Two men have been charged following the seizure of a quantity of marijuana south of Dominica.

Anthony Ackie of Lagoon, Portsmouth and Raphael Pompey from St. Vincent are now facing charges of possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply 307,812 grams of cannabis, importation of cannabis, possession of cannabis resin (hashish), possession with intent to supply 2,724 grams of cannabis resin and importation of cannabis resin.

They appeared before a Roseau magistrate on April 17, 2014 and were remanded in custody.

The illegal substances were seized on Wednesday (April 16) during anti-drug operations conducted by members of the Drug Squad and Coast Guard.

During the operation an open keel boat, named ‘Slick’ with registration number J7-178-PMH and powered by 75 and 85 horse power engines, was also seized.

You know, I have resided in Canada for a number of years. Not once have I met anyone who traffics in illegal drugs or other criminal activities.(Simple the Truth)

I think perhaps you might be in isolation, or you just do not go among certain people in certain circles. You need to know that there are Dominicans who are involved in the trafficking of drugs in Canada, some are even in jail right now because of that.

The last time I visited Canada, someone told me of an incident which I will not mention, because the person involve I know, I will not even say where in Dominica the person is from, except I will tell you if you own a motor vehicle, and any Dominican, or Canadian ask you to let them borrow (use) your car to go even around the block from your house, you had better be very careful because you might find your car is involved in the smuggling, or trafficking of drugs!

Do you know how many Dominicans sitting in jail serving time for dealing in drugs in America, and Canada?

I know but I doh talking eh, cause ah fraid Carl oui!

Ok that looks like the mother load there…..too much but I do not beieve ppl should be persecuted the way SIMPLY THE TRUTH and you guys on here have been doing…in a failing economy the production and sale of “illegal” drugs will increase. Where there is weed cocai ne will follow is not a true statement either. It is more likely that a prescribed drug like hard core pills will lead to cocaine use…Weed is a depressant and does not ignite as much violence as we want ppl to believe. Guy too much! You were trying to make too much of a big score at once. However a little weed never hurt no body…Police your children and understand it is not for growing minds but;..ya make a small quantity in possession legal.

It’s because St.Vincent has preety much decriminalized marijuana. They do not have a stupid task force/squad dedicated and paid tax payers money just to eradicate marijuana and persecute marijuana smokers 24/7 as in Dominica. Smart, they save money, and do not jail their youngsters for marijuana at our rate and still do not have as high crime and cocaine as Dominica. Figure that one out.

“This is not a beauty contest,,,,the majority of black people do not have a fine nose or a long straight nose…these two men are dark skin men and more again the work under the sun…none the less there are men out there that are dressed in suit and tie that are much uglier than these men”(GB).

I am very ashamed to read the comments in the quote above! As soon as something violent or traumatic happens in our country, all the hypocrites jumps out of their skin, talking about we need to pray; but who are many of those people praying to?

I hear lots of people asking what nonsense is he talking about now: I am talking about the same God Jehovah who created all of us, although we are not all his children, it he the same God who created the two men you people has termed ugly. They are humans created by God; so how can one pray to the God, who’s creation you are ridiculing, in that case you are ridiculing God, because they are of his creation!

The body we see is not the person, the body of flesh is simply the house the sprit and soul of man dwells in until the last breath is taken, the body is nothing more than dirt, came from the dirt to which it must return. While the sprit and soul returns to the creator. I am going to mess up the mind of somebody right now, I will her he is pretending to know it all, but I am going to blow somebody mind; and unless you have a better theory than I have do not even try to debate with me.

All Blacks does not have flat or pointed nose, neither do all white have straight or pointed nose, it would appear to me that there is equality in this case. We have discovered over the centuries, it must be the plan of God, that depending on where life settled, he gave the shape of the nose to suite the climate.

In that people inhabiting extremely hot climate, a long, straight, and pointed nose was inherited so that when breathing, the air breath in cools the air before it gets into the lungs, now for some reason or the other people with short, and flat nose serves a similar purpose in that the short flat nose is required to allow the cold air warm a bit before entering the lungs.

I am not going to take this any further, since I do not intend to have to detail any explanation; but I think anybody who considers another person ignorant, is nothing more than a fool, God created man in his image and likeness. Perhaps the Church should lecture in that rather than talking crap about holy week, and Easter.

“In that people inhabiting extremely hot climate, a long, straight, and pointed nose was inherited so that when breathing, the air breath in cools the air before it gets into the lungs,”

Okay, let me see if I can correct that:

The long and pointed nose serves the purpose of cooling the hot air before it reaches into the lungs. The flat and short nose allows a certain amount of warm air to enter the lungs, okay; I am not about to detail it scientifically, since it would become so technical, the ordinary mind may not come close to understand it.

I will say this though, all life derive from the same gene, and life itself originates in Namibia, in Africa, so wherever living humans are found there life originate in Africa; be reminded that no matter how white you find a person, they came from a black person, and that is documented there is a trace of all humans in DNA samples extracted from the oldest exoskeleton found, and is referred in modern Biology teaching as “Eve.”

Not: there would be no humans living on the European continent if people had not migrated to Europe thousands of years ago, and I will quite before I go into adaptation, and survival of the fittest.

