Suspected drug dealers granted bail

Two suspected drug dealers, who were caught by authorities last week in Grand Bay, were each granted $35,000 bail Tuesday morning.

They are scheduled to appear in the Grand Bay Magistrate Court on September 11

Garvin Francis, 23, and Ian Liverpool, 28, both from Grand Bay, were charged with possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply. The men were allegedly caught with 8,858 grams of marijuana with a street value of $142,000.

Magistrate Evalina Baptiste, who presided over the case, requested  that the men submit their travel documents to authorities and report to the Grand Bay Police Station three times a week.

Both men are being represented by veteran criminal defense lawyer Zena Dyer.

Marijuana is illegal I understand that. Buh it aint got no jobs for young people in grand bay so they have to try their best to help themselves. When the parl rep don’t care about them and give all kinds of negative criticism about the youth what you expect grand bay people to do. You want them always paying a bus fare to go beg the p.m for help. Well I think they rather struggle and hustle for what they need. So to all who talking bad about grand bay give on the government first for the high unemployment rate not only in grand bay buh all over dominica.

There is so much cocaine that comes to DA every week but these mako DA police seem to want to arrest people for marijuana than go after the BIG boys and businessmen that are bringing in major shipments of cocaine into DA weekly. The police must be scared to go the after those big cocaine dealers that bring in tons of cocaine in DA but they rather fine & put people in prison for an herb that has never killed anyone. If any of you live in the US and have cancer, your doctor treating you will likely write you a prescription for medical marijuana for you to smoke to increase your appetite & help you with the pain. Now I wonder if you anti-marijuana folks will tell the doctor, “NO I DONT WANT YOUR MARIJUANA PRESCRIPTION TO HELP ME”…. LOL @ you small minded people who wont take the time to research the MEDICAL BENEFITS of marijuana.

These are no drug dealers. It’s only Marijuana, legal in many places and countries. They deploy all their meager resources going after this thing for the past 40 years and cannot stoop it. THey need to make their resources available to go after THE Drug dealers which is why you only hear of a crack or coke bust once every 4 years. That’s because they are busy percuting after Marijuana.

So they all in de coke ting too. Marijuana has a bigger foot print so they can’t make any money in it because it takes so many bags of that stuff to make any money. But it only takes a hand-full of coke/crack for them to make the big money. So what do the police do? They put all their efforts going after the marijuana and have no men equipment nor money to put towards coke an crack Drug dealers – building big house all over dominica, destroying our Dominican and Caribbean children and young men.

Legalize Marijuana! Percecute the coke instead.

Not good, not good, not good! Dealing in the drug business is very bad and dangerous for the suspects and the youths. I plead to you my fellow countrymen, friends and village people, to think of alternative ways and means to survive the hardship of unemployment that you face. We as a people know that our government has done very little for the votes and support that you gave them. The time has come for all independent minded citizens of Grand Bay to take a stand, encourage the youth to say “NO” to drugs. Then, demand that your Parl Rep enpower the constituency through the establishment of a technical school to teach marketable skills that can enhance the chances of employment. If it takes a revolt to bring meaningfull changes, then be it.
Enough is enough with the drugs that is creating havoc on our image and youths in Grand Bay.
