Police hunt suspect in Possie shooting

Police are in search of a suspect in connection with Saturday morning’s shooting in Portsmouth, which has left 36-year-old Abraham Prince of Colihaut hospitalized.

Prince is still receiving medical attention at the Princess Margaret Hospital. He was shot in the leg.

The incident occurred outside a popular nightclub in Lagoon, Portsmouth.

Police spokesman Claude Weekes said the authorities have a suspect and is actively pursuing him. He did not reveal any details about the individual.

This is the second shooting incident in Portsmouth, which has left the victim with wounds to the leg. The last such victim is 36-year-old Georges George who is now bound to a wheelchair.

He was shot last week Thursday with what police suspect to be a high-powered gun. The weapon is still to be recovered.

I hear the Acting Chief of Police denigrating the legal profession (rightly so). However, how does he allow those 2 sisters who alledgedly killed their brother, the freedom to walk from Magistrate Court unfetered. These ladies are waving and smiling as though they are celebrities.
They should have been in handcuts and foot restraints, that would give them a sense that this is a serious matter they are involved in.
Everyone in Da critizing the other, let them first clean up their house. I am no friend of the legal system, but when last did you see police patrol in Roseau at night. In Mahaut, they painted no parking signs on the road, keep clear, when last did you see a policeman there to enforce the law. especially during rush hour. All vehicles from the north have to go through this bottleneck, I repeat where is the police.
The only time you see them out in force is at month end when they are checking drivers’s credentials so that they can make some money.

Bring back capital punishment and carry it out in the public. The police force must also be investigated and bring all those found guilty to justice, they should be the ones upholding the law but u find them breaking it. Some of them are the one’s facilitating the sale of fire arms. Some of them are the one’s facilitating the trafficking of drug related activities, some of them are also directly involved in murder. We had police killing people all over the island in the past. for example, a copral at the salybia police station shot Sawil Bruney of St Cyr mutiple times in his chest- cold blooded murder. Recently , another officer under the influence of alcohol will fully shot Stanton from guellete river twice in his head- another murder case and many multile case of police brutality especially in the carib territory. we never get a fair trial for these so called law officers. what does this mean? it means that someone out their is still holding the grudge against these people and when the opportune time arise actions are being taken against them by the people. some times we only see the event/ crime but we need to look further into what has hapened in the past. some people think that if one member of a family does something that by all means if they can’t get the person maybe another family memeber will face the consequencies. Think maybe many kalinago people haven’t forgiven Copral Rats, and XXXX. this also apply to other citizen who has grudges against other people. This simply means that the legal system is leaving the citizen to take action by themselves to their satisfaction. Anyway i have forgiven Rat for killing my kalinago brother, and i would like to call on all other person holding grudges to forgive other and lets live in harmony. Crime does not pay and finally i beleive in capital punishemnt so bring it back. If i commit a crime once i am found guilty give me the maximum sentence .

Imposing or reintroducing capital punishment will be useless if there is no one convicted, nor if procecutor cannot win a non-marijuana case nor get a murderer(s) convicted.
So don’t bring that up, it’s a known issue that procecutors are very weak.

    Tanty,

I have been reading the DNO news like yourself and I must state I echo the very said sentiment like you have written, what is happening to our island. Just yesterday I stated that our population is very small, we are just over SeventyThousand People. (Please correct me if my statistics are incorrect) The rate these crimes are being risen needs to come to an end. Please my people stop and reconsider as the golden rules state ” Do unto others as we would have others done unto us”) we all have families and friends and we would not like it for our selves. Please I am beging my people stop!.

I really pray that the culprit or culprits wil be found as this just cannot keep going on. I am from Portsmouth and I know time changes and so do men. I need to ascertain what the bible quoted is coming to pass that we will hear rumours of these things, hearing al these things? Home you are in my thoughts and prayers especially as the Creole and Independence is approaching.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.
The president needs to take over the country from the PM and bring back some semblance of peace and dignity. Use his powers and declare a state of emergency. The police need to take down those behind the organized crimes in Dominica but can only do that if the PM and some of his cohorts are out of the way. Take a page from Mexico’s book. They stuck their heads in the sand for far too long and now they are paying the price. We have too many Dodus Coke’s in government and certain communities.

The biggest example of the Dodus Coke movement is the RED CLINIC. This clueless government have destroyed our country and its time for change. Not tomorrow but right now. Marshal law have to be imposed in Possie, Calibishie, Mahaut, Tatan area and Grandbay as a start. Lock up all reputed drug Barons on criminal suspicion or arrest them under the terroist act as a threat to the state. The laws are on the books. I call on the Commissioner of police to do your job without fear, favor, malice or ill will and arrest those in high society who have broken our laws. The police in every community knows the drug barons so don’t give us excuses about a report have to be made. We need to take this country back. Enough is enough! No more excuses! We need actions that will bring solutions. Heaven only help those who help themselves!

