Three Dominicans arrested for murder in St. Maarten; suspects reportedly committed several robberies, rape

The relatives of three of the four victims that were violently killed earlier this year can now breathe a sigh of relief as the police have managed to solve the cases. At a joint press conference held between the Gendarmes, the Dutch Police and Prosecutors Office on Monday the disclosure was made.

Chief Public Prosecutor Hans Mos said the suspects confessed to their involvement in the murder of Ludovic Guillevin (the chef on Cheetah Moon), Fiodel Louis (the Haitian Security Guard who was killed while on his way to work), and Eduardo Nova Valdez (the Spanish Pastor whose body was found on Alexis Arnell Road).

These murders were committed between February 26th and March 4th 2011. Behind bars for the brutal murders, rape and string of armed robberies are; Sherwan Roberts (20), Curtley Richards (31) and Julius Serrant (28) all natives of Dominica.

Mos said on Thursday April 7th 2011, three men were arrested. They were to be considered the main suspects of, at that time, two violent robberies and a rape later police arrested two other suspects who were subsequently released.

The Chief Prosecutor explained that the murders committed since February 26th and March 4th showed some similarities and such the investigators assumed that the cases were inter-related and must have been committed by the same person or persons. It must be noted that all three victims were killed violently as they were beaten then shot to death.

I got my start in SM. I love the place and was always treated well by my friends born in SM. I do not subscribe to the death penalty because it is not universally applied. But in this case, KILL the BASTARDS, then do exactly what the Catholic Church did to William Tyndale, although I do not contribute to the reason they did it.

When people invite you in their homes, you cannot treat them like that. I can tell you, it is not only in SM these young Dominican behaved badly. I no longer attend Dominican parties here in New York because of the behavior of some of many of these badly brought up children who believe they bought their badness in Kmart.

I hope the government will send an emissary to SM to address the issue on behalf of those many, many law fearing and hardworking Dominicans.

I am a Dominican living in St.Maarten and as soon as i arrived at work my Jamaican co-workers threw the news paper at me saying “all you Dominicans make the headlines too , so they are going to put visa for Dominicans to come to ST.Maarten too”” ——– I personally knew the Hatian national that these guys brutally murdered. What a shame no matter where these murders are from wether its Dominica or any other nation!!!! These guys theyare making it bad for all of us living and working on the island .

    This is so sad.

Apparently they confessed, why admit to such horrible crimes if you didnot commit them.

My sympathy goes out to the families of the victims, they have to live with the fact that their loved ones were murdered, also the rape victim(s), as they have to live with that awful memory.

I dont know the families of the accused, but they to are victims of their relatives crimes.

    April 19, 2011

The bad thing is…not only will these 3, if found guilty pay for the crime, but the stigma will be attached to other Dominicans. I do not want a stigma attached to me where someone will say ‘ A Dominican again!” or before a crime happen for people to say ” a Dominican that do that!

I see it every time with Jamaicans (sorry for that analogy)

Please my fellow Dominicans….when we get to another man’s country, let’s respect their laws and life. Let’s not think that we are above it…but most of all, let’s remember that when 1 of us does bad, it may reflect on all the rest of us.

    People think before you act.

Now these 3 stooges may have just spoiled and tarnished things for the other Dominicans in SMX.

DOMINICANS, YOU SOW BITTER SEEDS NOW YOU MUST DRINK BITTER WATERS. YOU ALL HAVE BEEN CULTIVATING THESE KIND OF CRIMINALS FOR THE LONGEST TIME. YOU SEE THEY ARE SO ACCUSTOM OF COMMITTING VIOLENT CRIMES IN DOMINICA AND GETTING AWAY WITH IT THROUGH THE HANDS OF CORRUPTED OFFICIALS THAT THEY FEEL THAT THEY ARE IMMUNE TO CRIME AND CAN COMMIT AND GET AWAY WITH IT IN ANY OTHER COUNTRY. (WRONG) THE ONLY THING TO THAT IS THE LAWYERS AND MAGISTRATES OF THOSE COUNTRIES ARE NOT CORRUPTED AS THOSE IN DOMINICA. MAGISTRATE TIYANI BEHANZIN SHOULD JOIN FORCES WITH THOSE IN ST MAARTEN, FOR HIS SERVICES IS BADLY NEEDED THERE. AND TO THOSE WHO COMMITTED THOSE CRIME, I SAY (HANG EM HIGH) THREE LESS BAD SEEDS OUT OF DOMINICA.

