Thirty-nine new police officers have now joined the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force.
They graduated at a ceremony held and the Windsor Park Sports Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The new officers comprise of 31 men and 8 women.
Minister of Justice, Immigration and National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore called on them to serve Dominica with passion.
“You must wake up every day with the passion and commitment to serve your country, without favour, affection, malice or ill will,” he said.
He told them that they have the authority that ordinary citizen does not have, “therefore you are obligated to carry out your function within the spirit and ambit of the law.”
He pointed out further that after the graduation ceremony, each will be given various assignments.
“I call on you, therefore, to put what you have learnt into good use, try to make a difference, do not listen to negative talks of others who have been there before you because they have made slackness their mantle,” Blackmoore noted.
He went on to say that the demand from the public can be easily met by officers going out to their sections at various police stations and seriously taking the mandate of “preventing crime, safeguarding life and property, and bringing those who violate our laws to justice.”
Blackmoore stated that the government of Dominica will continue to provide the police force with all the support needed.
“We are continuing to improve accommodation to police officers,” he stated, adding that rehabilitation works on barracks at Morne Bruce will commence at the end of this month to the tune of $400,000.
Meantime, Attorney General Levi Peter, who represented Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit at the function, told the new police officers that it is their responsibility to be firm but fair in the execution of their duties.
“It is not required of you to simply go out to charge every person you can for whatever trivial infraction may have occurred,” he said. “You are required, of course, to use your common sense, to use your discretion but at the end of the day to be firm to ensure that laws of the land are implemented, to ensure that the society is protected, but to do so with firmness …”
Peter advised the graduates to identify a mentor within the police profession to emulate.
“If you do so I am sure that your future will be bright,” he said.
39 = 333 – check your numerology calculator. Something is afoot here!
Don’t worry. There will be more joining to keep us in check. Nine and three are notorious numbers of the illuminati. So they give the game away when they declare the number ’39’.
Ask any Free Mason and they will tell you what the number means.
Congratulations!
Fine looking men and women in uniform representing the cause of justice to serve and protect.
Everybody does a better job when they know they are appreciated. It won’t cost you anything next time you encounter a police officer just to let him or her know you are grateful for the work they do. Not long ago we heard of a policeman who died from a mortal injury received in the line of duty. These brave men and women lay their lives on the line for their communities.
Blessings!
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.
congratulation to the best student
Who is the best student?
Congratulations to the newly graduates. I wish you the very best in your chosen field. I just love to see our men and women in uniform. Do your uniform proud; my school principal used to tell us.
Congratulations they struggle is over a new battle has begun..all the best guys
More boys who didn’t to bag by astaphans and wentfor police? lol
Hello and good evening my people. First I want to congratulate all the new Officers and I hope they will go out and serve our people in a professional manner every time. Welcome to my extended law enforcement family,Congratulations again.
Minister of Justice, Immigration and National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore called on them to serve Dominica with passion.
“You must wake up every day with the passion and commitment to serve your country, without favour, affection, malice or ill will,” he said.
He told them that they have the authority that ordinary citizen does not have, “therefore you are obligated to carry out your function within the spirit and ambit of the law.” Mr Blackmoore this advice would do you well,, Are you not obligated to carry out your function within the spirit and ambit of the law.” why aren”t you?
And you, as a national, his advice would also do you well. “Are you not obligated to carry out your function (as a national) within the spirit and ambit of the law?” Why aren”t you?
we must comment on the amount of nurses that is leaving every year
jess now it will have more police that civilians,, skerrit smelling something man
I do not think so. However, in view of your comment, I speculate, note the goings-on disobedience, rebelliousness, crimes and other matters. Dominica needs a certain amount of contingency of police officers. Better to be prepared now for the inevitable.
Note that Guadeloupe has insufficient police officers to quell and hopefully eradicate the same, as previously mentioned that it was necessary to request, from their Mother Country, additional police officers. May other islands take note.
Unfortunately D/ca is independent as some the other islands, therefore, they stand on their own to recruit their ample police officers, should they be needed.
