Three people have been arrested following the seizure of five 9-mm guns in Newtown.

The weapons were uncovered during the execution of a search warrant on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, Police PRO, Acting Inspector Pellam Jno Baptiste said.

“Three individuals have been arrested on suspicion for possession of firearms,” he said.

The discovery follows the seizure of an AK-47, an Uzi Machine Gun, and two 9-mm pistols during a raid in Silver Lake on Saturday. Cocaine, marijuana, and ammunition were also seized in the raid.

Investigations are ongoing.

So this is what you criminals have turned Dominica into? Shame on you and for putting your fellow people at risk of their life.
Those are dangerous guns. Those who have those guns are dangerous people. They will not fail to use them on their fellow people, which is the reason they have them in the first place.
    Were they to be sold?
I hope the judge/magistrate ask them what did they plan to do with them, where they got them and how they were brought into Dominica since it does not have a gun shop (I expect)?
This should be a qualifying question if (when) their attorneys request bail for them and if they are being considered for bail.
We want to see if they will be granted bail. It will not keep them quiet from committing crimes.

Good job. Great job, if found guilty, send them to a place so they will have time to Reflect. It appears no one is safe, when we have illegal firearms showing up in every corner of our Country. My opinion,, keep the pressure on, where ever they may be, and who ever they are. ## Guns and Drugs are trending,we say get them, those merchant of Death.

What is really going on in Dominica? Dominica is now a nation under siege! Dominica is currently bloated with a powder keg of issues that stems from it’s divisive political climate and the growing gap between the rich and the poor. The Country is torn in half along political lines that places loyalty to party before loyalty to Country. While every single Dominican profess to be peaceful and friendly to each other there is a silent undertone of potential chaos brewing between the two main political parties that threatens to spiral the Country into what can only be described as a nightmare scenario. No one will readily admit it but many Dominicans are considering the possibility that they may have to protect themselves just in case!

Most people will think this crazy but, for the answer to why the increase in serious crimes can be found in the book of Deuteronomy.
Those who have understanding will know.

The question of the day is..Where and how are these weapons and drugs entered into Dominica? Do they go through customs or somewhere else?. It is so scary the Government have to do something, stop spending time trying to crucify Lennox and UWP and pay more attention of what is happening in our island. These guys must have some help higher up to have all these weapons and drugs . We need to protect our people.

Dominica Police have scored another successful raid :!:

We can certainly learn from the repetition of circumstances bust after bust.

We find marijuana being sold along with cocaine and guns. People who will sell marijuana will sell cocaine and other hard drugs. Thy will also sell guns.

These are people who don’t care about anything except their own financial profit and pleasure.

People who want a gun to use in a crime will buy from an illegal gun dealer to avoid being identified or traced. They know their local drug dealer is the man to see. People who sell drugs frequently carry guns for their own protection against being robbed, to keep competitive drug dealers off their turf, to take revenge against a dealer who sells them “bad stuff”, and to avoid arrest.

Drugs and guns go hand in glove. Where you find this business you will find marijuana because it is part of the drug trade.

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

When bubbles’ gun was returned to him even if it was unlicensed, the precedent was set. No law, not even the constitution. How can the police proceed with this case when they set bubbles free?

“After they are charged, their names will be published”. Mr. John Doe, businessman from Newtown, and two members of his close aquaintances were arrested and charged for the illegal possession of firearms. The world now know who it is. “Often some of these people are found to be either not guilty or even innocent, but the initial publication does the damage to their reputation particularly if the crime involves sex” What if John Doe is found to be innocent in after the trial? His name has already been published anyway. Does that ruin his reputation? Isn’t that a contradiction?

Yeah you obviously don’t know how human psychology works. Ever heard the saying about first impressions? If the first time you heard about someone was them being charged for a crime, them being found not guilty (and that is if you follow up on the case and find that out) will most probably not change your perception of them that you created from hearing about them being arrested for some criminal offense.

That’s just police speak for ‘finger-prints were found on the guns’.

I cannot understand the language. Isn’t possesion a physical act. How can someone be suspected for possession when the thing was found on them or on a compound they control in every respect. Was the gun found in the Bar or on the sidewalk?

      • Face the Facts
        February 24, 2016

The law of words: “suspected, alleged”, etc. Their names cannot be published unless they are charged.
They could say they are not theirs, that someone gave them to hold; they know nothing about them and how they were found in their home.. This is the manner criminals operate and defend themselves. Criminals lie to deceive even the Court. Until it is proven, they are considered suspects.

This is beginning to trend towards a lawless society especially when it comes to gun possession . We may not able to stop this entirely ; however our laws in this regard must be strengthen . What about mandatory for possession without a license and the type of weapon ?

What happen the three individuals who were arrested don’t have names? Whats the big secrecy? If the truth cannot be revealed why report at all. Yes I, Dominica again

ADMIN: The law prohibits the publication of the names of people arrested unless they are charged in a court of law. After they are charged, their names will be published.

    • Zandoli
      February 24, 2016

In North America people’s names are released on arrest. A lot of people think that law is universal.

Often some of these people are found to be either not guilty or even innocent, but the initial publication does the damage to their reputation particularly if the crime involves sex.
