Police are investigating a case of suspected suicide which occurred on Sunday in the village of Wesley.
According to police PRO Inspector John Carbon, investigations are being carried out into the circumstances surrounding the death of 25-year-old Jamil Bruno of that community.
In a press release, Carbon said Bruno was found hanging from a rope by his neck in his dining room at Wesley about 12 noon May 11, 2014. According to Carbon, the body was examined at the scene and pronounced dead by the district medical officer.
He said a coroner’s inquest was held and the body was transported to the North Eastern Funeral Home pending a post mortem.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Gifford Cochrane of Massacre is now a patient at the Princess Margaret Hospital nursing a gunshot wound to his abdomen after a weekend shooting incident.
According to the police PRO, Cochrane was shot at about 8:30 pm on May 9, 2014 at PottersVille. He was standing on the roadside in the company of another young man when they were approached by two masked men. They were searched and in the process Cochrane was shot, Carbon stated. The wounded man was then transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he is said to be in stable condition.
Investigations are continuing, Carbon stated.

Why we always wait untill something goes wrong, then we start talking. I find it hard to believe a young man would take his life and no body saw it coming.
Where have you been living all these years? All over the world people commit suicide and does not always show tell tale signs. Very few do

The kid had some sort of chemical imbalances which went untreated; as a result it caused him to take his life. There are lots of people who appears normal; however in reality they struggle everyday to maintain their sanity. An older man than him; and I believe related to him, owned a grocery shop: if I am not mistaken right where he hung himself, also committed suicide about four, or more years ago; he drank insecticide. Now I had a cousin right there in Wesley, he started life as an School teacher, great athlete, he won ever track and field events in which he participated.
He later became a Methodist Minister, he worked for many years in the Cayman islands, he returned to Dominica, and served as Superintendent of the Methodist Church; My late cousin earned an PhD from a university in England, less than three years ago right there in Wesley, after he retired from the ministry in his golden years; he also drank insecticide, taking his own life.
Problem is way back when we were kids, though he was about five years or so, older than me. I discovered something strange about him. One day we went to the river to swim, I could not swim at the time; he was a master at swimming, he tried to influence me to jump into the deepest part of the basin in the river, I hesitated, and told him I was unable to swim. The next thing I know when I looked away from the guy, the man pushed me into the river. I almost drown, as I struggled in the water my cousin stood on the banks of the river very amused, laughing his head off, as if nothing transpired; I had to learn to swim immediately; paddled in the dog swim fashion out of the deep.
When I got out of the water, breathless, and frightened; I said to him, man you could have drown me; he simply said “oh no, I would not let drown. There are other detrimental situations he placed me into which to him was normal, but now after all these years we found out he also lived with a chemical imbalance which caused him to commit suicide. There are lots of mentally ill people in Dominica whom because of the fear of been stigmatized live with mental issues without going to visit with a psychiatrist.
When treated, the mentally ill person can indeed live a more or less normal life, and function normally. I’ll say this: the smartest among us usually have some form of mental issues, some of us are brilliant, and have just that little bit of (crazy blood in we body) oui!

Anyway there is no such thing as crazy blood in a person, Nevertheless, some people do have a problem with chemical imbalance in the brain; no need for me to go into that and explain how that works medically; except to say if the imbalances are going to have a serious effect on a person it will surface somewhere around eighteen (18)years old, if it comes along when someone is in thirties and older, that could mean psychological issues brought on by life stressors.

A suicide does not indicate a heavenly journey in any form – you have to be going through hell – otherwise no reason to take your life. And by the way, no such place as heaven or hell, it’s a state of mind and condition that YOU create for YOURSELF or others create for YOU! Then they make you pay with offerings of your hard earned money in order to enter heaven. And then the need to ask yourself this question should arise: Why am I paying ($$$) to enter heaven when Jesus, based on the Christian bible, has already paid for my sins with his blood? If that statement holds any kind of fortification, significance or truth, the I don’t have to do anything what so ever to enter through those pearly gates!

