Six people, including a woman, have been arrested and charged with the robbery at Jewellers International located inside Fort Young Hotel on May 21,
2016.

Some 45 Rolex watches, valued at over $1.8-million, were allegedly stolen in the heist.

Those arrested are from Kalinago Territory/Roseau, Atkinson, and St. Martin.

Craig Christian, Elrado Ducreay of Bataca and Cynthia Dorsette of Atkinson but living in Roseau, were charged with conspiracy to rob Jewellers International between December 1, 2014 and May 21 2016.

Akim Anton Francis of Atkinson, Jason Dubique and Michael Alexis Magloire, the latter two from St Martin, have been charged with conspiracy to rob as well as  robbery.

Bail hearing is set for June 6.

They have all been remanded in custody and all have legal representation.

The matter is set for October 31 2016.

The robbery took place on Saturday, May 21.

Reports are that three masked men entered the establishment sometime between 9.00 am and 9.15 am and held up the security officer on duty with a gun.

They then robbed the business place, which is housed in the Roseau Bay Front section of Fort Young Hotel, and made good their escape in white HRV vehicle, registration # TL 921.

Court documents show the stolen items have a value of$1,857,762.04.

All of them are to be held responsible for their actions. The teacher should know better. And I am not judging her but am not condoning what she did either they are adults and as such behave they are not kids. There is always a good way and a bad way. And all those who keep saying I know her. Do you really ? Or you know the person she led you to see. Your reputation is not really you are. It is your character that says who you really are. So most of us who keep saying we know people we know their reputation not their character.Don’t be deceived. A lot of people use their rep to deceive people.

I would never expect that from Dorsette. Some people in the comments assumed she got into a mixed into a bad situation, this could be the case or the case might be something else. Only Dorsette knows. However, I wish you the best Dorsette. Whether you feel in your heart that you are innocent, you still have to pay for the mistake that you made like the the 5 other individuals. On another note, I feel that Dominica justice system is not fair but who is me to talk about an issue that have been everlasting throughout the years. Well, let me not stray away. Young adults, listen to your guardians, do what is best for you & for your country because at the end of the day when you do a crime, is Dominica the media is blaming. Young adults, go to school, get a job, always keep positive when times are rough. Young adults, don’t think that’s the only way out, pray about it and God will help you with your tough times. Punished but this is not the end. Do not judge lest you be judged the same way. Pray, pray, pray, encourage, encourage, encourage and correct your children when they are wrong. Be vigilante, the evil one is going around like a roaring Lion seeking whom he may devour. It could be anyone of us. Now to submit to the Lordship of our Lord. Be our neighbour’s keeper. Stop wishing bad for our neighbors, children etc. If we cannot whisper a prayer, do not say anything bad.. these are curses. We put a lot of curses on people and it comes back to bite us. Most of all let us love one another as Christ loves us. Note well, we cannot love if we do not have Christ in us. So let us submit and ask for the love that we will love unconditionally even those who have hurt us. People are not our enemy. We have one common enemy and his spirits will inhabit those who are open to use them. Let us seek the LORD to love and help others find him and peace.

I see alot of kudos being given to the police. “impressive”…’congratulations’..bla bla. Why? I mean the Number Plate of the Rental was identified when they drove of, which made the investigation very easy. Is just run the plate, find out who it registered to, if is a rental…find out who rent the vehicle..and start to pick up and interrogate. Simple work that there, no rocket science. Lesson we have to pray for our children and all the young people in our nation. Stop the selfishness because I said all. Stop the judging of those who got themselves in trouble. I am sure those families never expected to hear their son and daughter name I this. I pray for the families of those young people. You have to pray for all because your children’s could influence them to do otherwise what you taught them and we do not know when we will facing the same situation like the parents and family of those young people. Stop all those condoning of wrong doing. It is sad for us especially when we know the individual . It is said, we never know what this person is going through because we have not walked the road. But most importantly, there is an adversary of our souls. We must be aware of his tricks to destroy. Now pray for all. Wake up it could have been your family. Whilst you are busy condemning (yes this wrong. Someone could get killed). look inside, yes they will…

