 People in Canada who do not want marijuana legalized tell us it is because:

The drug is addictive both psychologically and physically. :-o

It causes physical harm. They claim marijuana can cause damage to the brain and impair the memory especially in teenagers.

It is a “gateway” drug. A significant number of people who are addicted to cocaine or heroine began their drug use by using marijuana.

Statistics show the more readily available any substance is the more people will use it.

They say decriminalization would cause an immediate increase in its use especially among the young.

Legalizing marijuana will not stop people from producing, selling, and using it illegally. In fact they say legalization will INCREASE the illegal use of the drug for the following reasons:

    (a) Once it is legalized for sale in stores the government can tax it. 8)

    (b) Taxing it will increase the price.

    (c) The higher price will move people to produce and sell it illegally for a lower price. People will naturally buy it where they can get it at the lower price.

    (d) Once it is legalized the authorities will set a minimum age at which people can buy it. Underage users will go to illegal sellers to make their purchases.

To prove their point those who don’t want marijuana legalized in Canada are offering this proof. Tobacco is is legal in Canada. It is taxed. There is a minimum age for the purchase of cigarettes. We have scores of large illegal operations in my province (Ontario alone) producing and selling bootleg cigarettes tax free to people of any age. It is a big concern for the Government of the Province of Ontario and the police.

We are hoping people in Canada and other nations who want what is best for the young generation will ask their political candidates to declare where they stand on the drug issue so they can make the right choices at the polls.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

If Dominica would legalize marijuana we could become way developed and be debt free. Just imagine how famous of a country we would become. Tourist from all over the world would flock to our country. Foreign businesses would see opportunity and invest. With all that money pouring into the country we could upgrade medical and educational facilities. There’s not one school with wifi in Dominica yet. People need to open their eyes and realize that alcohol was once prohibited just like marijuana and they are only feeding into stereotypes which have been passed on through generations. Alcohol is way worse and one is able to get as drunk as one wasn’t now, without anybody thinking they are a criminal. Why can’t the same principals apply to marijuana?

    • November 16, 2013

My friend, are you saying if it marijuana brings money into the economy it would be O.K. :?:

Do you not realize it was this kind of thinking that created the slave trade? It totally blows my mind when I hear people in the Caribbean talk that way. Those who forget their history are so prone to repeat its mistakes.

Yes, it may be if you made Dominica into a wide open haven for drug users with free access for all you would have a the greatest tourist attraction in the Caribbean until other islands caught up with you. But have you stopped to think the kind of people you would be attracting? Not exactly the people Dominican parents would want their children around :!: Tourists? Yes! But as one old sage said “Some of them would be leaving more than their money behind.

More harm is done by alcohol than by marijuana? Actually marijuana has the same or greater potential to do harm than either alcohol or tobacco. We are presently SEEING more damage done by alcohol than by marijuana. This is because the sale and use of alcohol is wide open. It is the drug of choice for most people who use any dopey substance. If people had the same access to marijuana – if it was sold and used everywhere like booze is you would see as much or more damage being done by marijuana. And don’t think it wouldn’t be used as much or more.

      I recall a Ph.D. psychologist telling me after a
lecture I attended years ago that he doubted if the harm done by alcohol had been known at the time it would have been licensed for sale.

It is almost a certainty that tobacco would not have been approved for the market if the truth had been known then about smoking. Now we know that 50% of all smokers WILL die from an illness caused by tobacco smoke. Governments across Canada are spending huge sums of tax payers money to warn people about the harm done by smoking and limit how tobacco products can be advertised, and where people can smoke.

The Science shows if marijuana is used as much as alcohol and tobacco the harm done will as as bad or worse.

I believe Dominican people want what is best for the nation and especially their children. No amount of fun or pleasure is worth losing a generation for.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

    Weed Effects on the Lungs

Smoking marijuana, even infrequently, can cause burning and stinging of the mouth and throat, and cause heavy coughing. Scientists have found that regular marijuana smokers can experience the same respiratory problems as tobacco smokers do, including:

    – Daily cough and phlegm production
    – More frequent acute chest illnesses
    – Increased risk of lung infections
    – Obstructed airways

People who want to smoke marijuana to get high or sell it for financial gain do not want to admit to the facts. When people want something that is restricted or legally forbidden badly enough an illicit desire takes over their thinking and the truth becomes their worst enemy. 8)

Marijuana is addictive both psychologically and physically.

It causes various types of cancer.

It causes lung and breathing problems.

It damages the brain and causes memory problems.

It creates learning problems. Students who smoke marijuana more often drop out of school before graduation.

Marijuana ages a person twice as fast as tobacco.

It harms unborn babies and can cause them to be born damaged for life.

People who smoke and drive are at risk of having an accident as much as those who drink and drive.

