Shane Degallerie granted bail

Murder victim Justin Joseph

Shane Degallerie has been granted bail after being indicted for the 2010 killing of 19-year-old Justin Joseph of Fond Cole.

The High Court ordered bail of $30,000 for Degallerie Tuesday following the end of the preliminary inquiry into the case.

Degallerie must report to the Pointe Michel Police Station three times weekly, he should not communicate with witnesses and must remain home from 7 p.m. to 6: 30 a.m., the court has ordered. Degallarie’s passport has also been confiscated on grounds that he could pose a flight risk.

Degallerie’s case is to surface again in court during the September 2011 criminal assizes in the High Court.

I worked in the court system for all these years, never in the life of me this ever happened . Lack of evidence or not, no bail until completion of the case. When did the laws changed?

  18. June 24, 2011

The release of this guy after such a gruesome murder leaves a hype on young men…..resulting in having no problem to kill…it would be fun for them……..hmmmm………..not good laws…..not good at all…….. my heart goes out to the family of the deceased……

“Degallerie must report to the Pointe Michel Police Station three times weekly, he should not communicate with witnesses and must remain home from 7 p.m. to 6: 30 a.m., the court has ordered.” Given the effectiveness of law enforcement in Dominica, the question is: Who is going to enforce these conditions? I mean, you know DA, with all its nooks and crannies to hide, and the countless bays and inlets for anyone seeking to flee justice to leave the country. Oh, and who needs a passport when Quadda, Marie Galante, St. Martin and Martinique provide so much easy gateways for a would-be refugee?

we need to get educated on the law in our homeland boy because things seems strange at times man.

Is shit like that that make people take the law into their own hands. If it was my son he killed, when I out on the streets he would be be in hiding. I am tired of these nonsense going on the the courts of Dominica! What kind of law or lawyers do we have? Can someone explain?