Keep in mind some will be utilized as Mediators throughout the island.
Dominica is a third world country , thus curruption in government, police and justice system is inevitable. Stop and think for a moment these gentlemen risk there lives to protect our country for less than $500 US dollars a month.
But wait…
I thought is de ja vu wii. As if the other day i open dno and i see that eh.. that more police again???? Hmmm seems to me d.a really doe have work. Dem man just joining the force to secure a job. I bet you most of them seeing crime and wont stop it.. they doe care, they just need their money. Just like them so call nurses they have today
This comment is inappropriate, misleading, and totally uncalled for.
You have insulted, slandered, and offended two of the world’s most noble professions. Most of these individuals are dedicated, hard working, and contributing people.
Your statements show an ignorance of both careers and the work they do.
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.
You are really the backward one. Your little negative narrow mind is working overtime. Be careful it does not crash.
If they are in need of a job, why not? They were trained. If they did not complete the training, they would not have been chosen. There must be a necessity for additional police officers.
What do you know anyway? Whatever they are paid is their business; not yours. Open your little mind so that it becomes broadminded.
They will be serving their country. What have you done in this respect and plan to do for your country?
Is that the only available jobs for the young people??/
There may be a lack of good jobs in Dominica.
However this is not the main reason most recruits are drawn into the police service. It takes a special person to be a cop. These are brave men and women who are rising to a particular challenge. Most have a keen sense of justice. They receive fulfillment from serving a need in the community and protecting people’s interests.
They may or may not be “religious” even though I hope they are believers. But did you know the Bible says “…they are God’s ministers, …” I encourage all DNO readers to get a Bible and read Romans 13;1-6.
Some fall short. Many excel. Every time they put on the uniform they lay their lives on the line because nobody knows what is going to happen on that shift. We could never pay them enough.
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.
The more the better to eradicate especially the big-time crimes in Dominica so that you will live happily, safely and peacefully. Should you not be appreciative?
Congratulations to the New Recruits to our comm: of Dominica Police Force. Enough has been well said therefor. I take this opportunity to say to you, at the end your service to Country seek to make it the most important decision you ever made, and make it Change you in apositive way for the rest of your life. God`s speed and Mirror what is already the Best Police Force in the Entire Carribean, bar, None!! Comrade Mr Minister of Security, admonished you all, do not listen to those who were there before you cause they were the Mantle of “Slackness”. My friend you said it only as a politician can, Im in the wrong profession. See you soon my friend for us to have a good laugh at that statement. C.I.D, C. I. D.
This is a joke, they have not been properly trained.
Since you appear to know more than who trained them, why did you not volunteer to train them? You would have done a great service to your country by keeping busy that you would have no time to be critical.
What do you know about their training?
They have received a rigorous course of training.
My mother taught me “If you can’t say something nice don’t say anything.”
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.
Coincidentally, some directives.
I copied the following excerpt from a Toronto Media, http://www.680news.com
Changes to Police tactics/investigations –
“Traditionally what we have done is a silo type of response to violence, by division, and we have done that based on our geographical area or boundaries…But the players don’t play by that geographic area…so what Project Revolution does is provide a wider lens.”
The goal is to create more effective communication and information sharing between the three divisions as the team looks for similarities in shooting crimes, potential and existing rivalries and gang affiliations.
This is how it works: Based on intelligence gathered from communities in the most high-risk and violent areas, undercover officers are sent out to chase leads. As well, they follow up on people on parole and probation who are at high risk to re-offend or go back to their violent lifestyle. The team’s mandate is “to target crime,” not specific communities.
Congratulations to the new police officers. I do not have much to state on this or improve on for, as per the above statements of the Minister of Justice, Immigration and National Security, Rayburn Blackmoore and Attorney General Levi Peter, they are well-stated. You have received advice and directives on this matter.
God be with you as you exercise your duties to Dominican nationals.
Before we would have our little passing out parade on the holy ground/parade square where it all starts . now that is like a Kim Jong Il/ Chavez show of force thing……hmmm .just taking note of how things change.
