Effective immediately Assistant Superintendent of Police, Claude Weekes, will no longer report on police matters as the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force has established a Public Relations Committee.
The committee consists of Superintendent of Police (Ag) Richmond Valentine, Weekes, Sergeant Pelham Jno Baptiste and Woman Police Sergeant Janie Pierre.
They were among police officers who successfully completed a Media Relation Course held at Police Headquarters earlier this year.
A press release from the police said with immediate effect Sergeants Jno Baptiste and Pierre will report on police-related matters.
“We recognize the value and importance of a good working relationship with the media and we will continue to disseminate timely and accurate information to the public,” the release said.
My question is…why couldn’t have Mr. Weekes or why wasn’t Mr. Weekes selected to participated in this Media Relation Course held at Police Headquarters earlier this year and become part of this committee.
I know workshops held by the service usually extends to persons who are/have and will (in the future) function in the area in which the workshop is intended for.

In the more developed nations of the world where one can step out of a certain field, and into another he could have moved on, not subjecting himself to such abuse!
We ask why are they muzzling Weekes; could it be that in a psychological way his enemy’s in the police force are victimizing him hoping he will exist into retirement?
Just recently, a top, well-trained police investigator was posted to the traffic dept. That means less resource for investigations into serious criminal activities in the country. Is the CID made weaker as a result? strange? surprised?
Weekes demoted to the sidelines of a committee, while the PRO role has been snatched from him. If one is doing a good enough job in an area, should that person suffer such humiliation?
Are those hand-picked to inform the public on police matters more capable, more knowledgeable, more articulate than Weekes, who seemed to have enjoyed relating to the people, informing of pertinent matters on crime, child/ women abuse, moral/ethical behaviour, obedience of the Law and Constitution.
Weekes always spoke well of the Police force, always advocated for professionalism within the Police Force. He believes in the saying and reminds us, “What is good for the goose, is good for the gander.”
Weekes should never be treated like that.
I have no problem in making changes , but the problem is some of these officers let the World know where their political leaning is , Pelham is out spoken and we don’t expect him to say anything against the Government or the system . Mr Weekes on the other hand has displayed a great level of professionalism , no one can say Mr.Weekes is ” Red or Blue ” . He is a very balance and fair individual .
Irrespective of what you all think in the police department, no one can do it like Mr. weeks. If he does not speak on the behalf of the police he will speak on the pulpit.

Hello and good evening my people . Well I suspect that someone in the upper ranks of the Police Department don’t want Mr Weekes addressing the public in regards to controversial Police issues or someone in the Government. Mr Weekes must now report to Mr Valentine but I can assure my people than the Sergeants won’t be addressing the public if there is a Police Involved shooting. I think he is being muzzled because of what he said when the Police Officer was arrest for illegal possession of a Firearm and he knew the Officer wasn’t suspended. The Department didn’t forward a request to remove the Officer firearm therefore the case couldn’t be prosecuted therefore he misled the public. Now the public will be address by two Sergeants who could be held accountable if they mislead the public.
Greetings all, Mr Weekes did an excellent job for many years. before him were Cyril Carrette, Antoine Martin etc and then Mr Weekes was given his opportunity to serve in that area. He was not a qualified or experienced Media Relations person but over the years and with his training he became great at it. Now what was the problem with the others when Weekes got the chance to serve in that position and when John Carbon was replaced by Mr Weekes giving Mr Weekes his second shot at the position? I did not read all that garbage. He has to move on to other responsibilities and pass on the knowledge to a young team hopefully the two will excel. Why you all act as if the position is Weekes own for life. Should he be left in that position for life? Great Job Weekes, welcome to Media Relations Pellam and Janie. Give them their chance to learn from Weekes and to one day command public respect. Should the COP wait for public approval to prepare the future Media Relations officers of his Force?
Allu Dominicans not easy!!! Congratulations to the officers who have successfully completed the course and promoted to the PRO committee. I see this as a grooming of individuals to effectively continue the work of the police force re: community/media relations in the absence of others. The same needs to be done in all sectors, Education, Sports, Public works, etc.

I think in my view as a citizen who has listened to Mr Weekes, a well respected man over the last several years, that this is a bit disregardful to the brother in a sense. I welcome the idea of the committee .No problem but I think the problem is that Weeekes should have been given to head the committee and I have no doubt things would have moved on smoothly from there. What i think should happen is that the NS Minister and the Police Chief should sit and revisit the decision and have Weekes head the committee. In its current state it looks more like a demotion. Even the members of the committee should have the gall to say ‘hey we respect this man and we think he should head the committee and we work with him.’ Sometimes God uses simple people like us to give wisdom to people in authority. If this decision was fairl then hurray but if Weeekes was spited because of his religious stance then God will plague some people with serious sicknesses. This is prophetic. Promote Weekes please.

God is good all the time all the time God is Good. Those who sit idle by and allow these sorts of Phychology 101 to take place. While i understand the” Bet” a Rock and a hard place perspective as it relates to our beloved Police Force which I was proudly part of as a senior office. Brothers and sisters, comrades and dedicated officers trust me I feel your pain. In mydays it was taking place but a little bit more suttled.. One is sure that there was considerable thought given to the creation of this new police committee and to their appointment to that committee. One wonders though why this sounds a bit like a Peoples’ Republic Committee?

Has Weekes been there since he became a Police? Isn’t there succession planning,does it have to be the same person all the time? I remember ONPhillip as the head and there have been many after him,they all cannot stay in one place forever,we have to move on.
