Police report “marked improvement” in crime fighting

The police high command is reporting a “marked improvement” in its crime fighting strategy for 2011 and is describing the recent spate of robberies as “quick flashes of crime.”

Speaking at a press conference today Acting Superintendent at the Criminal Investigations Department, Ainsworth Irish, said only five murders have been reported on the island so far for the year.

“This is a marked improvement in terms of the police crime prevention measures and the whole community policing effort,” he said.

Irish also stated that incidents of robberies are not on the increase, despite several cases in the past few months. “What you had were some quick flashes of crime,” he pointed out.

Irish said the police department deserves commendation for capturing eight people in relation to criminal activities and four “dangerous” firearms.

Well I hope there is an entrance exam for high school graduates to join the Police Department rather than begin recommended by a Politician or someones Political affiliation. Mr Irish said there were five murders reported to the Police Department but he did not release any numbers for 2010 so we can determine if it represents a reduction in murders. He also said that the Robberies are a “Quick Flash” but what proactive steps the Department is taking to prevent such incidents. We need high visibility patrols and plain clothes Officer in unmarked vehicles to help combat this rash of robberies. We also need crime prevention Officer to show the businesses how to better protect their employees and customers. Mr Irish is head of the CID therefore his unit respond after an incident. The Commissioner is the person to tell us what his Department is doing to address this ” Quick Flash” of robberies.

Well I do not know how Police Officers are chosen in Dominica but I hope there is an entrance exam that is open to high school graduate and not people Political Affiliations. Mr Irish said that only five murders were reported to the Police in 2011 but he did not released any numbers for 2010 so we can compare to determine if it represents a reduction in Homicides. The rash of Robberies are a “Quick Flash” but what proactive steps the Police Department is taking to prevent such incidents. Five murders are five to many so please work harder to protect the citizens. We need more high visibility patrols and plain clothes Officers in unmarked vehicles.

Tell me what does “only five murders have been reported on the island so far for the year” have to do with your “marked improvement” in crime fighting strategy for 2011. Some crimes can be deterred but can the police prevent murders? They are supposed to solve crimes and so far they are doing very poor job.
Very noteworthy is the fire bombing of G.O.N. Emmanuel’s house. Why is it that after almost one year no one has been arrested for the crime? It seems as if the police are selective in crimes
they solve( for example Ganja possession)but are incompetent in solving others.

Good Morning Mr GON EMMANUEL!It’s almost a year since you were almost killed at your home. Politics has destroyed our institutions, so i am not surprised that this matter is stagnated.

it is evident that some people are day dreaming in Dominica and Irish is the lattest one, just a few days ago the Deputy leader of the DLP Ambrose George had his dream of increaSE SUPPORT FOR LABOR PARTY, NOW THIS DAY DREAMER iRISH IS TALKING ABOUT SUCCESS IN CRIM FIGHTING, WHERE IS THE STATISTICAL COMPARISON TO PROVE HIS POINT, IRISH NEEDS TO EXPLAIN TO THE dOMINICA PEOPLE ABOUT THE UNSOLVE CRIMES IN THE COUNTRY, I AM SUGGESTING THAT STATEMENT FROM IRISH IS TO FIND FAVORS WITH THE AUTHORITIES FOR A PENDING PROMOTION, WE ARE NO MORE FOOLS IRISH, PROVE YOUR POINT WITH THE FIGURES

POLICE CAN’T STOP CRIME…THEY CAN ONLY TRY TO SOLVE IT WHEN IT’S ALREADY DONE. THEY STILL RECOVERING GUNS AND MAKING ARREST. HOW ELSE CAN U PLEASE DOMINICANS, MAYBE THEY WANT A POLICE OFFICER TO STAND OUTSIDE EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN DOMINICA HOUSE 24/7 WAITING FOR CRIME TO HAPPEN. STUPESSSSSSSS….

I really do not want to call you a RETARDED so i wont…lol!!!! The police’s job is not to solve crime AFTER it happen…the job of the POLICE IS TO DETER CRIME FROM HAPPENING….

Well done officers I know better than the ignorant people who come and comment on DNO’s post. Job well done for a Police force with no use of forensic. Like I say I do know better, some countries boast how good we are at solving crimes with the little we have and our own people try to bring us down but keep up the good work. Highly commended.

The thing is the police has ZERO strategy in fighting crime. This police force consists largely of a bunch of Labour party operatives who were placed there by Parl Reps. This nonsensical statement is absurd and laughable but then look at who is reporting it.! WHAT DID YOU HAVE TO TELL US ABOUT GON EMMANUEL IRISH?

  17. T
    December 22, 2011

Irish you and your ilks must go and investigate the GON EMMANUEL FIREBOMBING and attempted murder almost a year ago,AND then REPORT TO US. ANYTHING OTHER THAN THAT IS NOT FIT TO READ FROM THE POLICE.When will you all stop insulting us?

    December 22, 2011

When i started to read this,i said to myself well the GON Emmanuel attempted murder and firebombing is going to feature, but here comes this operative peddling the same or worse nonsense than Carrette would. NO wonder this country is so corrupt. A FAILED STATE with no functioning institution.!The policemen need to do the state’s work. THEY ARE TOO POLITICAL!

    December 22, 2011

Irish you should have started this FARCE by telling us if there was a breakthrough in the attempted murder of GON Emmanuel, whose house was firebombed on Christmas Day 2010. Anything short of that deserves a total ridiculing of your puerile and infantile, almost assinine piece of lazy rhetoric.
Many people who blogg here are more intelligent than you, so why do you do that to yourself sir.. ISN’T GON EMMANUEL A HUMAN BEING?

Just because there has been fewer murders is NOT down to the police, its down to people using less drastic measures.

With regards to the spate of robberies, how on earth can they be treated in such a nonchalant manner. Tell the businesses that have been robbed that it was just ‘quick flashes of crime’.

I’m not bashing the police, I know that they have a difficult job to do, but please dont tell us that what we read/see/hear is just fiction.

December 25th. 2010- December 25th. 2011. Almost 1 year since the firebombing of two senior ctizens home, plus the firebombing of a Police Officer who revealed that he is investigating money-laundering. What is the status of the investigation Irish?

Lawyer Emanuel filed 42 charges regarding alledged fraud and other criminal activities against another lawyer Isidore. When will that case be called? Judicial review? When will court proceedings begin? so no case then? Meanwhile, how many Dominicans have been convicted, fined or jailed for the pettiest of crimes?

What about the shooting incident at Convent Prep? The Deputy Chief of Police conducted his investigations submitted his report. what happened to that report? Wasn’t it Irish who conducted another investigation into that same incident? So the Chief is incapable of investigating such incidents? why was his report not considered and follow up action taken as recommended?

So you see my people when those kinds of things happen, we must be sceptical of those blanket statements made.

Criminal Investigation Department still investigating the firebombing nuh, Mr. Irish?
We are waiting for some updates.

When is Seco coming back to Dominica? Didn’t the police high command tell Dominicans that Seco was a person of interest in that heinous firebombing criminal act? How comes he is no longer a person of interest? Marked improvement in crime fighting? Dominicans are not all fools.

Oh police officers, continue to drink rum, play dominoes and talk rubbish and you will see the end result of your irresponsible statements.

The police should be coming out there to condemn the crimes and to affirm that they will apprehend the criminals. This is what any sane responsible official should do.
