Three guns disappear at Police Headquarters; investigations begin

police investigation 2The police have begun investigations into the disappearance of three .45 pistols at Police Headquarters in Roseau belonging to the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force.

According to reports, the pistols have gone missing and no one is prepared to say much about their sudden disappearance.

“All I can say to you is that an investigation is now underway with someone from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) leading the investigations,” a source told DNO.

The source, who spoke on clear condition of anonymity, disclosed that the situation is now “tense” at police headquarters as the Police Chief, Daniel Carbon, has vowed to “get to the bottom of the matter and recover the missing firearms which have now been deemed stolen.”

“Everybody is tense and saying nothing….it is very uncomfortable in Police Headquarters,” the source said.

When contacted, Carbon declined to comment.

This is not the first time that firearms have gone missing at Police Headquarters.

:?: This is the fruits of no law no constitution! When politicians are involved in selecting police, when people who are forced to join the police force due to lack of opportunities and as otherwise they would not be police officers, when incompetent people who can’t read and write properly are allowed to be police officers, this is what to expect!!! We have to also be concerned that this could be a gimmick or well planned and orchestrated plan to have police guns in the hands of supporters of the illegal rogues posing as government! This is what happened in Haiti under Duvalier,in Zimbabwe under Mugabe and all dictators and rogue governments to attack opposition parties!!!

Who will guard the guards? So can customs come and now take their guns for safe keeping?Stolen guns from HQ! seeing the customs department was deemed not safe from safe keeping of their guns, and now it it is established that guns were stolen or missing from the safe-keepers,who can you trust?Customs should now request or demand the return of their firearms for safekeeping. where is it safer now ?

Reading some of these comment on here is pretty sickening. Does anyone know the total number of police officers on the DPF? Let’s us not sit here and categorize the entire force as bad. Are there some police officers who should not be wearing that uniform? Absolutely! There are some very good police officers on the DFP who take their jobs of protecting and serving seriously. The goal here should be fully supporting that the culprits will be found and prosecuted accordingly. Maybe some of you commenting on here do not know anyone on the DFP, but remember, they are our Fathers, Mothers, Brothers, Sisters (you get the idea). “They are US we are THEM.” Policing is a community thing and as long as we regard the police on island as “them against us,” we will continue to see issues in our community. We know the drug dealers, thieves, criminals etc.. in our community and we hide them. One day it is going to hit home and we will all say, where is the law.

So tell us what the remedies are for solving these maladies!!? I do not think anyone of the persons who are criticizing the lost of these weapons are furious at the entire Force. It is the manner in which past indiscretions have been handled is a compass to go by for future prosecutions of misconduct , then we have serious problem on our hands.
But we love the Police as a whole.

The remedies start with accountability in every facet of our society. For too long there have been no accountability and hence we become complacent in our lives, in our jobs and by extension our society. We tend to constantly highlight the ills but rarely praise the good. While I do understand that there may have been past indiscretions, there have also been past resolutions and problem solving and great police work. The culprits who took the guns in my eyes are no different from the criminals on the streets and they should be where most criminals end up, in prison. There needs to be a multi-faceted approach, one being community policing. I have mentioned that before because I believe that it is so important to bridge the gap between community and police. We have to be our brothers keeper to make our streets and community safe and when there becomes a mutual trust and mutual respect between police and community, we will see less corrupt cops.

Three letters. CCT. Close circuit television. We need to move forward and throw away the wayward culture. Security is not just based on the human element. Who watches the guard?

    • Informed
      October 6, 2016

CCTV is good for investigative purposes and does not essentially prevent the crime. The human element is still very important to monitor and to be proactive during commission of the crime.

This is the lowest of the low and Chief Carbon must go.The failures under this police chief keep mounting and Skerritt tells us he has full confidence in Carbon as police chief.Any wonder why the country is a mess from agriculture to law enforcement, you name it and it’s just despicable.I believe that Mr Blackmore now has the handle of the sword to get a new chief from outside the country.Where is the results of the investigation into the missing testimony in the child molestation saga, the break in at the registry and on and on.Not only must Carbon be removed but Skerritt who expressed full confidence in him. This is a failure of epic proportions.I’m waiting to hear from Blackmore and Skerritt on this serious matter and watching to see what their next move is.Checkmate

This is shocking. Right in the Police Station, a place nationals trust of all? This will make nationals become distrustful. Some already feel that way.
It will obviously make the Police authorities feel uneasy.
Remember the keys to the Court House disappeared from the Police Station.
Some laptops disappeared. Money disappeared. No result of investigations.
This should never have occurred in the Police Station.
“Beware! There is a traitor on board. Examine the horns.” I recall this, from a book in elementary school. I think it was during Literature
Are all the officers not fingerprinted?
Check the fingerprints on the door and where the guns were kept. I hope they did not wear gloves to open the door and while in the room.
Who was responsible for their safekeeping?
    Who knew where they were?
    Who had access to them?
Was only one in charge of them or more than one?
Who held the key to where the guns were kept?

