Police seize over 13 kilos of marijuana in Woodford Hill

Not the actual marijuana seized

The Drug Squad Unit of the Dominica Police Force led an anti-drug operation which resulted in the seizure of over 13,000 grams of cannabis from a motor vehicle.

The seizure took place during a mobile patrol at Woodford Hill on Saturday, June 17th, 2017 when the police searched a motor vehicle with registration number TL662, and found 13,620 grams of the illegal weed.

Police PRO, Inspector Pellam Jno. Baptiste said the occupants of the motor vehicle were both arrested on “suspicion for possession of alleged cannabis weed and possession with intent to supply.”

The motor vehicle was also seized and is now in police custody.

“Investigations are ongoing,” Jno Baptiste remarked.

Our Parents and grand Parents, used this bush to stupefy fish from the waters, so it cannot be good for human to use in any form. Well, now look it, your prayers answered. Too much killings and road accidents in Dominica. Get rid of marijuana.,no Joanna or Marijuana. They were pressured to legalized cigarettes and now the biggest killer.

Id10t, that’s not the bush they used for fish. Marijuana is not half as toxic as the the fish killing weed you smoke that has stupified you. Marijuana is not associated with any accidents nor fatalities on our roads. So much information out there, you seem to be one of those ppl that they hide information from by putting it in written form. U don’t have to smoke it but Read, do a little research.

Some of you are so crude, rude and sarcastic Even though you disagree with his comment, have some respect. Our opinion varies. We are all free to agree or disagree. You must respect the opinion of others. This is maturity and sensible. There is no need to make a comment which you should very well know is not true.
The same could be said to you who made that comment, “Same to you.”

Thousands upon Thousands of cigarette smokers are dying daily of lung cancer, plus those who are being affected by their “secondhand” smoke. Yet, anyone (from a certain age) could walk into a store and purchase cigarettes, and it’s not illegal. The cancer drugs /medication brings trillions of Dollars to the drug companies; Hospitals are expanding exponentially to treat these types and other types of cancers. Do the cigarette manufacturers go to jail for causing all these deaths? Is their smoke illegal? Hell NO! The system pretends to care for the well being of people – BS. Salt is another Killer. Do they go to these Big name Restaurant and ask them to reduce the amount of Sodium in their menu? GIVE ME A BREAK! I don’t smoke (only suck) but why are so many people naive concerning the System??? I’m confused!!!! If they make it law we should obey the law. But please! Most laws with consequences are aimed at a certain people. Find a Job, bro.

They keep at it and will never give up this money-making trade for their personal lifestyle. Whether marijuana is legalized, it will still be illegal to traffic in it without a license.
If it is ever legalized and they are caught with this amount, be it less or more (aside from the allowable amount), they will have to produce proof that they are legitimate growers, buyers and dealers.

Oh it seems you need to smoke a little week, not a whole lot at first. You are currently enjoying the freedom to smoke it in Canada, and not everyone does, yet your jails are not full of Marijuana users like ours. This is shameful and hypocritical.

        “weed?”
Do not make me laugh. You did!   I reside here but not once anyone approached me to purchase it or smoked it in my presence. If they did, the answer would be “NO!”
In fact I do not know anyone personally who smokes that. They are intelligent people who can do without it. They have better things to do with their time. We do not even smoke cigarettes/cigars. Good people, eh?
Those who smoke it have less intelligent brains, if none at all. They are the ones whose brains are frozen. They do not realize what harm they do to themselves and to their future.
People know who to approach. They probably could sense it, even from afar. When they notice you, they can sense who you are and if you would bend to their whims and wiles or not.
Do you know the saying, “God protects us from something worst than death.” That is me!
A few words of another version of Psalm 23: “No harm can befall me, My Comforter near.” Thanks be to God!

You are wrong that the jails in Canada are not filled and/or do not have marijuana users. This is why certain interest groups here want it decriminalized.
For further information, the Prime Minister of Canada wants it legalized by July 1st which is Canada’s 150th Birthday. As a Christian Catholic this is the thanks he is giving to God for giving Canada 150 years and its relatively progressive and peaceful country.
Know that there are pros and cons. I have my qualms about legalizing it. They call it recreational and medicinal marijuana; elevating names. These days they have changed some names to make them sound good and it is OK to take them. Is this not similar to legalizing immorality in the land? Some are for it and others are against it. Time will tell how useful and successful this new legislation will prove to be.
Everyone is answerable to God for their actions and what they will leave behind them, good or bad which will also precede them to eternity.

it has to be suspicion, being found in a vehicle with the drugs does not automatically gives them possession of it, for example both of them could be in the vehicle and have no knowledge of the drugs being there, that’s why they were arrested on suspicion, then after the investigations the appropriate charges will follow.

