UPDATE: Police investigate robbery at McMillan Gas Station

One of the men in police custody hides his face as he taken out of the gas station

Police this morning were on scene at the McMillan Gas Station in Roseau as they investigate a robbery which took place at the establishment last week.

Reports suggest that three persons in police custody are assisting them in the investigation.

The three, in handcuffs, were taken to the gas station.

A curious crowd gathered while the police, with evidence markers, took photos of the various sections of the area in the vicinity and inside the gas station.

However the crowd subsided after the men were taken away by the police.

The McMillan Gas Station was robbed at gunpoint last Thursday in a series of robberies that have plagued the nation recently.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has said the police are on top of the matter.

Hi, I want to say congratulations to the Police Department for apprehending the perpetrators of this robbery. I hope they put together a solid case where they can get a conviction in court because making an arrest do not guarantee a conviction. It is very troubling to see young men who are attending college would put themselves in such a situation. If they are convicted they should serve their time but we must provide some type of rehabilitation and skill to them . I came to Dominica for the Fest with five of my former co-workers and we felt safe and was very pleased with the Police presence we observed. (Love from NY)

      October 26, 2011

you can’t say much cuz you might have benefited from their illegal activities..i hope the pm was serious when he spoke about the 15 year sentence for gun related crimes..this is a perfect case to set an example if those three are indeed the culprits..20 years sounds fine to me.

When the robbery took place, most persons who commented bashed the Police for not doing their work. While the matter is still under investigation, those persons should now be acknowledging the Police for doing their work. The Police have 3 persons in custody assisting them. I will say congrats to the Police.

It’s too early to congratulate the police. When we have a successful prosecution then we can praise the police. Suppose the three men who they now have in custody are released by the Police for lack of evidence?

      • L'Esprit Poule
        October 26, 2011

On the contrary, I think we should congratulate the police on accomplishing a vital first step…apprehending the suspects (the judicial process will determine their guilt/innocence). Forensics is a process that should not be rushed. We should commend the process, rather than sit on the fence as non-contributing naysayers waiting for police to slip in order to start crowing.

Be patient Grassopper…all in due time.

You right and if their parents are of consecuence or politically linked you will hear chief Carrette stormering with lack of evidence.. All these are taken in consideration when crimes are comitted nowadays in Dominica.
