.

He is encouraging wider community involvement in assisting the police to effectively carry out their functions.

“I urge you let us know what is affecting you. As the head of the force, I will listen, take note and will go back to the force and tell them what the concerns of the public are,” he told the forum.

Thursday’s Crime and Violence Forum was one of several organized by the Ministry of National Security to identify strategies to help prevent or significantly reduce serious criminal activity on the island.

well good luck with that, I would love to leave a society where my children are protected by men of integrity and guided by the principle that all of us are equal and deserving of justice. Where the rule of law prevails and fruitfulness can pour over our nation.. where we don’t have to fear giving the gift of a gold chain to our children for fear of them becoming a target, or to fear them going out even when they are of age because of the the proliferation of narcotics and firearms, and coke crazed drug addicts. roadsides littered with drunks, fiends and mongers of violence.. It is an Ideal I know…

but I would like a society where I can speak out for my rights or justice, and not fear for victimization.

One may be tentative in showering praise on the Acting Commissioner of police. However, Mr. Carbon does strike me as someone who intends to abandon the narrow and politically partisan Carrette-policing path. My friend Dr. Peter St Jean (originally from Trafalgar in the Roseau Valley) must be pleased to hear that Mr. Carbon is advocating the brand of policing known as Community-based policing.

Although, only time will tell, I am quickly becoming a Carbon convert as one can already feel the refreshing winds of change beginning to blow through the ranks of the police force. I like the talk, which is accompanied by some evidence of action. There is a sense of optimism as we veer away from the partisan Carrette-policing path. However, we will only start taking a complete round-about turn when we seriously, aggressively and professionally begin to investigate the number of outstanding case, paramount of which is the fire bombing case of Mano, getting Seko-Seco, and we confront the rogue elements within the force.

For now, the Acting Commissioner has evinced sufficient reasons for Dominicans to support his appointment as Commissioner.

I totally agree with you and some of those problems he created. He trust no one.He is not a people person. Certainly not a manager. At his first meeting he made that very clear.

Sir you need the cooperation of all the ranks to implement your plans and sadly it will take years because of the distrust of you be your fellow officers.

The man is making an effort to reach out to the public and encouraging the public to be each others keeper and we are on here talking a__ness.

To many time the public can help the police in their investigations, and never do anything but when the crime hits closer to home, everyone wants to cry down the police.

Fighting crime is a community effort. That is the only way we can make positive steps in combating the crime and drug waves hitting the place.

I am with you Mr. Acting Commissioner.

    Dear Mr Carbon!
    Congratulations on your appointment!
I must with all sincerity tell you that you cannot fight that war with physical methods. Are you a believer? You should give your life to Jesus Christ, because you yourself need protection against the forces of spiritual evil that you are fighting and will continue to fight. We do not fight with flesh and blood but against an evil wicked system controlled by satan. Get a body of people to be in constant pray for you Sir.

Police work is doing the same thing good over and over, simple said, to get things right we have to go back to basic. Robert Peel who started the British Constabulary which later evolved and brought about “THE POLICE”,as we know it today. The lesson remains relevant today, Without the public`s involvement and working with the police our police Force will not be effective cause the public is the eyes and ear of the police Force and that should never be over looked at no time. Remember, in society there will be bad eggs amongst us and there is where we all have to come together to eradicate those malcontents in our Lawful society. Law and order must be maintained at all cost. Any time we walk away from those principles we are doomed to failure. IT was true in my time in the Police Force it will hold true for generations to come, therefor, lets re invent our efforts to fight Lawlessness where ever it show its ugly head. None of that is new but it is being acknowledged by our New top cop, keep it up Carbon we trained you well at the Criminal Investigation Department and we are proud of you and wish you well. Coming from a former partner in crime. We are praying for you and the other rank and file also all those who join us to stamp out Lawlessness.”DB”

Encouraging words from the boss, but first of all moral in the force is at a all time low. You cannot have men working in the out stations living in deplorable conditions. If any of the officers dear to complain, the solution by the commissioner and his deputy is to transfer that person to another station where situations are the same…Until you pay a little more attention to the well being of your menthe public is not going to see anything substantial from the force…

Mr. Carbon, my hope is that you will not allow my nephew who was murdered in Wesley more than two years ago case to become dormant and forgotten while his murderer goes free!

Let us not allow Emanuel whose house was firebomb to go uninvestigated and the culprits involved remain free.

If you have the authority I would anticipate you will request that the services of the United States FBI, or Scotland Yard of London detectives be solicited to assist in solving these unsolved heinous crimes which no one seems to be giving any attention to at the moment.

When we speak tough, we must act if we wish to accomplish anything significant.

In the case of my nephew, someone confessed to his murder, the police claim that he was incompetent, and set him free though he was arrested for the crime.

Ironically, days after the police in Wesley released him, he was also found dead with his throat slashed in the same fashion that my nephew’s throat was slashed.

That is a clue that more than one person is involved in my nephew murder, and the confessed murderer’s death.

There are murders walking the streets of the North, and in particular Wesley.

At the time of his slaughter, the police blamed it on Vaughn Dods, as everything else, the problem is Vaughn Dodds was in jail when my nephew was murdered, and while the confessed murderer himself was killed!

If the investigation is closed perhaps it is time that you ordered the matter be reopened, someone in Wesley knows who killed my nephew, I know that my siste, my nephew mother is poor, also the mother of the confessed killer, and where as both my nephew, and his confessed killer were drug users, that is not be a reason for the police to ignore their murder.

Emanuel case should not be ignored either.

Put your toughness to work, perhaps you might be successful where your predecessors have failed!

You may even discover what happened to all the people who have disappeared on the North of the island.

    From Wesley to past Portsmouth!

Vaughn had nothing to do with my nephew’s death as far as I am concerned, Vaughn’s grandfather just happens to be my sister, and I an uncle, I doubt he could be so vicious to even think of murdering his very own blood.

No need to inform anyone that he was exonerated of all the crimes it was alleged he committed

    Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque

Daniel, I have always known you to be a good boy and so far, the success the police have been having having since you became the police chief, has a lot to do with your ability to work with people. My advise to you is to stay away from the partisan politics which your successor brought into the force, which eventually caused many nationals to have no confidence in the force. So let Skeritte and rest of politicians play their politics while you serve all of us with respect and equalitity. God bless you and let’s go Danny!