Is the Gov’t of Dominica waiting for the go ahead from the US of A to be lenient on how NATURES plant is used? it seems that the gov’t is dragging their foot in de criminalizing a plant that history has shown that if used in the proper way can have both HEALTH and ECONOMIC profit to the NATURE ISLAND. While the Dominica gov’t is leaving no stones unturned in marginalizing young AFRICANS domicile on the island, Americans and Canadians are capitalizing on the financial aspect. The most potent HUMAN diminishing drugs are ALCOHOL, TOBACCO and over the counter prescription. Why don’t the GOV’T send a fact finding team to JAMAICA to see what is been done and the products derived from the plant? don’t let the TRAIN pass you by, DA.BOb.

    • Let The Truth Be Known
      June 21, 2017

When it is legalized in Canada, God help us. We will soon find out.
You do know about all the fuss which was made about cigarette/cigar smoking and second-hand smoke. No one can smoke in many areas; not in front of a building. If caught they will be charged as much as $500.00.
I wonder what will happen when marijuana becomes legal. I hope the same applies as cigarette/cigar smoking when marijuana becomes legal.
What I have heard is the Prime Minister has been discussing in Parliament about the amount of money which will be derived and how much each Province will benefit from it. This means how much will Ottawa – The Federal Government give to the Provinces.
I could not believe it. I thought all they think of is how much money they will make when marijuana is legalized. I reiterate, God help us!

      • Anon
        June 22, 2017

That means too Many people will not suffer risk of jail time for just smoking it. Doe dig, the ‘ordinary man’ rule and existing rules that prohibit smoking tobacco in undesignated areas will prevail, but people will not endure misery at the hands of police just for smoking marijuana, it is not a big deal they make it out to be. Race has played and continues to play a big role in this.
The origin of the ban was all based on race, today it’s one of the remaining pillars of racism. People are thrown in jail and prison for smoking marijuana because it was favored by Blacks. People are NOT persecuted for smoking meth and doing pills (mostly Whites) given light sentences, so those drugs are now given the label ‘opiates’ and will now be federally funded as an “optiod epidemic”; the Very white thing to do. Your pic.

Time to Legalize it. Decriminalized in St.Vincent and that has not even caused an increase in number of users, no more filling their jails with marijuana users and sellers. Many benefits from their action. What is Dominica waiting for. Just plain out legalize marijuana. Period. It calms the violent youth in Guadeloupe of those who would otherwise be using coke. A win win for all. Common Dominica this is rediculous, get with the times. Instead, Use those informants to help you all get an idea of ISIS operators on island, and yes we have seen them in full Taliban attire, broad day light, times are changing to heavy seriousness yet you are after just some marijuana. That’s so backwards and not making us any safer.

  18. June 19, 2017

Marijuana advocates frequently criticize the police for arresting marijuana smokers or dealers and remind us there are worse crimes waiting to be solved.

Nevertheless those who know the harm done by marijuana smoking appreciate the law in Dominica as it stands at this time and the good work being done there by the police.

David Hammond, a professor in the School of Public Health in the University of Waterloo has said *It is a myth that marijuana smoke is less harmful to inhale than tobacco smoke. Marijuana smoke contains many of the same carcinogens as cigarette smoke.*

Doug Ironside, a public health nurse (injury and substance misuse prevention) in Ontario has said the idea that marijuana smoking is not likely to result in dependence is a misconception since marijuana is used as a stress reliever or escape and has the potential to become addictive.

*It can impair reasoning, impair judgment and make school very challenging.

    • June 19, 2017

      Continuation:

Ironside also said *Regular marijuana use impairs brain development in youth since the brain (especially the pre-frontal cortex) continues to grow and mature until one reaches 25 years old.

*Marijuana is also harmful to the lungs, causing many of the same problems that tobacco smoke does. including cough, bronchitis, and heightened cancer risk.* He said *We know from research that increased access leads to increased use.

Those who advocate for the legalization of marijuana either do not know the scientific facts OR they do not care.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

Reverend do you know more than doctors do? Are you a doctor? How can you say that mariguana is bad when there are doctors that went to school for many many years that are agreeing that pure mariguana rids cancer cells and that the plant is also a medicine. Let us know what medical school that you got your degree from. Medical mariguana helps many people suffering with illnesses. Would you rather not to give patients their treatment or would you want to see them suffer. Jesús wouldn’t want his children to suffer. Be Christ like. Amen

The doctors and people who you referenced, when their back grounds were checked, turned out to be BIASED with their views.

Yes, I am calling your number Rev.

Do you know how frustrating it is that Marijuana is illegal and people are not just dying, but SUFFERING under cancer!!

I have watched many die under it and I do not believe it is fair to criminalize a PLANT, that can save these people as opposed to KIMO.

Weed smokers have never shown a shred of head nor throat related cancers.
Weed drinkers have rather healthy lungs and sinuses.
The marijuana oil is a potent fighter against cancer. vitamin B27.

Doctors do not care about people, if they believe their poison (over the counter) is helping.

These chemicals settle in your system and react negatively to all kinds of stimulants.

Healing of the nation is no joke.
