Soufriere youth to be sentenced for throwing stones in public place

courtNiquan Lewis, 19, of Soufriere, is now on remand at the Stock Farm prison awaiting sentencing on February 19, after he pleaded guilty to throwing missiles in a public place and battery.

The incidents took place on February 7, 2016, in Soufriere.

According to the facts of the matter, at about 12.50 pm, Kim Younnis was walking on the Soufriere public road when he met Lewis.

They both made eye contact however Lewis told Younnis that he should not look at him.

Lewis then proceeded to take two stones, which he pelted at Younnis.

One of the stone struck Younnis on he left hand and he ran away in fear.

He was chased by Lewis, who only retreated when Younnis went to the police station.

In court on Wednesday, Lewis admitted to striking Younnis but said he did so because he was attacked with a knife.

Lewis then went on to give three different versions of the incident, causing the magistrate to ask him, “which one is the correct one?”

Court records show that Lewis, in 2012 as a minor, was before the court for wounding and in 2014 for threats and was placed on probation to keep the peace for one year. He also has been convicted of possession of marijuana.

Additionally, he was slapped with six charges, including assault, battery, threats, throwing missiles and intimidation, following an incident on January 19, 2016.

He pleaded not guilty in that matter which is set to be heard in court on April 26, 2016.

It seems this was an unprovoked attack. Such people are dangerous because it is not known when they will lash out at somebody for no apparent reason.

Lewis is a repeat offender, having been before convicted of violence and other criminal behaviour.

It is note worthy that he was also involved with marijuana. We see this often with young law breakers. The dangers of cannabis are not understood by those who argue for the benign nature of the weed. The fact is that it messes up the mind and can rob users of their better judgment.

Before Lewis is released he should receive a psychiatric evaluation. However, it is only the gospel of Jesus Christ that can change a person from the inside out. He and all like him can receive new birth and inner healing inner healing by believing that Christ by His death on the cross paid the penalty for their sins, and by receiving HIM as their personal Savior :!:

Christ will not only forgive the worst of sinners. He can – and will – deliver and set them free from any and every bondage that holds them captive. This is not “religion”, it is a relationship with God through Jesus Christ!

Is he the only one that is a menace to society. We all have kids and none of us knows about tomorrow. He is not the worst. Many of our well known judges and pastors were once prisoners and gangsters and see where they are today.stop bringing down our young people. Instead pray for them and try to give them positive words.

thats why kids bite of parents ears when they fail to correct them when they need to be, if you love him then you will stand for his correction, jail is also good at times for these young men because they get counseling and learn a trade so they are less fraustrated when they get back in society and have a skill to earn an income so encourage him to get the most of the advantages he has in being jail to become a better person because thats what correction is for
