Tattoo shop burglarized

The tattoo shop
The tattoo shop

When Arpherly Jose Sandy received a phone call at 11:00 pm on Wednesday, from a home owner living next to his business place in Roseau, what he found when he responded to that call, was totally unexpected.

Thieves had broken into the establishment.

He is now facing a loss of $20,000 in stolen electronics and jewellery.

Sandy, who owns Native Body Arts on Independence Street in Roseau, said he was sleeping when he received the call from the home owner who lives next to his Tattoo shop.

He said he was told that there was some noise coming from his business place and that the music speakers were humming. “He told me the noise was preventing him from sleeping,” he told DNO.

Sandy said he left home to investigate what was going on. “When I reach there I seeing my door open,” he related. “I seeing all my glass cases where the rings are open, as I come further in there I looked and saw my computer missing. I look again and I see everything … and I checking what?”

jewelryHe said he left for the Police Headquarters to make a report “The police came there, they look at it took fingerprints and whatever they did,” he said.

Sandy said he is very distressed and is unable to work.

He said the thieves took an apple laptop costing about US$1,000, a Compressor kit for over US$400 including port fees.

“I have another set of Jewelry which most times when I buy is by package for about US$99 and about 4-5 packages missing so far,” he said.

Sandy said the thieves did not touch any of his tattoo equipment. Everything on the tattoo vibes is there,” he said. “So basically is taking something to just sell quick.”

He mentioned that he was also willing to pay a reward to retrieve his laptop since all his work is made from it.

The police have confirmed a report was made to them and they are investigating the matter.

DNO most dominicans don’t speck english they speck dominican, thus certain things that they say you should just not repeat not quote. Afterall people! Half of the things this young man said that you quoted I didn’t understand.

Next time just give the story minus the interview.

You have a point here, $$$$. The media too frequently extensively report peoples’direct speech which is often spoken in poor English. All the media houses are gulity of this, both private and state-owned organizations. I do not know if it is laziness or incompetence to put together a story. Direct quotes can be used in a news item, but the tendency to present the bulk of the story in quotations (words of the speaker or interviewee) is not good journalism. This is made worse when the words spoken are not properly expressed. The standard of the writing and speaking of the English language, which is already low in Dominica, cannot be improved if the media houses are failing to observe basic standards.

Dominica have too much crooks. You don’t know who to trust. It could be his own family or friend who envy him. The way the whole world and especially Dominica going, everyone have to watch their backs and be suspicious of every one. As the Bible says “trust no one”. Look at everyone with one eyes open, and one eyes close.

Desperate times are here so we have to take desperate measures especially running a business.
Some people don’t want to work, and the person who works very hard, they envy them, and even want to take their life. Be alert, hope for the best, but expect the worst. Be more attentive in what ever we do and if you see something, say something

Sorry you lost your treasures. I hope the thief is caught. Dominicans should not purchase electronic devices from individuals unless they are certain they are the owners. Make them produce a receipt for them prior to agreeing to purchase them. If caught with stolen goods they could be arrested.
Is there any way that your laptop could be traced if someone tries to use it as a cellular, blackberry, etc.?

This is no excuse for stealing and bad enough breaking and entering the owner’s business. Now he is not able to continue his work and will obviously lose funds. You should have empathy for him.
Have you considered that when businesses are not able to operate, the economy suffers? How about if he has employees? They too will suffer for loss of income.

      June 21, 2013

It is lazy don’t care and ignorant people that make a country poor. A country does not JUST become rich. People go to school to gain knowledge and skills to earn a living. They do not have to depend on people to always give them a job. If I learn to bake, I should bake. If I learn to cook, I cook. If I learn to teach, I teach. And so on. If however, I learn to do nothing; I steal when I want something. Just some food for thought.

    June 20, 2013

Another case where maybe security cameras would have save the day, when will we learn? Dominicans wake up the days of sleeping at the wheels are long gone. From the eyes of a police officer You have to think like a thief to catch a thief. Think of it maybe he would have spent approx.. $1000.00 to installed a security system, that would have paid for it self. Win, loose, or draw, we have to learn, its the real World and we have to adjust to the changes one way or the other. Wake up! wake up! my people.

Some business people find too it expensive to purchase a very good safe and surveillance cameras and therefore go without these items. But that is being penny wise and pound foolish, especially in this day and age and no police patrol in the night.
