Tarish Pit man fined for beating ex lover

High Court fineA Tarish Pit man has gotten himself in trouble with the law after he was charged for beating his ex girlfriend and throwing missiles.

Kenrick Lucien pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared before at a Roseau Magistrate last Friday.

According to court documents, the defendant met his ex girlfriend at the home of her grandmother on September 1 and demanded she return items he brought for their daughter in Gaudeloupe.

Lucien then threatened “to burst” the head of his ex girlfriend’s brother if he got involved.

The brother stepped out of the house holding a knife in one hand and a cutlass in the other.

Lucien threw a stone at him but missed.

The defendant then turned to the complainant’s mother and told her that her daughter should return his charger to him.

The complainant was standing nearby with their baby and Lucien attempted to grab the child from her.

An argument developed and he struck the ex girlfriend behind the head.

A report was made to the Roseau Police Station.

On September 3, police located Lucien at Tarish Pit.

“Officer, I didn’t threaten her directly. I told her give me back the things I bought for my child before her boyfriend get involved and I have to fly his neck,” he told the police. “I didn’t send stones behind her, it was after her brother because he had a knife and cutlass in his hands.”

The defendant was arrested and transported to the Police Headquarters.

He was cautioned and he responded, “Officer I have nothing to say. I will say what I have to say in court.”

Magistrate Candia Carrette-George cautioned Lucien against throwing stones and beating women.

“You can send a stone and it can kill someone,” she said. “Do not raise your hands on women! Women should be loved and cherished! She have found someone else, she have moved on, so leave her alone!”

A restraining order was placed against Lucien but the magistrate warned the complainant that she should not prevent him from seeing his child.

“Don’t deny him from seeing his child. Even though both of you don’t speak, find a way so he can see his child,” she stated.

On the charge of throwing missiles Lucien was fined $1,000 to be paid by October 31,2014, or in default of payment sent to jail for three months.

He was also ordered to pay another $1,000 for battery by December 31, 2014 or in default of payment spends three months in jail.

Mr. Kenrick! you were very unlucky here, just a little knock to advised the woman to have a bit of decency and respect for herself. Having a child for a man and another strange man to bring up that child who does not belong to him, another burden for society about child abuse.

Dominica needs a family court who is going to follow up on these young people. The welfare department should take this case up. Young man control your temper for your sake and your child. You bought some stuff for your child it belongs to the child. If you love your child make the mother happy and leave her alone.

The judge will not know the right thing to do to determine visitation, they blame it on the law, they claim their hands are tied by the law, the same way they sentence and charge people for a bit of marijuana and blame ‘the law’ no matter how much allowance in it for descretion.

Look at the trouble this man found himself in and also has to pay that amount in fines or prison.
Something must have gone radically wrong with his relationship with the woman. If he had treated her with dignity and respect she would not leave him for another man. So now, he has become a scorned, jealous lover, ready to kill her and her relatives. I hope he never takes out his anger on the baby.
He lied to the magistrate. Her brother did nothing to him and he sent a stone at him. What if the stone had struck him and injured him, even killed him? This man has an anger problem.
A man as he, due to his bad temper should never be alone in the presence of the baby. Until he can prove that he will not exercise this bad temper, he should be denied custody; only visiting rights but with supervision. I hope the authorities will counsel his ex-girlfriend accordingly.

Our laws need to be updated and punishment for such behavior be made more stringent. Ladies and gentlemen today our courts are charging women beaters as if it’s a regular charge. There were two situations that were not addressed. First the child was in danger of being either killed or worse paralyzed by this mans actions and secondly the charge of domestic violence against the ex- lover. Did the court address that? When are we as a people going to demand harsher punishment for domestic violence and now child endangerment? How many more of our young ladies/ mothers, sisters, nieces, aunts , cousins and daughters have to die before something is done? Today it is a knock behind the head, what will it be tomorrow? A burial? A maiming? A family mourning their loss? What about a nation of hypocrites extending condolences after our failure to act.?

The court left the visitation issues for the mother of the child to take care of??? Smfh”. This is leaving the door open for that “Boy” to take matters in his own hands and the out come might be much worst. Only in Dummynica. Lord help us!!!