Where did this Dominican meet with the Vincentian and vice versa? Where were they residing and where did they get the illegal drugs from, the place of origin?
It is not the first time that Dominicans and those of other islands transport illegal drugs to D/ca and were caught. These people should never be bailed. They should be kept in detention and/or in prison until the case is called.
There are too many criminals of every sort who are bailed out and are walking the streets of Dominica, unsupervised. This is dangerous for especially law-abiding nationals. If they are bailed, they should be kept under surveillance.

You are one, rude and uncouth person, one of those who uphold criminals and cause them to continue to ply their trade, creating havoc in the land and placing fear into nationals. Dominica did not experience this in former years. They have placed a curse on Dominica.
You must be one who was bailed out including people whom you know. Too bad for you. You will not prevent me from standing up for the truth, for nationals who are law-abiding that they might live in happiness, peace, harmony and freedom including visitors.
Depending on your comments, the police should arrest you and also keep you under surveillance. DNO should not even have posted your comments which serve no useful purpose. Yes, criminals meet criminals. They know each other. They seek each other out. Birds of a feather flock together. Show me your friends and I will show you who you are.
You know, I have resided in Canada for a number of years. Not once have I met anyone who traffics in illegal drugs or other criminal activities. None have ever approached me to ply their trade. If they did, I would simply ignore them. It may be that the good Lord and my Guardian Angel have protected me from such people. You see, I do not interfere with such people. Thanks be to God. Who knows in this country, one or a few could have said hello to me as I go about my business but none approached me. It may be that they can see who I am and the type of person I am. I must also state, thanks to my parents’ upbringing, my associates and the environment I resided in, in Dominica. Those whom I associate with, family and friends do not smoke whatsoever. What good, law-abiding citizens we are, an asset to this country of Canada as others as us. We have a clean slate/record.
Criminals do not care two hoots about anyone but themselves and the amount of money they stand to gain. This is why when caught, they should be appropriately dealt with and by incarcerating them. They give the police more work which cost taxpayers money. They are a menace to society and to be feared. Dominica is not safer with them at large. They could have done better with their life but prefer to be non-law abiding people.
I pray, may God keep our beautiful island free of evil, eradicate it and protect all law-abiding nationals no exception the children/youths. In Jesus Name I pray.

This is for the police authorities. They are given the mandate to search for them and arrest them. Every department and politician has his/her obligation to fulfill. Then they report to the office of the Prime Minister. This is how it is done in other countries. I expect no exception in Dominica.

If man was to start smoking lemon grass would they make it illegal and wipe if of the face of Dominica. Dominica get serious and start making money on the herb like the us and Holland and the rest. I do not smoke but i know so much more persons die as a result of alcohol use than that of weed so as a country we should start looking at replacing banana with the most valuable herb. The banana industry is now plague by black sigartoka and citrus by fruit flies. non of that problem with the herb. lets fight alcohol and cocaine, they are processed but weed is all natural.

Good reason why Marijuana needs to be legalized or decriminalized in Dominica. At least like in St. Vincent there would be no need for it to be imported here. What law is this, no witnesses needed, but the law intended to protect Dominicans against excessive noise is totally disregarded by police who claim …duh… we need witnesses?? Well legalize Marijuana in Dominica and stop this madness.

    • Joe
      April 20, 2014

I totally agree with you Affa, it’s time to legalize Marijuana.
One of the main reasons that weed is illegal in D/ca is because the US makes demands on these island nations to make weed illegal. The US turns around and allows marijuana to be legal in California, Colorado, Washington etc. because of the many benefits of marijuana being legal.

They are setting up and Institute to study the medical uses of Marijuana in Jamaica. There is very good reason. The medicinal properties of the plant are just beginning to be known. Dominica can be ahead of the trend, develop new strains and prosper from it or it can hold on to a failed policy. Legalize this plant. Farmers here can make money .and smugglers will go broke.

 You make me laugh. I did not give you thumbs down nor thumbs up. You are too funny.
Anyway, we never call people ugly and state he will go to Hell because of his ugliness which is why you got so many thumbs down. I could not help but think he looked ugly and what a face I would fear. :)
It is what is imbedded in his heart which projects unto his face, a non law-abiding person who obviously defies the Law, could not get about it and live according to what he can get out of life and may do anything to get it. In this case, such a person is to be feared.
Our God is not concerned with outward beauty and ugliness. I do not know why but there is a reason for everything. God is concerned with the heart and what is imbedded in it.
I read where Our Lord and Our Lady said to different visionaries, “I will make you beautiful”; not in features but in your heart which will project itself unto the face.
You will note how some people look radiant and are always smiling of all. It is not that they have everything and are not in need of but that they have the blessing and grace of God by paying him homage and performing acts of love for others in Jesus Name. Try it and you will experience it if you have not yet experienced it.
He may not go to Hell and not because he is ugly. :) Our good, loving, compassionate, merciful, patient and forgiving God is a God of many chances. If he turns to God, repents with always a humble and contrite heart and makes penance as a means of reparation, God will forgive him.
Criminals also deprive themselves of the blessing and grace of God. If they, all criminals, know what is good for them, they will turn to God and live a happy and peaceful life. Money is not all and money does not always make people happy and buy happiness; very seldom. If it is utilized properly, fruitfully to help others, money will make us happy. However, this will be the work of God. God bless you!
