After numerous requests, police PRO, Pellam Jno Baptiste has said he has no official reports on an incident at a wedding in Loubiere that left at least two people hurt.

The incident took place last Saturday evening and on Tuesday afternoon Jno Baptiste told DNO that he has no releases on the matter.

The fracas took place between a group from Loubiere and one from Castle Bruce.

Reports are that the two groups began hurling stones and bottles at each other during the reception. Members of one group retreated to the Resource Center and locked themselves inside.

However, the other group, reportedly from Loubiere and led by a young man wielding a cutlass, went to the center and began breaking down the door. The group eventually broke through the door and began hurling bottles and stones inside, although the place was filled with people including children.

A bus carrying guests for the wedding reception was also attacked by the group from Loubiere.

Many on the scene had criticized the apparent slow pace of the police in investigating the matter. Only one policeman appeared at the scene with an ambulance, that responded to the incident, but he did not take statements from anyone. About an hour later, a single policeman turned up on a motorcycle but reports indicate he made no attempts at interviewing eyewitnesses in the matter.

However, MP for Roseau South, Joshua Francis, has said the police are investigating the matter and charges such as battery, wounding, malicious damage, assault, and breach of peace may be instituted against those involved in the incident.

Such a statement by PRO, Pellam Jno Baptiste shows incompetence on behalf of the DPF. I am also bewildered why The PRO officer would make such a statement, it is counteractive and an embarrassment to The DPF. When someone is admitted to the emergency as a result of injuries sustained by a violent act is it not protocol for the medical personnel to inform the Police thus establishing an “official report. ” An incident of such magnitude happened and reported in the news showing pictures of the injured attended to by emergency personnel and videos of the perpetrators,, do the Police need to have a so called official report to start an investigation, there is clear cut evidence of a heinous crime committed. It is also reported by witnesses that a Police officer arrived on the scene, if such is the case, then why did he not make a report of the crime to his chain of command. This indecent clearly shows incompetence by The DPF, time for change.

DNO will you stop punlicizing negativity . If you don’t know what happened shut your mouth until you find out. You went on spree blaming the 911 system only to find out that the response was inadequafe.who are you blaming now? ARE you going to apologize to the 911 system. 2016 leap year is coming to an end. PUT water in your wine. Stop the negativity and your hindrance to progress and look towards more positive and progressive reporting in 2017 and for Dominica’s sake start now.

How can Mr Skerritt tell us that he has full confidence in this type of reaction from police chief Carbon.I would like to say to Mr Skerritt that he may have full confidence in the police chief but most citizens don’t.Not even his minister of national security has confidence in Carbon. It’s too much at this point and Skerritt needs to respond to the concerns of the people.

There was a problem with E-911. The operators must always be on the job and alert. Hope this is the last time this occurred.
More than one police should have been on the scene. The police must ever be ready to talk to witnesses and make note of their statements.

But the missed an opportunity to get the best information available which is immediately following the incident. That way people don’t have a lot of time to alter their version of what they saw.