People who smoke marijuana and operate heavy machinery are at risk of an accident.

Marijuana is a “gateway” drug. Many who are addicted to “heavy” drugs began by smoking marijuana.

Those who lobby for the decriminalization and legalization of marijuana now are bigger fools :-x than the governments that licensed the
production and sale of tobacco many years ago. Now it is a scientific fact that 50% of those who smoke tobacco will die from a tobacco related disease. In Canada in Ontario alone over 10,000 die every year from tobacco smoke.

When those who are pushing for marijuana acceptance one of their insane arguments is the fact that the governments of various countries have already legalized it. This is an example of how drug use causes people to lose their rational thinking ability. Why does it not occur  to these people that the same governments long ago legalized tobacco and cannot be trusted? 8-O It is because some of them are long time drug users. Their ability to reason and think  objectively has been impaired, OR they are in line to make money from the sale of the weed, OR if they are a politician somebody is holding something over them and they are being blackmailed. :-o

Marijuana is an evil product and this why it is part of organized crime  along with other drugs, extortion, smuggling, porn, and prostitution.

Our greatest defence is offence! :-o Do the reasearch, publish the facts, and get the truth out to the public.

At election time find out where your candidates stand on the decriminalization – legalization issue and if they would change the existing laws. If they do not make it an election issue you make it an issue by asking them. Get it out in the open. Let them respectfully know that you do not want any surprises!

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Pentecostal Evangelist.

      Brain Up People:

I believe the effects of smoking marijuana on the lungs which you have listed are correct because I have read similar reports.

There is also evidence now that marijuana smoking is harmful to the brain and damages the memory. This makes it especially dangerous for young people who are trying to get their education. Sadly, this probably includes most of the marijuana smokers in Canada and the States. I am less familar with the Caribbean.

It has also been found to be very harmful for pregnant women producing premature births and badly damaged babies with life long major health problems.

There is also the risk for smokers who drive. A driver high on weed is definately at risk behind the wheel. Some drink and smoke then drive. If there is an accident the alcohol is blamed because the driver (if he is still alive) knows better than to admit he had also been smoking. Nevertheless, marijuana is sometimes a factor in accidents.

Another problem is the fact that marijuana is considered a “soft” drug in spite of what is now known about it. It is a “gateway” drug. This means it is the drug that introduces people to drug use. Many people now hooked on a “hard” drug say marijuana was the first drug they used and it got them started using.

Some governments have legalized the “medical” use of marijuana as a pain killer especially for cancer victims. The question I am asking is this: “Is there EVIDENCE that it is more effective than the best of the powerful pain killers that are already available?” Please note: I am not saying there is not. I am asking these questions. “IS it?” and if so “WHAT is the evidence?”

The marijuana-medical lobby has not done the best job of providing this information to the public. We want the truth – facts that we can verify. Many of us including myself would be very happy to welcome any drug (even “weed”) that makes life more bearable for those suffering from a serious and painful illness without bringing harmful side effects.

Doctors when prescribing any drug have to balance the benefits that can be expected against the possible harmful side effects.

In some places marijuana has been legalized for medical use without giving the public what evidence (if any) the government has that it is more effective than already existing drugs.

If it can be shown that marijuana is the most effective pain killer or the best drug to use for any purpose – and that the possible benefits outweigh the possible harm – I would be the first to want it legalized for medical purposes providing laws are in place to keep its use within medical boundaries.

There is something that does bother me. This is only my own observation. There seems to be a significant number of people who want marijuana now for their pain who admit to smoking it for recreational purposes long before they became ill. Those who never smoked it are more apt to find relief from pain from a more conventional pain killer.

I hold a Diploma in Drugs and Drug Dependancy, and my ministry has taken me to the gangland of Brooklyn, N.Y., where Teen Challenge had its beginning, and into the slums of some of North America’s largest cities. I am not an authority on this subject but I am qualified to write what I am submitting in these comments.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill, D.D. International Pentecostal Evangelist.

I don’t care how many thumbs down I get nuh. Legalizing weed is just another excuse for people to act dumb. People who typically smoke weed want an excuse for their actions. And legalizing the drug would be the perfect way. Not only does it affect themselves but also the environment and the people around them.

I don’t promote alcohol and cigarettes being legal, to me they are in fact worse, but legalizing weed not going to reduce no death rate, right!!

It could be used for production and medical uses but most people want it legalized so they can smoke it and smoking it does in fact harm the body in excess. It’s just another reason for people to act stupid and get away with it. Im sorry but I don’t wanna be around people who are high as a kite 24/7. It’s stupid.

