Police get high marks for locating Shanice Jemmott

Shanice Jemmott

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has lauded the efforts of police in locating Shanice Jemmott who had been missing since February 17.

“Clearly because of the police consistency and determination, they were able to successfully locate Shanice and Webster Edmund,” Skerrit said in a statement on Tuesday.

He commended Minister for National Security Charles Savarin and the task force put in place to search for Jemmot and her alleged kidnapper Webster Edmund.

“I really want to publicly recognize the efforts of police and to say to them that this was a job well done and everybody is finally relieved that both individuals were found,” Skerrit stated.

Meanwhile, Parliamentary Representative for St. Joseph, Kelver Darroux, said the community is rejoicing over the safe return of Shanice.

“It is a joyous day and we are happy that she has been found. The joy being experienced now is very tremendous and I want to publicly commend the police for all their efforts. Forty days has elapsed and we were always hopeful that she would have been returned. As a friend of the family, I am very happy that she has been found,” Darroux said.

i thank god the almighty for watching over shanice life, he was in control all the while, but i do not believe even if this man did this they must , they must burn him, know it was not man who gave him life , certainly it was the almighty father, : they should punished him the hard way not by killing him. u know his blood will be on who ever kill him i can tell u this . all we need to do right now is pray, that does not happen again to any more woman. peace and love.

DON’T U ALL REALIZE WHAT IS GOING ON PPL? GOD IS ALIVE. THE TIME HAS COME. THIS WAS JUST A TEST AND NONE OF U HAVE REALIZED THE SEASON WE ARE IN. WHAT HAPPEN TO JESUS? 40 DAYS AND 4O NIGHTS. THIS WAS NOT A COINCIDENT. THIS IS WHERE INTELLIGENCE COMES IN. IF YOU ALL WERE INTERESTED IN HAVING JESUS IN YOU ALL LIVES ALL THE GARBAGE TALK WOULD BE SET ASIDE AND THINK OF THE MESSAGE THAT JESUS IS TRYING TO SEND TO US. TO SHANICE’S MOM MY LADY IT IS TIME TO GIVE YUR LIFE TO CHRIST IF U HAVEN’T. THIS WAS A TEST FOR ALL OF US BUT NO ONE REALIZED…… SO SAD….

GLORY TO GOD THAT SHANICE HAS BEEN FOUND. Again people in glass houses must not throw stones. Judge not for so shall you be judged. I only have one more thing to say.I am glad that with the tip of the young lady to the police (who is taking all the credit) who was able to find Shanice and her abductor, I just hope that she is paid. Even though she does not get the full amount, but at least the amount from the Government (20,000) should be paid to her. A reward is a reward.

Honestly….sometimes i do not know what to think about SOME Dominicans – whether they are naive, uneducated, uninformed, blind or just plain STUPID!!!!

Yes there are questions to be answered – but we should all be thankful that she was found ALIVE. The police found her ALIVE, I didn’t and you didn’t,.

So the blame the police for taking so long game is POINTLESS and SENSELESS. The negativity spewing form people’s mouths regarding the time the police took shows a lot about their understanding of issues. This case from the looks of it was not cut and dry. There seems to have been a lack of communication and cooperation from what I have read. We need to stop blaming the police for doing what they can with the resources they have.

I have heard about cases in developed countries where crimes like that occur – and guess what – often times, the victims are found DEAD, or are NEVER found.

So i commend the police for vigorously working with the little they had and for finding this girl alive.

I commend Skerritt for recognizing the efforts of the police in finding this child.

And for those who continue to sit behind the pcs spewing trash and nonsense… ask yourself – “What did i contribute to the search to find her?’

First and foremost let me commend all Dominicans at home and abroad for taking such an interest in this case. Pat yourselves on the back for coming together and being united in this cause. I honestly believe that your voices were heard and I am proud to call myself Dominican.

Let me send my best wishes to the young lady. It will undoubtedly be a tough road ahead but I honestly believe that her new extended family will be right there with her to support her along the way. The police force for having found the young lady and arrested the perpetrator without incident. Well done boys. The prime minister for having echoed the sentiment of everyone who posted on this site in asking for the safe return home of the young lady.