Please accept my sympathy. My heart goes out to you and your family. I visualize how sad it is for you. It should also be sad for D/cans and anyone who heard what occurred to him. He was a D/can, a life. We pray that God forgave him, if he in fact did this to himself.
Our Lord taught us, “Do not judge and vengeance is his.” This is the manner in which we must look at this situation.
Here is another story which I heard of when I resided in D/ca. I thought it occurred in D/ca but since then I have heard it more than once and also on the U.S. Catholic Radio. I feel that it may have occurred somewhere in Europe in the ancient days.
A lady went to confession and she sobbed to the Priest that her husband committed suicide by drowning. He jumped from a bridge into the water and she feared his soul went to Hell.
The holy and wise Priest said to her, “Between the bridge and the water there was time for him to ask God forgiveness. ” Then he told her, “Your husband’s soul is in Purgatory.”
Consider this. Her husband did not die immediately. The same could apply to your brother, your friend. After he performed the act, he could have regretted it and asked God forgiveness. Such a soul could be saved and is in Purgatory.
We know the compassion and mercy of God. God knows what caused him to do such a thing; what drove him to do so. In any case, did he really take his life? Do we know that? Did anyone see him?
Give this a good thought. Pray to God. As He is the Judge, He alone enlightens the mind and opens the mind. Do not doubt the compassion and mercy of God. He knows what we are up against in this world. Some people appear happy. They and God alone know if they are truly happy and what they are going through. It was no different with your relative.
This is why we Catholics pray for the “departed souls”. It does not matter whom. We tend to judge but it is not our place to judge the person, the soul. We are not God. We leave it up to God to do the judging.
The future is filled with surprises. So is eternity. Therefore, by all means, pray for his soul and say an Eternal rest for him. Never cease doing that. In the eyes of God, prayers are never wasted.

I am a Catholic Christian, thanks be to God. We Catholics know better which is controversial with those who do not believe what we believe according to our “religious teachings” as also approved by Our Lord Jesus Christ.
The story goes that in the ancient days many people went to Hell for one mortal sin. Our Lord approached his Father, our Almighty Father and said He died for us and many people are condemned to Hell. To make this brief, this was when Our Almighty Father created Purgatory that, “souls whom He forgave” will make atonement in Purgatory.
It is too bad that those who are not of the Catholic faith do not believe this and do not believe in Purgatory. Well, this is what Our Lord said to an African visionary which I have on tape: “Even though they do not believe in Purgatory, they will still have to go there” and that is those whom He forgave.
As I always state, when we die all will be revealed to us, the believers and non-believers. St. Paul said: “We are walking by faith not by sight. One day we will be walking by sight.”
Therefore, believe in Purgatory that souls which are not bad enough for Hell and not pure enough for Heaven will make atonement/reparation in Purgatory. Believe me, there is a lot to inform you on this matter.
The word Purgatory is in the dictionary, etc., it was not made up by the Catholic Church. Our Almighty Father created it because of His Blessed Son’s Passion and Death for us.
Recall in the ancient days of the Old Testament how God would punish sinners. He did not hesitate to do so. Today, He does not immediately punish (or most of the time) all because of Our Lord Jesus Christ. If only I could convince you.
Nevertheless, have hope. Who knows? Your relative and/or friend might be saved and his soul is in Purgatory.
God weighs the life and if the good outweigh the bad, the soul will go first to Purgatory. Think, if Purgatory did not exist, how many religious people of all would enter Heaven? The live of people and what they say and do will project if they are godly people.
I wish those who denounce Purgatory would pray to God and ask him to reveal this to them instead of denouncing it. If they do in this life, one day they will surely find out. Mark my words. As for me, it is consoling to me. Are there any perfect people on this earth? How many have you seen and/or heard of?

This is the most idiotic thing thing I’ve read in a loooong time. There may be many reasons why someone chooses to take their own life. Most common is depression, and God know that there is no resources in Dominica to handle these situation. Think before you speak, so many of our young men and women can’t find jobs and have to much damn time in their hands which leads to them seeking our ways to past their time such as theft and drug use. So broaden your mind to other reason why this may have happen.