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against the spiritual host of wickedness of the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand”. Ephesians 6: 12-13

People of Dominica we are now in the stage of spiritual warfare. This means that Satan is obsessed in making us believe that he is gaining victory against God, as he manipulates some of our human minds to create havoc in our lives and our Land, the way by which he believes we will turn against the reverend fear that we maintain towards Almighty God, in the Person of Jesus Christ. But God is also executing His control, which is always manifested in the end, depending on how we maintain His strength in us. That is why what is taking place in Dominica is known as “SPIRITUAL WARFARE” Satan and God are up to a great fight for and against us. God is for us; Satan is against us. Whose side are you, people of Dominica, whose side are you on?

So now it is up to us to decide, do we want to give Satan the victory or do we want to remain on God’s side; that we might see His glory in our lives and the lives of those around us?

Some people are expressing fear: They are saying things like: “I am afraid to go out just in case the next bullet or knife stab is for me.” “I don’t want to go back to Dominica; I am safer where I am now” “Dominica is worse than that place and those places and so on and so forth” Others are putting the full blame on our government or those in charge of law and order in Dominica. That is the exact attitude which Satan is using against us.

Yes, we have seen enough or to much, for us to be extremely concerned, and have all sorts of questions in our minds. But we cannot lose the faith, that God is still in control. God has to show us the wickedness of Satan in our lives–which is what He is doing right now–the only way we can turn to Him for His cleansing and sanctification in our lives and our surroundings. Just remember that whether people die through the crime, or they remain alive to be charged with whatever the crime is, God remains in control of the outcome of all those things.

We already have the abundant blessings of God through His natural creation of our country. But God knows that we will not be complete in experiencing the fullness of Love, which is His Spiritual nature–the Life that He wants us to live forevermore, unless He wipes out the attitude and conducts of the children of Satan who wanders on the grounds of our country or even live in our personal lives.

People of Dominica, we need to be properly armed for spiritual warfare, not with the weapons of physical forms or those produced by our human minds; but they Ways of God’s Love in attitude and conducts, that we might be able to stand against Satan’s schemes. “And this is the victory that overcome the world, even our faith”. This power of faith works through those who are born of God, God with the nature of Love in His Person, Jesus Christ. 1st. John 5:4

Our faith in God’s power and authority along with our desire to surrender to His Will, through humility, trust, and obedience, is the only way by which we can overcome, to have victory for the glory of God, and the goodness of Life in us. I know that it can happen.

@ Prissy; You want to stop violent crime by arming everyone? Let us stop it by tipping the police off when we know of someone we know who has a gun. And because a drug dealer give us a $20.00 we find we vex police hold him. We have criminal boasting that when Police raid them, one phone call and they let them go. We know those criminals and don’t say anything. Remember we never know when it will come on our doorstop. Stop being hypocites; Police, set up an annonymous tip line because our people are scared to talk. It has to start with all of us. That includes the police. We need to weed out those ‘on the take’ in high positions.

The answer to this is to allow the cops to operate like before. The criminals realizes that the government is on its side. The court system is a joke. I am shocked to see that crime has finally come to our shores. Who should be blame, the government. The Pm made statements in an opening ceremony and was blasting the Police, did he commented on crime. We need to understand that the Police hands are tied, unless the government allow them to operate solely. I am not saying that we should tolerate any criminality with the department. Here it is someone complained about some brutality and the entire force is investigating that one Officer. Again it is politically driven. Like the the previous writer said sad to say but yes I agree enjoy the shootings. The PM and the rest of the minister should go and investigate.

  37. Mature Thinker
    October 2, 2010

Dominica does not need miracles to help solve its problems, it needs people who are willing to work hard at our problems and people who actually know what they are doing.

Religon helps to mold positive values and morals in individuals where their actions are determined by the will of good and the teaching of the scriptures (or even to the degree of social acceptance).
Praying will not make our problems disappear, instead we should use it to motivate us to take proactive steps in the right direction, as GOD does not help those who dont help theirself.

The State or Government is resposible for monitoring, oversight, policy making, preparation, enforcement and rehabilitation; in every aspect of society.

Now with that being said, there are good persons and bad persons; the age old battle of good and evil. though everything associated with being bad or teribble is associated with the devil, it might be wise to examine the true source of misconduct in society.

In my opinion, everything relates back to the moral development of individuals in society, the cognitive development of the child ( the way in which a child is taught to think and what he or she percieves to be good or bad) being responsible parents or leaders in society, the socio-development of a country and the overall development of a country. We often compare Dominica’s statistical data to the rest of the region and the world, where in fact we are actually suppose to be comparing the trends in our own data!