I dont understand all the hooplah on the prices of the watches and how Dominicans cant afford the watches, There are tourists passing by that store who either came on cruiseships or are staying at the hotel who can afford more than one rolex why do you think that the store is not somewhere in the middle of roseau the watches are NOT for ordinary Dominicans. Instead of asking why the owners of the shop choose to sell such expensive items (which are clearly not in mine nor your price bracket) ask why are crimes more frequent and what can be done to curb that problem before it gets out of hand. As for the 6 who got charged i say that was the dumbest thing they could have ever done you cant just disappear of the map with a rolex muchless 45.

Those in authority must exercise their duty responsibly. As a disciplinarian, I would love to be one in authority in Dominica. They would not get away with it.
Furthermore, those attorneys would not say to me, “They are first time offenders and they did not waste the Court’s time” so as to receive leniency. It is high time this is struck out of the book.
Recently, someone and I had a conversation. The person stated a certain D/can attorney who has many clients, is getting rich because she is good at defending them, to be acquitted or a lesser sentence. I responded, one day she will pay for it before God.

We read of it but we do not know what exactly occurred. When we know and how it occurred, then we could pass judgment.
Keep in mind, it takes two. Money must have been obviously involved. Some people – teenagers cannot resist money, being paid. Therefore they will agree to those soirees. They are not innocent people.
We must also place the blame where it belongs, on both sides. Both agreed therefore both are responsible for what occurred.
I was a teenager and no way would I have found myself in such a melee, not even today as an adult. I had the type of parents who disciplined their children. They would not dare disobey them to go out at nights and with married people at that.
People must not be biased. In those days, such big time crimes with masks and guns did not occur in Dominica. Some teenagers of today do not act as teenagers.
It is shocking to know that in Dominica, times and some people as teenagers, have really changed.

These robbers need to get harsh punishment for their crimes. However, I have a reservations about the value of the heist. $1.858 million translates to $ 41283 per watch. Who in Dominica has that kind of money to buy these watches? If any Dominican would buy a Rolex, he/she would travel abroad and return wearing that watch and not pay duty; he/she would not buy this in Dominica at these prices. Which rational businessman would tie up money in a product which has little prospect of selling where there is a very small market, if any? Has anybody considered that there may not have been 45 watches, or if there were 45 watches, these may be fake Rolexes?. With that said, the maximum penalty should be imposed if they are found guilty.

Well, Rolex watches are actually pretty expensive you know; the one ($1.8) million quoted might be in East Caribbean Currency, However in the United States, a cheap one; a single one could start at over fifteen thousand dollars.

Depending on what one can afford, but in a place like Dominica stealing those are a waste of time, unless the thieves does not know the value of money they might sell them for a handful of peanuts.

About three weeks ago some thieves stole a quantity of the most expensive Rolex, in Los Angeles; while they were escaping the police were able to track the thieves due to the watches transmission of a signal: the police followed them; the thieves discovered the watches were transmitting a GPS signal, they threw them out unto a Freeway. Nevertheless, by then the police caught and arrested the crooks.

Carcon, you don’t know how easy it is to buy duty free in Dominica? You buy yourself a ticket for the ferry to the French islands and take it to the store with your identification. You buy your duty free and walk away with it, simple. You don’t even have to make the trip if you don’t want to. You are supposed to hand a copy of your receipt to customs at the port when you leave but who is going to check that? Don’t you think some of those fellers with ready cash wash their money this way too? Dominica easy and nobody complaining because they all benefit from it. The other way is to get someone from the foreign embassy to buy it for you for a fee or a favour. All their purchases are duty free, not even vat. . if you have big money in Dominica you can always get things cheaper. Easy.

Peter note, how Dominica is a bias place: they say there is a law in the country prohibiting the media from releasing the names and photographs of accused until they are convicted of the crime.

So, I wonder how come the names and faces of these people are published, without a conviction.

      Double standards or what?

