Police are investigating a deadly case of domestic violence which left one woman dead in the community of Mahaut on Sunday.
Dead is Kewanie Samuel, 27, originally from Marigot, while her boyfriend Meckeith George, 30, is nursing injuries the Princess Margaret Hospital.
According to the official police report, George was transported to the hospital at 6:00 am suffering from laceration to his head. He was treated and admitted.
At about 8:30 am, police discovered the body of Samuel locked in a bathroom with lacerations to her body and a knife stuck to her throat.
The incident is the aftermath of an altercation between the couple who lived together in a downstairs apartment they rent in the village.
Reports are that the two began verbally abusing each other and the argument eventually turned deadly
A neighbour, who lives nearby, said this is not the first time the two have been engaged in altercations.
Reports are that during the altercation a neighbor overhead Samuel vomiting and George telling her not to do anything stupid.
DNO understands that Samuel may have ingested poison but this was not confirmed by the police.
Samuel was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner and a coroner’s inquest will be convened to be followed by a post mortem.
Police officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department are investigating the incident.

It only takes a few minutes for a situation to turn deadly. Thank God I was able to walk out of my home and stop the downward spiral into domestic violence and murder. I might have easily have become either a victim or a perpetrator.
You know the true story? Well woman dead man man in the hospital the rest is to hope that he survive and will tell the circumstances surrounding the matter the police or on judgement day they both will tell
The person who is at fault should acknowledge that killing a human being and leaving a knife stuck in that young woman’s throat is seen as a murderer. The individual could walk away from the situation. This was intentional and wanted to hurt this young woman. The truth must be told. God gave human being life, man did not give us life. Why commit a sinful crime to get rid of the person. Domestic violence must be stopped. Education is required to education man and women on the implication of hurting each other due to their low self-esteem . The government of Dominica must put a stop to violence on women.
This young woman is another mother’s child.

It is sad that she lost her life. What happened on that fateful morning? Consider that she suffered prior to dying and may have asked God forgiveness for her frailties. Let us hope, God had mercy on her soul.

as somebody thats has been on the jury desk,and as per my opinion,i think the two fought, one picked up a knife and a few stabes were inflicted,the one with the knife was overpowered and the second person took the knife,now the one that took the knife in the first place ,after being over powered took a hammer and they continue to fight .both were almost over power and none wanting to back down while they continue to fight . the neighbour heard the man say dont be stupid, i am guessing that was right before she was about to hit him with the hammer while he was on the floor,its at that time he stabbed her.didnt mean to kill her though.theres no poison involved here.she must at that time dragged herself away,shot and locked the door.why they didnt look for the second person that was involved in the fight is a mystery

This story is just too strange to understand: two and half hrs after the boy was transported to the hospital, the girl body was found locked in a bathroom? so didn’t the boy inform whoever that brought him to the hospital the girl was in the house? didn’t the neighbor who heard the argument even think of asking or mentioning that there was a girl involve in the incident? this story is missing something and from the 2 hour and a half gap something is not right.how did he get to the hospital if he was so badly beaten.who called or came to asisst them.were the police alerted about his state if so who was designated the colprite.if the police was alert and it was her why was she not arrested at 6 a.m as well or why was the body taken out at the time.who conviniently closed the door to house which alledgedly had so much going on.seems very convenient to me if he was not the one who did this then there is a third party involved in this cause getting beaten with a hammer to the head and alledged stab wounds coming from her there is no way that he can alert someone on his own.something is not Right here and i think that things should be cleared up remember it is ill to lie about the dead……….people say dead man tlls no tales but we are in 2014 evidence says it all

The neighbor should have immediately telephoned the police incognito. This is what good, concerned neighbors do. They do not ignore such. The police could have been on the scene to witness the goings on and for the truth.

We have no idea what the reasons are for this young couple and what drove them to this situation. They must have cared or each other at one point but, whatever it is, it is sad and the families on both sides have a crisis on their hands and must be trying to deal with the consequences. Both sides are hurting, I am not sure if the couple had children. I pray they did not, children do not need that kind of stress.
There must be some who thought they made a lovely couple. But who knows it would have been a deadly one.

I knew kim for three years now as a neighbour party pal and more and she was a quiet and kind person i also know meckeith to be quiet and a very loving person but something went wrong and this is the saddest way to lose a friend i feel cold from since yesterday i just hope he pulls through but as the book says hell has nothing worse than a woman scorned and i believe she loved him more than herself and she couldnt take any more

The comments from the public are confusing the story as they seem to support suicide, while the headline suggests otherwise. A very sad story this is, whatever the case is. Two young people messed up in this tragedy.

This is sad news. But please don’t rush to judgement. The young lady is gone and can’t give her side of the story. Note- I don’t know any of them. I just hope that the police do a thorough investigation. Look at all evidence. Could the door be locked from outside? Could she cut her throat in that manner? Any evidence of struggle? Any scratch on either victim consistent with story? etc etc. I wish justice prevails.

The Most High in His wisdom decreed had to take place. I hope this issue will put a spin on events because our society is very bias towards men when it comes to domestic violence. Too often it’s the men who are at fault yet there is a lot of domestic violence done to men by WOMEN at an alarming rate. What about suspected murder? This news does not sound too right. Hope the police is looking into murder as well. Once this news is disseminated into the public for consumption, a case like this tends to close without resolution.
if this is not the first time there has been trouble between the couple, there should have been some sort of police intervention from the domestic abuse section to prevent this happening, this is not the first time something like this happened.

A man put a gun to his children’s mom head in front of the children and told them he is going to kill their mom and the police is yet to help this poor woman.smfh.only when it gets to the point that there is a lifeless body do they come with their little yellow tape and play important.

@Jim, unless people have not experienced domestic violence they will not understand what it is. I was in similar situation as you were as a kid. A weekend would not go by without violence at my home and sometimes on weekdays too. There were at least couple times I witnessed my father with a gun going after my mother. At one point he gased the house up with gasoline with everyone inside but what saved us was he could not find matches. As an adult I had the courage to ask my parents why didn’t they get a divorce and moved their separate ways instead of fighting all the time. My mother said it was because of us that she stayed in the relationship. My father used my question against me and said that I hated him and wanted him to go away. What hurts me most is that the entire community knew what was going on and no one intervened. Instead they laughed ,mocked us and said that my mother deserved what she got because she was too copaweyzon.
That’s our behaviour based on ignorance, lack of understanding, knowledge, and education, If as children your father had killed one of you or your mother, what would those ignorant, narrow minder, stupid neighbours say, or feel.
I find it sad that in the 21st century that there is such a lack of education in Dominica about Domestic Abuse, and the lack of training the police have on this, wake up DOMINICA, get with the times.
Jim, that is they type of story you will hear from a lot of women who suffered domestic abuse, they are afraid to go out there and do things alone , especially when they have children so they suffer for the sake of the children, but doesn’t realise the damage it’s doing to the children, Also a lot of them don’t want to be seen as a failure in relationships. so they suffer, and some and up dead.

Domestic violence happens everywhere especially in the USA too.The police tend to not want to really get involved because the man and woman like a pit bull dog will gang up on the police together and attack the police officer that happens in the US a lot.The police in the US usually arrest both parties and let the courts straighten it out.Sad part is the woman if the victim or the man refuses to press charges but the police usually do they now have that option.