We know for example that the Portsmoth community is a developing community, and where development equals to an increase of everything including crime, regardless of factors such as population, etc.

I do agree that I think its about time we have some review of something, whether it may be the constitution, legislation, or whatever. Its impossible to continue to be developing and growing and we are still govern by laws which are out dated and have little effect on our lives today. We should to continuously review and reform our laws like tax, finance, foreign policy etc. All these things are required to aid in the development of the quality of life and aid in the reduction of crime.

There should be a reason for alarm, but not actually fear to walk the streets in our own country. Not when we can venture out to other places like st. thomas, st. martin, trinidad, jamaica, the US & UK, even china……. and the list goes on, and walk on their same street. Their citizens have the same concerns when walking the streets, where the crime and violence rate are even more unimaginable in our thoughts.

It does not have to be a political or religious thing. I think we Dominicans most often mix the state and church in our daily lives, which half of the time, hinders our capacity to make a concise decision on important social matters. (such as an increasing murder rate, lets face it, its now a reality……the whole world knows…..)

We should embrace the challenge to take a proactive role to control the spread of this disease and and change the trend of thought in our youth. We should not let the fear to embrace the situation overwelm us and result in total destruction of our future generations.

  38. Hell
    October 2, 2010

@cookie: Cookie, you are so right. “The police need to have regular stop and search. That way they can help clean up weapons from the streets.” This,,,my dear, is a law enforcement NO-BRAINER! I think they are caught with their pands down and police scared.

I can’t believe it, it’s unbelievable that there has been no sweep, no spot checks that citizens know of to this date. There needs to be random stops like they do when they hear there’s a lot of maryjuana around.

Young men are walking freely with gun and knife like there’s no crisis. Police even still passing and hailing them up like is business as usual, whilst young men have, by their attitudes, declared war on the populace and killing our people. The biggest crime crisis in Dominica’s history and the police are still in station safely cooking braff and scr*wing young chicks, like nothing happening around them. Unbelievable I tell you!

He called to tell me he’d been online and had seen the news and they did not think it was a good idea to come. My heart sank because I know for every criminal on my homeland there are thousands of law abiding citizens…. Where did we go so wrong?

Unlike most people, i believe it is our parenting and homes that have gone wrong. Not the prime minister, not the police, not the magistrates, not the lawyers. It is our parents and our homes that nurture these criminals, our schools educate them and our society gives them the opportunity to excel.

Is it he who send the brother and sisters to kill their brother in Soufriere. Was it he who told the young guy to kill the man on the bridge in Glanvillia. What it the Prime Minster who told the boy to stab the other in PIchelin? What is the Prime mInister who tell the the person to do the shooting in Glanvillia and Lagoon. Why everything has to be about the Prime Minister.
You all writers need to stop the bashing on someone who has no business connected to the crime and try to address the real issues. Some of you all may not even know the Prime Minister personally and do not like the Prime Minister for what ever reason but goes by what you all read and hear whithout any merit or substance. Be it you are a Lobourites,UWP,Freedomite or what ever party you may support leave polictics out of murder.
Let us clean our back yard first and leave the Prime MInister alone.
You can respond I really don’t care.

So why don’t they hold those suckers and show them what is bad

Tie 6 pieces electric wire together.arms length.

Put those suckers naked and hit them 6 shots. after the first shot they will not be able to bawl anymore.

After that dip them in bodda ma jack peppers.then throw them in the sea

Lastly take them out and tie their feet and hands and stretch them out on one of those big stones(back arch) in the HOT SUN.

If thery survive that you will see how they will become repectable gentlemen in the community. They would not know what you calling CRIME

I am sorry to say! but we gonna have to start arming our citizens so they will be able to defend themselves against them gun totting weasels on this island. This is ridiculous what is going on in Da right now.
Please Mr attorney General, will you revise the law and give these criminals the maximum sentence they deserve?
Because if you don’t , pretty soon Dominica will become the most lawless nation in the Caribbean.
Since they like using guns so much, why don’t they volunteer to serve in some army overseas
instead of using it on each other?

It’s time for the law to ask assistance from Scotland Yard in the UK. These shootings are not simple, Thats the work of the most prominent people in Dominica who do not wish to see the country prosper. We all will be surprised when the culprit is caught. All the shootings in a country is centered around a high powered gun.

I empathise with the police officers, I am sure they did not prepare for that spate of crime in our country. I am getting very much afraid of what image is being portrayed of Dominica given the fragility of our tourism industry. My brothers and sisters there is not much going for Dominica at this time, please, please for God sake stop the crime. Someone said its not like Jamaica because it happens every day in JA but we do not have a population like JA and so if you calculate the ratio of crime in DA we are worse off the Jamaica.
Dominicans do some deep soul searching. It’s bad enough.
