Police probe death of St. Joseph man

Police say they have launched an investigation into the death of Emmanuel Shillingford – an adult male of St. Joseph who was found lying face down between two stones at the Macousherie River on Monday.

Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Kenth Mathew reported Tuesday that about 9:45 a.m Monday, a search party which was made up of family members and villagers found Shillingford’s lifeless body.

“He was found about a half mile to the east of the Macousherie public road. There were some abrasions on various parts of his body,” Mathew told DNO.

“Subsequently, about 2:45 pm a doctor at the PMH pronounced him dead. Family members indicated that on the morning of Monday January 16, 2012, Emmanuel went to his garden, located two miles beyond where his body was found and that no one had seen him till his body was found that morning,” Mathew reported.

According to the police, family members said that it was customary that Shillingford would remain on his holdings for three to four days “but on this occasion he had not returned within that time”.

Shillingford’s body is at the PMH mortuary pending a post mortem and coroner’s inquiry into his death.

Meanwhile the police have confirmed that a coroner’s inquiry is expected to be conducted into the death of hairdresser Judith Shillingford who died suddenly on the job.

“At 3 p.m on Friday January 20, 2012, 38 year old hair stylist and manicurist Judith Shillingford of Cornwall Street collapsed suddenly as she worked at her saloon at the Prevo Cinemall,” Police PRO Mathew said.

“She was swiftly taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital and at about 3:20 pm was pronounced dead by a doctor. Her body is secured at the morgue, pending a postmortem examination, the result of which will form part of a possible coroner’s inquiry,” Sergeant Mathew told DNO.

It is sad indeed that sometimes our simple everyday activity can take us away to our maker. Perhaps just using the wrong shoes while she worked creating a blood clot going unnoticed. To all hairdressers out there coming from another hairdresser please seek out comfortable shoes and treat yourself just as well as you treat your customers…I know we need the money but our health is vital for this kind of trade. Let’s look out for one another. Let’s create our own Beauticians salon and take care of each other the works nail care, foot care, body care. It hurts me bad when I hear about this sudden death situations.

R.I.P. Ms Shillingford and all the rest of your family I hope seek out the LORD for comfort it’s trying times.

Today I thought DA had not had murders for a while until I accessed DNO. It appears that evil is still prevailing. It is sad that Emmanuel Shillingford was murdered. I hope that his murderer will be caught.
Sad too that Judith Shillingford died suddenly. I hope the autopsy will reveal the cause of her death.
My heartfelt sympathy to their families. Take heart. God is with you. May their souls rest in peace! Amen!

“It appears that evil is still prevailing”. Evil has exist fromt he very beginning and it will continue until the end- notjust in Dominica but in the global village in which we take residence.

“It is sad that Emmanuel Shillingford was murdered”. No where in the article does it say or imply that he was murdered. Lets wait and see.

It is indeed sad! They are all our people and we need to share both their joys and sorrows.

They’ve not done a post mortem and they are investigating….what are they investigating? Shouldn’t a post mortem be done already…a man found lying by a river with abrasions….or whatever…..

I think Dominica just won’t get out of this 17th century mode.

May God comfort both group of families at this time.
