Police PRO, Inspector John Carbon, has told DNO that law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the death of a Wesley woman.
He said a report on the death of the 35-year-old woman, who has been living in Roseau, was made on Monday morning.
A source close to the matter told DNO that the woman died at the Princess Margaret Hospital on Sunday morning after she was severely beaten by her boyfriend and father of her children on Carnival Tuesday.
The source said she suffered serious injuries to her face and made several visit to the hospital but was sent home after being treated.
She was finally admitted on Saturday after swelling to her face continued and she died on Sunday.
It is alleged that her boyfriend, who DNO understands is from Woodfordhill, has since fled to St. Lucia.
DNO is following this story and will publish information as it becomes available.

Million dollar question when she initially went to the hospital did she disclose in detailed the reasoning for her injuries. If yes then I would agree that the police should have stepped up from there. If not then she is the only one responsible for her murderer on the run

This is so sad! My sincere condolences to her family and all her loved ones who are grieving at this time. It is also sad that after suffering such a severe beating at the hands of the man who supposedly loved her she didn’t think to call the police and have him arrested for such a brutal act. I can never understand how a man can hurt the woman that he claims to love in such horrific ways and even more so why the woman stays and suffer through such abuse. It must be some deep psychological problems that both are suffering from and unfortunately it is so common in our society. There should be a law to protect those who afraid to stand up for themselves. Once a woman turns up at a medical facility for treatment and it is determined that her injuries were caused from domestic violence then the medical personnel should be required to report the matter to the police. May her soul RIP.

It is so sad that she died. She probably had internal injuries. Was she not given a thorough examination? Was she given tetanus shots or some sort of pill which could have decreased the swelling and prevent gangrene from setting in. Was she properly taken care of at the hospital? Was there any need for her to die? Poor woman.

Everyone is blaming the guy and the hospital. It’s sad she had to die this way but women need to wake the hell up and get out of a relationship where domestic violence is involved. We all are saying that the hospital n police failed her but you all think that the young lady failed herself ? I strongly believe that she had been beaten once if not more than once and did she ever report the beating to someone or the police? Wasn’t there any immediate family she could talk to her mom at least or brother because I know brothers don’t like their sisters being beaten by men they stand up for their sisters.

If a nurse gives a pt. attitude she’s not fit to be a nurse or find another job. All nurses should be supervised by a head nurse. I work in a hospital the patients come first. You must show empathy not attitude.

I would not blame the hospital for the woman’s death. If this woman was severely beaten there is no way a hospital would send her home. If someone is bleeding from injury a hospital has to keep this person for observation, if incase these signs were neglected then they are really at fault. The boyfriend is reponsible of this woman’s death.I blame the hospital for not calling the police when the woman came for treatment.
There is such a thing as closed head injury, meaning there is no bleeding or open wound. These are the worst head injury because the swelling has no where to go but in the brain. The only complain might be headache/ dizziness/ or even changes in mental status. Any health care provider should know that! I know Da have x-ray. even CT. She should not have left the hospital without one off those test.
Thank you Mother!!! I have been trying to tell people this until I’m blue in the face and they just don’t get it. I can pretty much guarantee she had bleeding and/or swelling of the brain. I had a severe head injury and split the back of my head open. They would not give me a CT Scan. I know they have a new machine there, but I don’t think it has even been used and I doubt anyone there knows how to use it or to read the results for a brain injury if they did use it. Of course she should not have been beaten, but maybe the hospital could have saved her life if she had been given a scan and admitted to the hospital when she 1st went there. Not sure the hospital is advanced enough to perform the procedure needed if she had internal bleeding or brain swelling. Sigh…so sad.

The PMH must be careful when cases go there. One woman whose blood pressure was almost 500 was told why did she not go to the Health Centre. Another woman who suffered a stroke was treated and sent back home the same night. Fortunately, her family noticed that it was serious and she was immediately taken back to the casualty and she was admitted to the ward. Some health care workers must understand that they are paid by the people to serve and must do it diligently.

If the death is a result of injuries sustained from abuse, why did the authorities wait till death to investigate? Why did the hospital keep sending this victim home? It is a crying shame what we have to undergo before people listen.

It’s high time that domestic violence and abuse against women cease in Dominica. I see no reason why women should continue to subject themselves to these kinds of behavior at the hands of their men (boyfriend, husband or children father). Where are all the female attorneys on the island form an alliance and rally for changes to the laws?
It should be noted for the record, that women are also abusive and we men are reluctant to complaint because we are often viewed as wimp. I condone both forms of violence from both sexes if it’s not working out go seek another partner, because believe me there are still respectable men and women out here.
