Police search for ‘high-powered’ gun in Glanvillia shooting

Police are still to recover what they consider to be a high-powered gun that was used in the shooting of Georges George last week Thursday in Glanvilia, Portsmouth.

Yasmin James, who police spokesman Claude says is in his “very early 20s”, was remanded to prison before a magistrate on Monday on six gun-related charges, three indictable and three summary. He pleaded not guilty to the summary charges but was not required to plea to the indictable ones. He is to return to court in early January.

The charges include shooting with intent, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and possession of ammunition among others.

Meanwhile, his 36-year-old victim has been released from the hospital but is confined to a wheelchair for an undetermined period.

Motive for the shooting was not clear.

During James’ lawyer’s application for bail, the prosecution cautioned the magistrate to the seriousness of the crime and the fact that the weapon has still not been recovered.

The prosecution said the accused was a threat to the witnesses and could look to intimidate them if released.

“The magistrate agreed with this and denied bail,” Weekes said.

The PM in a recent pronouncement stated that his administration was implementing a tougher policy on crime especially GUN related crime, however, these magistrates grant bail to all and sundry, It stands to reason, if you on one hand are going to be stern on crime then you have to start with the courts and those bleeding heart liberal Judges and Magistrates who issue bail even to murderers & drug dealers,to me that seems a big paradox
Why is it that a criminal charged with GUN possesion is even allowed to apply for bail, I beg the question, ARE there no UN Bailable crimes, For these types of crimes, at the time of the arrainment BAIL should not be part of the proceedings, other matters yes but not the question of bail

Any news on the firearm that was held to the head of one of the visitors to the Villas in Savanne Paille? What about that case? Is it in progress? It is alleged that the said firearm which was evidence was given back to the owner. Who did that crazy thing? Any truth in that? Was that gun repossessed and brought back as exhibit or evidence in the case? DNO need to investigate and let the people know.

Finally, it had to take the loss of lives for them to start denying bails. Now Stockfarm is going to be overflowing…This means that they have to hire more people to work there when the ratio becomes too many.