It is with sadness that I read the sentiments inquiring about the Shanice’s part in this crime. Rest assured people this is a girl who was taken advantage of. She is a victim and that alone. She was manipulated and taken advantage of by someone who is nothing short of an animal. May the long arm of justice give him his just reward. (If the people do not get to him first)

People take care to not attach stigmas to this young woman. Afford her the courtesy and respect which she deserves. Allow her to resume her life as normally as she possibly can.
I do believe that the young lady could have been found sooner but I rather that she be found alive than in any other way. We can now move on.

Fairness are u a policeman/woman? do u no anything about search and rescue? were u on the team of policemen who spent countless nights searching tirelessly for the two individuals? when their families had to stay without them while they were in the bushes looking? how many persons have disappeared in D/ca and have not been found? we may be small but we have enough ravines and forest to hide. so ease up on the police please and give them their credit when it is due.

After the police in utah eliminated elizabeth smarts parents as suspect they made it abundantly clear that the young lady was kidnapped and held against her will. I believe in this case the police should inform the public whether or not this young lady shanice was kidnapped or went willingly. We don’t need the details of what went on. All that we need to know is if she was taken against her will. What so complex about this? I mean you have people in a community on edge and if this is the first kidnapping in the area it won’t be the last. Because thats all one person need to think they can start abducting people kids. The country was in a big uproar and you all ask people to be concerned. Now that she is back it seems like there is a big cover up an I believe the family especially the mother was totally responsible for the disappearance of her child. Directly or indirectly she has a part to play in it. Something doesn’t seem right and the response of her mom was clearly very weird and unsympathetic . But hey….

    March 29, 2011

If the guy Kidnapped her, as everyone else suggests, then he should be severely punished.

But my God, if he didn’t and she willingly followed him, she should also be punished. Not as severe as the guy should be, because he was much older than her, even if she didn’t act her age.

everyone should be held accountable for their actions.

As for the Police : did you all have a specific search area? Did you all have any sort of plan? as to where to look? This is Dominica, she was much closer than you all looked!

I am not sure… a great amount of gratitude is deserving. Glad that her family and the rest of us (her friends and neighbors) can stop worrying now.

Forty Days to find a child on such a small island with so few people is nothing to sing about. Even worse, the police saying the child never left the island. That is weak police work. People have been seeing the child and others knew all about this but the police could not get the necessary info or simply did not want to get it.
I am happy the child has been returned, but I think the police could have done much better.

Another thing, where is Weeks? Now the child is found and glory has to be given, Carette is on radio and weeks out of sight again. That is soooooooooo lame.

My friend, don’t be too gullible. The police did not do any special work or investigating to find this child. Someone tipped them off, that’s all. Even people who don’t live in DA had more info on the child than the police right there in St Joe. You call that good police work? If that was your child, you would probably want to sue the police for their hopelessness.

I totally agree with you on that!!!!! Well said, I of took a back step on Weeks when I heard him this morning.. Like the policemen are supposed to get some kind of award for doing what they are paid to do…. 40 days on 289 square miles among 69,000 people, you can that the expectations of Dominicans are not that high if think that performance is worth so much praise…Tell them to watch 48 hours on A&E. where police are able to solve a murder in 48 hours among millions of people, sometimes covering several states!! We have so much to learn in our little Island, we are so far behind. Moreover, the child is not even 50 miles away from her home. There is much more to this story.

Not forgetting the number of unsolved cases in the US. N the thousands of innocent ppl sitting in jail. While time is very important in cases like that, it is not the only factor. For every crime they solve in the US there is an unsolved or wrongfully convicted. Read the stats

And you have the audacity to call people ignorant? Dominica can go in America 2 thousand times, You think America does not have hill and canyons and vast, vast, vast land? hahahaahah! Alas I forgive! I like that, thats just stupid to compare 48 hours on A&E to our local police and resources. America has all it’s street cameras, high tec resources to find their criminals, we rely on the tip offs of our people. Thats what we have so thats what we use. Thank God shanice has been found. actually love the word is Consensual not consentual the t is dropped in the transformation
Idk if there’s a difference between the english and the american spelling however so you could both be right

No we are not too small. Start hiking you will understand. There are so many places to hide. There are so many places to throw a body = never to be found.,

I’m curious why initially it was said that their disappearances were unrelated though…just wondering?

    Anyone could clear this up?

They did not want Edmund to run. I guess had he known that he was suspect, he’d maybe try to leave the Idsland. They do the same here in the US. Many times they KNOW the criminal’s identity but will wait, pretend, until they have enough to nabhim or her. When the public has too much knowledge or info, we tend to ruin the investigation! Just my two cents though.
