Acting Superintendent of Police Richmond Valentine has announced new appointments and acting appointments within the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force while at the same time saying a police recruitment drive is coming to a close with 38 out of 40 vacant positions to be filled.

He also said lawmen are taking part in the first Media Relations course which he said will have a positive impact on the organization.

The following are the officers appointed to various ranks: Inspector Matthew Cuffy have been appointed to the office of Assistant Superintendent of Police; Sergeant George Theophille to the position of Inspector of Police and Corporal Mathias Etienne appointed to the position of Sergeant of Police.

The following are the officers who have been appointed in the acting positions: Assistant Superintendent Richmond Valentine appointed to act in the position of Superintendent of Police; Inspector Yoland Cuffy appointed to act in the position of Assistant Superintendent of Police; Sergeant Belgrove Charles appointed to act in the position of Inspector of Police; Sergeant Vincia Christmas appointed to act in the position of Inspector of Police; Corporal Julien Laurent appointed to the position of Sergeant of Police and Corporal Harold Laurent to the position of Sergeant of police.

Valentine said the force is in its final stages of “increasing its human resource” and training for the new recruits will begin soon.

“It is expected that sometime next month we will begin Police recruit training,” he stated.

He said there are currently 40 vacancies and 38 are expected to be filled after the training.

Meantime for the very first time Law Enforcement Officials are undergoing a Media relations Course.

Valentine views this as a positive development.

“The commonwealth of Dominica Police Force views the media as a valuable partner in maintaining the consistency of communication within the public,” he said. “As a consequence the Chief of Police initiated the first media relations course in an effort to improve the accurate and timely dissemination of information to the public.”

He continued, “We believe that this training program will have a positive impact across our entire organization as we continue our efforts to educate and train our officers and effective media police model sets the stage for both organizations jointly become shepherds of the public to provide guidance that can save lives, promote information and intelligence sharing, educate the public, reduce mass hysteria, increase public confidence and build a better understanding of the police, media and community roles and relationships.”

Some of these police in new positions think they are above the law, some of them break the law more than the common criminal and yet they still get positions. Some of them are pedophiles, molesters and homos who prey on youngsters, some of their superiors are aware of complaints filed by civilians yet they still promote them. And i am reliably inform that those that do the dirty work for skerrit gets promoted once their alligience is shone. I am disgusted by the police force. But God will deal with them, in time to come. EVERY DOG MUST HAVE HIS DAY.

Comrade my advise is if you cant beat them. join them. My promotion is already ordained by God, therfore im not afraid. when are we going to learn that our police force is not going any where when we continue to place responsibilities to square pegs in round holes. no pun intended:. and who the cao fit by all means wear it. From time immorrial we continue to ru our force from the bottom up and not wit a collective efforts. it was bad years gone its dangerous in todays force. Its the first to the races bring news back stabing each other. We have to learn to leave the politics to the politicians, and do our citizens of our beloved country a favor and provide us with proper policing. Its more than high time. Comrade Weeks no weapon formed against you will prosper, if as it is alleged you semms to csare certain segements of the police service with truth to power as a result you are being made an Example. Comrade! when the rain falls it does not fall on one mans house, remember that!

Well done fellas for enlisted in the Dominica police force. It is a tuff road ahead but I convinced you all will succeed. One word of advise, you never heard of a police boy, so we all are police men. ALL policemen are intelligent because they are incharge of 300 people. Barge of courage. Bless are the peace makers for they shall inherit the Kingdom of God. Use your uniform well and serve your Country Proudly

It would be of great benefit to Dominicans IF Public Relations would form part of the curriculum at recruit training. This course should be taught the final week of the training along with a one day course in ETHICS before the passing out parade takes place. Too many recruits leave Morne Bruce with the wrong attitude which does not help.

While the CDPF has a few disciplined officers, I am of the view that the bad elements continue to taint the force as a largely undisciplined, unprofessional and inept institution. Some officers still curse, smoke and encourage others to break the law, much to the chagrin of disciplined members of the public. Past recruitment methods were heavily flawed, and created officers who are loyal to a political party, and not the state.(parl rep police). The top echelon leaves much to be desired, since their loyalty is to a person, and not Dominica.QUITE FRANKLY, SERIOUS CHANGES NEED TO BE EFFECTED, in the force, and the sooner, the better.

Hunter appears to be stuck in police promotion quick sand, maybe it is time to put his disgust in calypso. As for Weeks, it is time he realizes, with this administration, honesty does not pay.

    • July 18, 2015

i concur! the force is no more for honest speaking truth to power and really educating the public. but it welcomes those whoes mouth is stuck up them politicians #####. What a shame the force i entered had its problems as do all policeforces around the world. But when you have police officers openly crooking others to be first in line to receive promotion, soly on their connection to politician so and so. man! we in big trouble. a realistic view of our forces send a clear messages that a force divided amongst its ranks is going down rapidly. God put a hand.

Try to get intelligent officers please, not fellas that sign up for police just for a salary. Criminals getting smarter, our officers have to get smarter as well or they will sell them and fall for their bribes.

Are you telling them that they should avoid getting more people like the 50 years plus Woman Special Constable from a northern village appointed to that position after the election?   .

We also need physically fit officers who can walk the stairs at HQ when needing administrative assistance without blowing a gasket (breathless) like the same person does everytime. Sadly she already holds a job elsewhere but was given that second position as a pay back for hard campaigning. Sad, sad indeed.   . God bless and protect those hard working officers who believe in serving the public and NOT the politicians.

      Assertive, NOT Aggressive!