    • STAR
      October 7, 2016

even if we have all the answers to the questions .. no one will be held accountable.. that is the norm here…but where there is no justice there is no peace…we are slowly becoming a lawless place

  16. Tell the Truth
    October 5, 2016

All of them are under scrutiny. Consider, they are all looking at each other with distrust. If I were in their situation I would feel the same.
It must make them feel tense and uncomfortable. I am certain all are not responsible for this disappearance. However who did it?
    Who stole the guns?
    Why were they stolen?
What do they plan to do with them?
Will they be sold to someone or some people?
What will they eventually be used for? The thought of this, God forbid.
The police authorities have grave reason for concern. Know that God knows the culprit, who took the guns and who has them. You are already caught by Him.
    Bring them back!

  21. Wher do we go from here?
    October 5, 2016

This is just another reason why citizens of Dominica CANNOT trust and support the police. No one respects them. No wonder even today high school children displays their lack of respect for officers when they attacked a female officer in the city in broad day light. Under Skerrit their reputation has gone low down to the bottom and I don’t seeing getting better. I mean how can anyone respect them when security minister said they are incompetent? Y trust them when they can sweep over $40K by mistake and get a promotion in return? How do we trust them when one makes it his job to call all talking points attacking the opposition, and then gets rewarded with a promotion? Y trust them when they leaked a minors confession and after investigation is our boy, and that kills everything? Y trust them when Bobbles pointed an unlicensed gun at a person and after the said gun was taken by the police, somehow found it’s way in the hand of bobbles in secret? Their investigation means nothing

  22. October 5, 2016

this a very serious situation .these fire arms could end up in the wrong hands and the police or innocent members of the public could become victims. the image and the integrity of the force is at stake but these kind of things will always happen in the force because they are selective about who and what they investigate also the outcome of several investigation into wrong doings are kept hush- hush and the culprits seems to be the ones getting promoted.

They need to weed out these criminals they have in police uniform, it is embarrassing to the force and the chief, heads must roll, but most of all we have to recover these firearms and the criminals who stole them, they most likely will end up in the hands of criminals, there are cpl, sgt, insp, asp supt, firearm always are secure, there must be some sort of sign inn and out, its not hard to find who stole these firearms, this is bad, really bad, these criminals in police uniform must be arrested and charge, and when found guilty sent to prison, this must not be tolerated, i am ashamed of these officer or officers, who did this, its not a criminal from the street, they have no access to police weapon or the armory, its sickening now man.

I have repeated over and over that dominica police officers are very corrupted…here is a proof of it…all police officers should never have access to guns in a police station;each time a gun is taken off the police name should be written down ;the time ,date and the same name should be the one putting it back in place;there should be one person who is responsible for delivering weapons to others;accessing these weapons should not be by ever one…Dominica police force needs a cleaning up…by the way DNO allow what I am writing to be published please….false police reports are given to criminals who have done serious crimes to go overseas..for cash in hand..

I am sick and tired of hearing about Police misconduct in Dominica. Many crimes have been committed with guns in Dominica this year alone! So Mr. Carbon we need to know when, where, and how these weapons were stolen and which police men or women took them! I know I am saying the obvious but too many times we see Labor Party friends get away with the most serious of crimes in Dominica.

First of all the safe keeping of weapons in Police stations around Dominica is too slack. Some stations do not have a metal safe with working locks in which to put the weapons.
Secondly there are few stations with registers to log outgoing and incoming duty weapons.
Thirdly too much interference by political figures messing with Police officers to do illegal things that police would not normally do.
Forth thing I have to say is that these pistols are in the hands of politicians and or their families or friends.
Fifth , everything that is happening in Police Affairs is Politically motivated. When there is too much Politics in Policing this is the kind of results we get.
How long have these pistols been missing and was it from the armory or from a specialized Unit?