Same thing I saying there wi
Where else you expected it to take place? We are in the twenty-first century, the year 2016. Do you not expect things to change? Does anything remain the same? Note the progress of D/ca in comparison to those days. Are you still that narrow-minded that you do not expect it to change?
Dominica now has a Stadium. In previous years it was a small park. People as you cannot be pleased. You never see the good and positive; always the negative. Open your mind to this present era.
You just fill this report with insignificant spout outs from people who think to say what they believe people want to hear. Why couldn’t you congratulate the lads? Highlight the awards presented and earned? Promote their achievement as some thing to be emulated by other young people in whatever vacation they favor?
Congrats to all the young people who have become servants to our people. My God keep you all to do an honest job. Congrats to Ramson Frederick the only Kalinago in between and being the second to the best of the lot!
Im confused with this to be honest.
Our population isnt growing that fast, so why are we continuously recruiting more police officers?
Is the attrition rate that high?
If so why is that the case?
At some point we have to consider whether it would be more prudent to freeze hiring of new recruits, and spend that money on providing better equipment, and facilities for the existing staff.
Ha ha ha! You asking me?? Well, I think the Scare-it rigid regime in tightening up on you guys. Go take a look at N. Korea’s military; It will blow your mind. That’s what nervous and corrupt leaders do.
I understand like in the teaching profession most of them do not meet the criteria. Remember what The President of the Dominica Teachers Union had to say about the recruitment of persons to the teaching profession. The same holds true for the recruitment of police officers most of them fail the basic test and also the light detector test especially the young men but they are sent by politicians so the chief and others have no choice but to take them in. I hope the young officers will grow to be mature and professional officers in spite their short comings.
This is a remark I made some time ago concerning police officers ,teachers and nurses.Dominica is recruiting more police ,nurses and teachers more than Guadeloupe and Martinique that are more developed socially and financially. The gov’t is not producing any thing to support the financial needs of the country. What ever is moving forward is doing it with loans;hence the reason why the gov’t is owing over a million in loans. The are little buses which is used as ambulances;the ambulance worker cannot stand in a bus ;they must sit down. The is a scarcity of litter trucks ;rubbish is left too long and turns into a home for rats and all other bugs;why can’t the gov’t see that littler trucks are needed? There is a serious breech of management in Dominica;I know that we all must eat but it is not by employing civil servants constantly we will move forward.
All some of you do is to criticize. I think you put your foot in your mouth. The criminal element is so bad in especially Guadeloupe that, note how many policemen (not police women) arrived from France. If Guadeloupe of all would recruit more police officers, it would not have been necessary to request all these police officers from France.
As for what is needed in Dominica, there are times the people who see the need for better service should contact the authority.
You may need a 311 number as we have in Toronto. This department is operated by the City with a Call Center that the public could telephone 24/7 about their complaints, be they pot holes, garbage, etc. When they do, a reference number is given for later follow-up. This department was established a few years ago.
As an afterthought, we do not only talk and criticize. We act and expect action. We mean, serious business and action.
There we go again
When will dominicas learn to compliment the government
When they do something good, say it
Some people even if you pay they will still turn around and bite you
And there are still people who can never be pleased. Regardless of what good the government does they always see an ulterior motive. And good or bad they never miss an opportunity to take a swing at the P.M.
Try being positive for a change. Be thankful! You will find it is a happier and healthier life.
Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.
I agree. People who consistently complain project they are unhappy people.
Better to be proactive than reactive. You don’t want when something major happens ya’ll start crying saying Dominica don’t even have enough police to serve the island. And remember people may be retiring and moving on to other jobs.
I agree and as I stated above. They are never satisfied, those miserable people. One day they will pay for it and regret their words.
Congrats to the graduates. word of advice-Do not become corrupt and do not let your job get to your head. May God be with you as you serve.
We must also pray for those who serve Dominica. I do not think they are prayed for enough; some do not pray for them at all.