Even in the child molestation, therm inappropriate behavior even when I quoted one accused to have alleged involve himself and said he was resigning because of the allegations, DNO censored my submission, even if I quote the individual verbatim!

Most jewelry stores have them or a certain amount on display. Imagine if they only had one or a few different ones on display and customers decide to purchase one of them.
The salesperson would have to go inside, wherever they are stored to get it. Consider if a thief poses as a customer what could occur to the salesperson who could be followed. Use your imagination as I did.

Want to take what does not belong to you. Hating and getting jealous … do you know how much the person may be owing by loans, overseas crdditors. What you see is not always what you think it is. You may see one with a house, car or cars but what about the liability… owe the bank or some overseas creditors. The business man lives by hope that one day they will be free from the debt and the profits will shorten the gap and one they the may become self sufficient. Stop hating and be jealus, envious, time to start working from scratch and develop in becoming sucessful. Mind you it is hard work and does not come overnight. There are sacrifices to be made. Less spending on non essential items. Stop getting jealous of persons who are working and trying hard to do something whilst you seat and do nothing.

How many people in Dominica can afford to buy a watch at the cost of forty ($40,000.00) thousand dollars?

    Hence, 1.8/45 = .040 X 1000 = 4.000 in reality equaling $40,000.00 dolars.

Forty thousand: $40,000.00 X 45 = $1, 800,000.00. Any wonder why there are so many violent crimes in the Dominica. A Rolex at that price is a luxury that few people can afford. Perhaps only certain people involve into crime, and politics have that kind of wealth to be able to afford that.

Under normal circumstance most Dominicans can’t buy such unless they steal, or be involved in the illegal practice of selling drugs, because even at a government ministers pay they could not afford that!

Dominicans can’t afford to even sleep at the Fort Young Hotel, much less purchase a watch for $40,000.00 US!!! Those watches were meant for wealthy guests to purchase … not Dominicans. I’ve always said that TV and the Internet are going to destroy Dominica … this is just the beginning. Dominica has never been rich in money … but now everyone is “plugged in” to the bigger picture and they want what they’re seeing, but don’t have the means to acquire it – so stealing is just one way to get what you THINK you want. Not an excuse, to be sure!

Understand firstly that Jewelers International is near the Cruise Ship port, So naturally its mostly for tourists and wealthier high class Dominicans. No one expects a regular Dominican to purchase a Rolex especially when we complain about the economy being tight so much. Where a gold Rolex will start around $10,000 for a two-tone and be in the high $20,000 on up to $50,000 range for full gold buying a Rolex at $40,000 comes to a surprise for most tourists. Bare in mind not every Rolex stolen costs $40.000.00 dollars.
In my opinion it also has nothing to do with insurance and the company being paid back for their loss, but a lot to do with morals and greed and their intentions with voleh-ing 45 Rolex Watches, honestly believe it is useless to Steal in Dominica especially from Big companies.

And all dem people that there talking should remember that when you try to help a “friend” or family you could end up paying for it. And I know that I don’t pray often enough but I’m praying for you my friend. I know (I can only imagine) how hard it is for you right now but I know you’re going to get through it. And it’s going to make you so much stronger. Wonderful work by our Law enforcement agency, Hope those who allegedely committed this brazen Day light crime, if found guilty receives the full weight of the Law, such wonton acts of violence have no place in any society, a sound message should be sent to all involved, ironically, there`s no clearfication weather those from St Martin have a local connection, or not, but it goes to prove how they were able to come together to carryout this crime. Again if found guilty, allow the punishment to fit the crime, and let the force be with them.

There should be NO BAIL for these criminals. LOCK them up and throw the keys, wicked people terrorizing peoples lives and giving DOMINICA a bad name.

He who has no sin cast the first stone! i like to go by “innocent until proven guilty”! Charging people with conspiracy because they are friends and or associates of the “defendants”; forcing people to confess by shoving a gun in the mouth and pushing sticks in theirs ears and threatening to kill them if they don’t agree…no evidence against the defendants…smh…shame on the police force…haven’t they learned anything from killing the man in Portsmouth.
