Shooting at SilverLake

Shooting35 year-old Nigel Massicott  of Silver Lake was reportedly shot by an unknown person in his left thigh at Silver Lake about 9:30 pm on January 14, 2014 while walking along a track in the area.

A release from Police PRO, Inspector John Carbon, states that Massicott was transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital Accident and Emergency Department, where he was treated and admitted.

The police say they are seeking the assistance of the general public in finding the shooter.

Anyone with information to this crime or any other is asked to call the police HINT LINE at 1800-4468 or CRIME STOPPERS at 1-800-8477.

Meanwhile the police are reporting that Laudrick Alwin Bruno of Woodford Hill has been charged with robbery of the Woodford Hill Cooperative Credit Union which occurred on January 9, 2014. Over $40,000.00 was stolen and about $35,000.00 of this amount was recovered. Another man who was shot by the police during the incident is expected to be charged soon.

Laudrick is expected to appear before a Roseau Magistrate on January 16, 2014.

Give the people some hope jobs or the problem won’t go away, who’s in charge over there, the people broke fustrated wait ,some people wait a life time change never come so if the system won’t help by creating jobs people will create their own,and there is so much jobs need doing to nice up the place, but people have family so they not working for nothing,
And the joke is 4 to 1 you wouldn’t think to look at the contry DA is my home and the system stinks, also health and safety bill should be put in place to protect the people even from their selves ,I live in England but I come to DA as often as I can ,all my family from DA and I got plenty to say to make the place better, from the 80s till now a haven’t seen much change Augast ,September I was in st James guest house and to my surprise a truck filled to the top with rubbish parked out side the motel leaving a terrible stench, where is the law that protects and serve these businesses and tourism ,we had to leave with the smell came flys, that business lost money,if there isn’t a body that serve and protect ,people will create their own and god help us that shooter is a small problem, bigger problems like jobs so people don’t have to rob and a minimum wage that needs to be sorted no slave labour,
St Lucia is beautiful and Martinique don’t know what’s happening to Dominica but some people living like gods .their not ,where is all that money going in who’s pocket, they are responsible …..
you should make them accountable take back DA from those clowns people power

    !!!!!1111 NONE POLITICAL !!!!!!!!!!

    Dear, Commmisioner

As most of us a aware that crime in the world is on increase everywhere but like some nations do to counter the forever involving criminal world, that we might never see peace.

Please Mr Commisioner i suggest that you put a proposal through to request the use of CCTV, 2 man patrols of police officers with a well manned radio communication system not nessaryly armed and lastly a command post with 24 hour CCTV and radio communication operation room.

    • Anon
      January 17, 2014

Not necessarily armed?? are you insane? why would you send any patrol officer without a firearm, what if they meet a robbery in progress, or they are met with life threatening force? No Police officer should patrol without a firearm

While reading the comments I saw many people comment that this Bruno guy is a repeat offender so I did a name search on DNO for his name and was surprised at the number of articles with this young man, always a gun or robbery. It seems in 2012 he was ordered to serve to years in jail in May 2012, so that means he is already out and committing more crimes.

We really need to revise this stupid judicial system of a day and night count as two days, utter rubbish, people going jail for 2 years, spend 2 months on remand so they really spending 12 months less 4 months = 8 months in jail….ridiculous. bring back the hard labour and catoline…let them clan up the country they trying so hard to rubbish.

  9. January 16, 2014

As I have said prior to this event “if the gov’t is not putting their feet down to stop this high increase of crime it will become worse…any one of us can be killed by a lost bullet…It happens all the time in many other countries..so no one is in security..In case this man was the real target the bullet could have bounced somewhere else ,deviate and kill one of you who is happy that he got hurt if you passing close by or a member of your family…never forget that what goes around comes around at the moment that we list expect it..

I feel like the government and police is contributing to the criminal situation in Dominica. Just try going to a police station to report a crime. See how they operate in there. You feel like you in a market place. No structure. You don’t even know who is who. No name tags. No courtesy. They don’t even ask if they can help you. If you don’t speak up, you will stand there forever. What a big laugh! no wonder things are getting out of control.

So, you are saying that poor customer service in a police station causes crimes. Ooooookay den!

      • Anonymous
        January 17, 2014

Obviously, the first thing you must do is have an organized system that can function effectively. If you don’t have that, how can you even begin to investigate criminal activity. If we can’t tackle the small things how will we even start with the big ones. So yes my friend, poor customer service plays a big role in the big picture.

Police in Dominica needs to start taking a stance against crime. Times have changed so things cannot be business as usual. The weapons are obviously getting in. Customs Officers needs to do more searching especially all those personal packages coming from islands like Guadeloupe and the U.S. Those weapons are stuffed between clothing, in speakers, TV’s etc. They need to dig deep. At airports, they need to do more checks on luggage coming in. Lastly, those small pleasure boats coming in especially in the North needs to be checked. More shore patrol is necessary. They need to take a serious stance or else the criminals will…take over and you will not find them.

When will the Police chief make a statement? The continuous transfers and obvious frustrating of the hard working honest Police Officers start proving to him that victimization will hurt Dominica more than the police officers themselves. Promotion is now a favor the labor supporters as payment for their votes and for the news carriers. It is clear that Dominicans see one set of Police at the court, at their homes to investigate matters and a different set who knows nothing about the job being promoted. This completely destroys the morals of the good men.

So what happen Dominica turn into the wild, wild west now. We have way to many Chuck Norris in the country. Where are the police they playing dominios and drinking rum or trying to get every little skirt that is passing by. The next thing you will be hearing the Government not taking control well that is why there is a POLICE FORCE do your job Dominica have way to many guns on the streets for a small nation of just 70,000 people

  21. Simply the Truth
    January 16, 2014

Shooting is becoming a habit in D/ca. People can no longer walk the streets in safety. This kind of situation should not be allowed to recur. Get rid of the guns.
As for the one who was charged with robbery at Woodford Hill Cooperative Credit Union and the other one who will be charged soon, these are serious crimes with weapons. I hope they will not be released on bail.

Justice delayed does not seem to be justice denied in Dominica . This name rings a bell from a previous robbery and he is on bail and since his case has not called after a long while he feels he is free to continue in hie alledged criminal ways , why so much lingering with the court system . recently an elderly man was held with a relatively small quantity of cannabis and the court almost crucified him one day after , so what is preventing these criminals from getting the same harsh treatment and punishment ?

        January 17, 2014

Are you kidding? Unbelievable! His father is a policeman with a high position? Well, well, well. Some children can put their parents and family to shame.
I suspect that he was a disobedient child who would not listen to his parents. Now, this is what he has turned into.
What do you think another government could do, should there be a change? I doubt nothing of consequence. Wait and see.
You and I reside in Canada (if you do). The people (we) should know from experience that a new government hardly ever changes anything. What we get for it is higher taxes and decrease of specifically vital services as also hospital/medical care. This is what we have in Canada. Times are also grim for us.