So quick to b so negative about ganja and not keeping up to the times with the scientific research at present that is revealing all the positives and erasing all the lies about ganja from the past. 1st a drug requires a chemical change, ganja is just a plant, dried then smoked or cooked. People use it it diff ways. Americans made it illegal now they r legalizing it every year in a diff state. Ganja makes u rebel, against the system and laws of man that’s y them dont like it, because they always want to control u, and give u rum so they can handle u, because when u drunk u become controllable.

They have the land and a fertile one. They prefer wasting it with growing an illegal substance.
Why did they not grow nutritious fruits and vegetables to sell? Christmas is coming. Why did they not grow yams, white, yellow, ladies yams, dasheen, tanyas, sweet potatoes, red beans, pigeon beans, cucumbers, carrots, cabbage, etc.? Some of them could be eaten by them and their family. Consider the savings. If they did, they would not have been arrested for growing marijuana.
Satan finds some mischief for idle hands, fingers and feet to do. This is the result of idleness which is the devil’s playground and not doing something worthwhile with their life, to seek legal employment and to help make Dominica a better, peaceful and safe place to live.
This is what they should have concentrated on. It is not too late for them to do so. God who is in control will take care of the rest.

Anonymous, tell us, why would you question the PM about his money? Why would anyone even think of doing so? Do you not think that you are exceeding your boundary and going too far when you ask the PM where he got the/his money from to do whatever he so wishes? It is a downright mark of disrespect. It really is no one’s business.
In bygone years people were respectful also toward authority. Did anyone in those days ask a chief minister or a prime minister where he got his money from? Did they ever dare to do so? I suppose they were too busy minding their own business and taking care of their family; others were busy working and doing their utmost to make a living. Were times in D/ca better then? Many will say “NO!” Except it was practically free of crimes/murders. D/ca then, to a certain extent, was not as better as the privilege and benefit D/cans of today are enjoying, in comparison to their parents and grandparents…
Pertaining to turtles, it is like marijuana, they will continue defying the law until they are caught. Some people, as disobedient and daring as they are, will never learn a lesson for their own good.

What kind of charges should these men face ? No charges what- so- ever!!! These men are simply practicing the science of Agriculture. As soon as the govt. can manage to get a portion of the farmers’ profits, everything will be fine. Don’t courts have important things to do besides charging hard working people who are just trying to make some money in order to survive?

In developed Countries, Marijuana is considered a highly for medical purposes. Ironically, in undeveloped countries, Marijuana is considered a substance of criminal activity. From slavery – colonization – neocolonization – globalization….
What a trajectory? In 2013, the black man is still controlled by the white man. He still controls our social and economic status. A million dollar industry such as medicine manufacturing is denied by the rich but also, the rich creates these policies that ensure blacks to deny their own from riches. (Remember the slavery story…the days back in West Africa). We must not live in the past, but we must remember our history to govern our future. (SIDS, ACP countries, Undeveloped countries…..) whatever they want to name us….we got to wake up!!!!

I am so disappointed in these two senior citizens who take pride in destroying the youths of this country. We are always quick to castigate the youths and many times the adults(senior citizens) are responsible for their destruction. I am imploring those in the judiciary system to have no mercy of these grown a.. men and let justice be served. My wish and heart’s desire, from a teacher and youth leader.

Are you from Dominica? Marijuana is part of Dominican culture. Even here in the USA, educated citizens are stepping up to legalize Marijuana. People are addicted to nicotine in cigarettes but, there is no criminal activity attached to it because it’s legal. If Marijuana was legal, these guys would even be considered criminals; you might be working for them.

The big shots with the big alcohol and cigarette companies are not destroying our youths as well, they are drugs and leading cause of death. Stop being bias soon it will be legal cause in America more states a making it legal when they realize the profits in a billion dollar industry. marijuana wasn’t alway illegal and was very useful then and will soon be again. My advise, do a research and see how marijuana became illegal and U’ll see.

It is reserved for only the authorized and those authorized to handle and use it responsibly.
If it was truly a medicine unauthorized people would not sell it, get rich on it and some get drunk on it, steal and kill for it. This is only a tip of the iceberg. Give this a thought.

Haha you all look at tv way too much to think we can supply america with marijuana where how would you transport it ? If you legalize it and the rest of the world aint legalizing it then no one will allow you to transport drugs on their ship or aircraft and you all will create more crime because now the young fellers that planting it wont make much money so now they will find better means if a bigger income e.g selling hard drugs and robbing people even more.

Don’t you see that whenever you mention the legalization of Marijuana, you must mention the USA. This is due to the fact that our Marijuana laws are derived from them. Not to mention the ones planting it now are not making a lot of money so really nothing will change for the worse.