  34. Trouble intended
    April 19, 2011

You know, sometimes we Dominicans sound pretty darm heartless. The report is saying that these guys killed three people, committed several rapes and robberies; yet, the most pervasive response from Dominicans is, “what happens to us now?” Things like, they make us shame..no more visa for US Dominicans….Does everything have to be about YOU? What about the people who got killed, raped and robbed? How about their families? What about the neighborhoods in SXM that were terrorized by these activities?

Maybe if we would start putting ourselves in their shoes, we would find solutions to some of these senseless acts. But from what I am reading, it seems like we are never concerned about the victim unless it is our own. Regardless of the situation, it sounds like we Dominicans are overly concerned about what happens to US, giving very little thought to the victims of our actions.. That is very selfish.

I hope the victims find the strength to at least cope with their losses. These acts are indeed senseless and must be very hard to live with. To the dead, may their souls rest in peace.

I have followed this case on CNN. They can solve it but refuse to do so. The evidence is there as to who was responsible for Nathalie’s disappearance. Status speaks. The authorities do not want to expose this young man. Let them and him continue keeping it a secret. He is in prison in Peru for another crime. It may never get away.
They can run and hide from the law but not from God. God knows who is responsible for Nathalie’s disappearance. The day will come when he and those who hide the fact will pay the price for all eternity. This is our consolation.
I do feel sorry for Nathalie’s parents. They want the case closed but as long as this young man does not divulge any concrete information to convince the police authorities, this case will not be closed. May something happen to close it.

Weh boy, things that bad that these fellas could check their consciences and just decide to steal, rape, and kill their way into attaining money?

For how we are a small country and community, it is sometimes hard for me to fathom that we are capable of producing monsters, but here we are.

Anyways French and Dutch authorities, do what you want with them. By their actions they forfeited all their Dominican rights, you may keep them and dispose of them how you see fit. Make examples of them.

These guys bringing down Dominica’s good name…

A voice, I agree with everything you have said except about the rape part. People dont rape for money, they rape to exercise power over the victim and in many cases to degrade them. The worst form of insult combined with injury. It is a heinous crime with no excuse, no pardon. In many cases the woman ends up pregnant or diseased and have to relive that experience throughout her life. If a child comes out of it, it is stigmatized in his own mind, no matter how much the mother tries to protect it. All its life the child cannot find peace within. There should be a special punishment for such rapists that includes relieving them of some body parts, and placing ‘the mark of the beast’ on their faces..

This is very disturbing news and not very good news for the Town of Portsmouth, Coomonwealth of Dominica. All three accused are reportedly from Portsmouth and Portsmouth is the town where most boats plying the huckster trade to Saint Martin/Saint Maaten originate. The damage these guys have done is irrepairable in the short term and can cost Dominicans living and working in the twin island nation much embarassment and scrutiny.

These culprits must be dealt with the full arm of the law, including regretably the DEATH PENALTY.

    • Is that so?
      April 19, 2011

This Curtley Guy has been in and out of jail both in DA and overseas. It is time that these guys be kept in jail PERMANENTLY and NVER see the light of day again. That is the only way we can protect society from these MONSTERS!!!

YEP AGAIN IN SXM. SHAMEFUL. I GUESS THEY WILL PUT VISA FOR DOMINICANS NOW LIKE THEY DID FOR JAMAICANS AND GUYANEESE.

WELL WE ARE HAPPY THAT WERE CAUGHT BECAUSE INNOCENT PPL WOULD HAVE BEN BLAMED

I hope the authorities are wrong and that these Dominicans are not involved. It seems perplexing that the Dutch/ French authorities can so quickly solve these murders yet they cannot solve the one in Aruba of Yoran vandersleuth or whatever his name is!!

On the other hand if these guys are really the perpetrators then they should be given the maximum penalty.. Death by hanging!!!

Why all the hate. I am just saying I hope these guys are not being used as “scape goats”. People there I a tendency by law enforcement to want to appease the people when there are unsplved murders. Most times they use immigrants who do not have any status to pon the crime on.

TAKE WHAT U READ WITH A GRAIN OF SALT!!!

Dominicans Again!!! Why cant our people behave themselves when they go to other peoples countries? Isnt it time some dominicans stop giving all of us dominicans bad names? I hope these three fry if they are indeed guilty…rape, robbery and murder? Please St.Martin give them life in prison so they wont get the chance to come back to dominica.
