Police condemns violent behaviour

Police PRO Claude Weekes

Police Spokesman Claude Weekes has condemned the occurrence of some recent violent incidents and has made another call for persons to find peaceful ways to settle their disputes.

In light of last night’s shooting in Wesley, which has left Vaughn Dodds nursing gunshot wounds at the Princess Margaret hospital and a weekend incident where Thomas Paul of Tarish Pit was chopped in the head with a cutlass by Peterson Charles of the same community, Weekes said that police will spare no efforts in bringing violent offenders to justice.

“We categorically condemn violence, and the police will spare no effort. We are concerned about offensive weapons and firearms – they’re dangerous. We have to learn to settle our issues. We are calling on the public citizenry to be mindful of these issues especially during Christmas time,” he told Dominica News Online.

The Dominica Police Force is such a joke !
I have already placed a $50,000 dollar bet that this land will be lawless and totally corrupt within the next ten years unless Dominicans rise up like the proud people we always were !

It’s time the Govt get tough on repeat offenders and personnel who use firearms to commit crimes. Anyone using an unlicensed firearms should be sentenced to no less than 10 yrs in prison. Maybe that might begin to get their attention before our beautiful DA turns into a banana republic!!!!

talk, talk, talk, empty platitude, when are the police actually going to enforce the law. bus drivers doing as they please, you hardly ever see a police actually carrying our their police duty. they love to speed in the police vehicle not carrying out police duties but their private business.
inspector get real those policemen down here are so ineffective, a complete joke and poor excuse for policement.

We support Weeks’ efforts. Unfortunately yes, that’s what happens. It happened to me not too long ago – Dominicans are wary of police who are also Informers. That’s another serious issue getting in the way.

“The Police will spare no effort”, but when they are brought before the magistrate or judge and found guilty, what punishment are they given? The penalty and punishment does not fit the crimes in this day and age. Those laws on the books need to be revised, and this should have been done more than a decade ago. This is an emergency situation, because you have people committing crime over and over again, and they are fined or serve a little time, and are back out committing more bold and brazen crimes. When will we learn to open our eyes and see what’s happening. Why don’t the leaders of this country realize that these criminals are getting braver and braver and better and better at what they do? Yet still a lot of people try to blame the judges and especially the magistrates, but they can only operate and sentence criminals according to the guidelines of the law. The defense lawyers are very happy to serve their clients and get them off with little or no punishment, and when the same criminal committs another crime, its another job for the lawyer, under the same legal guidelines as the previous crime. These criminals are smarter that the government and the legal system and they are taking advantage as long os they can. THE LEGAL GUIDELINES NEED TO BE CHANGED, SO THAT THESE CRIMINALS CAN SERVE SOME REAL HARD LABOR, WITHOUT ALL THESE SPECIAL TREATMENT AND AMENITIES OF LIFE THAT THEY ARE PROVIDED. iT IS THE VERY TAXPAYERS THAT THEY VIOLATE THAT ARE PAYING FOR THEIR VACATION AT STOCKFARM. I CHALLENGE THE AG, THE MINISTER OF LEGAL AFFAIRS AND THE GOVERNMENT BY EXTENSION, TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, BEFORE WE HAVE BECAOME A NATION OF UNCONTROLLABLE BEHAVIOR AND CRIMINAL ACTIVITY.

my brother you can codemn till you purple in the face. As a matter of fact no one condones violent behavior…The fact of the matter is you need active patrol in the communities not just the big villages like ports mouth roseau and grand bay come on i believe our police need to be trained alot better protect and serve that is your job. Its seems as if alot of things going on and the police are ignorant to the fact open your eyes guys open your eyes.