Oh please give us a break with your jah jah. Who is he? Srely, you are not referring to our God Almighty who made Heaven and earth and who will, at the appointed time judge us for all eternity.
Learn some Catechism. Why did God create us? “He created us to know him, love him and serve him in this life (also through others) and to be happy with him forever in Heaven.” This is our ultimate goal which we should ever be eager to pursue.
Our God is pleased that they are caught. Some people abuse of the plants that God gave us for whatever reason.
Note they cultivate it for sale and to ingest, not for authorized medication. They sell it, get rich and do not pay taxes on it. Aside from making those who ingest it dotish and kill them, this is another reason why it is illegal.

Boss man, show me the statistics where eMarijuana killed anybody.
Look who dotish now. It would take an adult male 15,000 joints in a day to get OD on Marijuana……. Which is technically impossible. Hence, Marijuana cannot kill you….. Ever.

How can your God, which you call a Merciful God be happy that man destroys another man life for the very same plant that your God created…….. More Dotish again.

You always come here thinking that you sound so intelligent and these three wise men here are way advance than you. With all our ” Dotish Wisdom”, do you think you could cultivate and cure Marijuana to the perfection as these noble Wise men are doing.
Not only they are practicing the Science of Agriculture, but they actually effectively executing BioChemistry and Microbiology through the curing of the buds and developing strains that are height in THC concentration.

Not only you sound Dotish but your false propaganda is only falling on a few uneducated individuals.

More and more ” intellectuals ” are educating themselves and understanding the importance if these unique wonder plant that these wise men have Mastered the Art of Cultivation and you have the audacity to call them Dotish.

Mr. police, Mr. Minister, MR. Prime Minister, your war on Drugs is a total failure and a waste of our resources. Open your minds and Hearts to the Positive Spirit Nature of these wise men and ask yourselves if it is Justice to label them criminals because they are working the soil?

Marijuana is here to stay and there is NOTHING that you ” truth n Justice ” can do about it. Marijuana is for the betterment of every man, Woman and child.

2336 grams of marijuana is equal to 2.336 kilograms, which is equal to only 5 (five) pounds of marijuana. The police report it in grams to make seem like a lot to persons who may not realize or know it but that is a lot of trees though.

In my opinion, smoking or possession of a small amount of marijuana with no intent to sell or distribute, should be not a crime of a hefty fine or long jail-term.

May be one day, with good governance, equal rights and justice for all, and commonsense legislation, our lawmakers will understand that it is not in the best interest of the country to incarcerate or impose heavy fines for smoking a joint while the real kingpins are out on bail for the hard drugs such as cocaine. Too many lives are ruined in the system while the privileged get over.

    • Justice and Truth
      August 27, 2013

Consider, in order to have a small amount of marijuana, it must be grown. Growing it is illegal.
Now for equal rights and common sense. First, some people of this era appear to have no common sense. They have lost it. Some of them want equal rights even though they are two men and two women in a relationship and not a one-man and one-woman relationship as God ordained.
They want legislations for all sorts of immoralities and prohibitions as marijuana. I see some members of society going down slippery slopes as they travel on the broad road that leads to Hell. This is also where consistent disobedience of the Law will take them.

Cocaine is highly addictive Marijuana is not. Most people do not want to sell Marijuana, they just want to smoke it. Who are you to tell me what I can or can’t put into my body. I personally think that once you become an adult all drugs should be legal to you. If you destroy your body that’s between you and God. Marijuana does not destroy your body. KFC and their greasy chicken does more destruction to your body than Marijuana.

Should it ever be legalized and not controlled, it would be chaos in the land. It will end up being a dog eat dog world and worse than it is today.
Lord have mercy on those who would traffic in them, sell them and ingest them.
Have mercy on and protect the innocent ones, adult and children who would never take them but who would be vulnerable to their whims and wiles, by forcing them to purchase this illegal substance.

well it wouldnt be worthless, cause even though everyone would have the right to plant and use, not everybody is able to plant or has the time, or is good at planting. It being legal also allows for the exploration and development of other products from the plan, something which is not possible now. Keep in the mind as well that by legislating this there must be a acompanying mechanisms which speaks to the whole handling and how it legally gets to the market. like alcohol, anybody can do a home brew or wine, rum, beer etc, for personal consumption and even to share with friends and family, however for that home brew to appear legally on the market you must meet certain standards. there is also a certification process which certifies both the process you used to produce the alcohol as well as the final product. the government has points of taxes where they generate their cut, at different phases of production and marketing. so 21st century farmer, your name is a misnomer as you seem to be stuck in the middle ages, be more enlightened and open minded, cause this is the main thing of this century, the availability and access to information

We had the pics of the guys from Petite Savanne, Grand Bay and now Layou plastered on this website for all to see yet the pics of the four from Syndicate, who were all charged, and had a shotgun of all things, are yet to surface.

DNO what’s the reason for this?
