More charges in connection with Tarish Pit shooting

Two other individuals have been charged in relation to a recent Tarish Pit shooting incident which left one man injured.

Kessler Alcendor of Goodwill and Jess Alexander of Gutter Village were slapped with several joint and individual charges on Wednesday. Shermanie Peters, who was also charged with three other men in connection with the matter last week, received new charges with Alcendor and Alexander when they appeared before a Roseau magistrate.

Over six charges were brought yesterday, which include three possession of a 12-gauge shot gun charges and the possession of two 12 gauge shot gun spent shells.

Alcendor was individually charged with wounding Troy Parker and discharging a Baretta 12-gauge shot gun within 50 yards of the dwelling home of Jullian Mitchel of Tarish Pit. Both he and Alexander were additionally hit with a possession of ammunition charge. The men all pleaded not guilty.

The defendants’ bail was denied following a request from the prosecution for more time to continue investigations into the matter as other weapons and individuals were being sought. The state argued that if released the men would interfere with witnesses and investigations into the matter.

Lawyer for Alcendor and Alexander, Bernard Wiltshire impressed upon the court however, to grant his clients bail. He said that some level of evidence must be brought to the court to prove that his clients will interfere. He said bail should be granted with strict conditions in order to curb any of them meddling with investigations.

In response Magistrate Candia George drew attention to the increase in gun-related crimes in recent times. “I have to look at all the surrounding circumstances. It is a festive season, these things have people in fear,” she stated before denying bail which will be revisited after the holidays.

Meanwhile Wiltshire said his clients rights had been violated as they had been in custody longer than the law permits.

The magistrate advised him to deal with the matter in the appropriate forum.

Alton Eusebe of La Plaine, Shermanie Peter of Goodwill, Marvin Roberts of Mahaut and Mandella Gordon of Goodwill were slapped with a number of firearm and drug-related offenses when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Evelina Baptiste on Friday.

The charges were: possession of a 12-gauge shot gun without the appropriate license, possession of 11 live rounds of 12-guage shot gun ammunition, the possession of a prohibited sawed off 12-gauge shot gun, possession of cannabis, and possession of 11 rounds of live 12-gauge shot gun ammunition on the La Plaine Public Road without a license (Alton Eusebe).

Well my dear people, we had better begin to wake up from slumber and force the politicians to face up to the responsibilities for which they were elected!! It is about time that we see these guys introducing changes to the law which will curb this violence and introduction of high powered, deadly weapons into our lovely homeland!!!!! We need to deal with it now before it gets too engrained in our society. Get them to move now!!!!!!Save Dominica and make it an example to others. One love

      @ Dexter

If I were you I would not laugh or instigate it. You know the saying, “He who laughs last laughs best.” Furthermore, no one knows what will happen to them in the future. These people went astray. They may not have received proper parenting nurturing and discipline. There are times we need to get to the root of the matter. They need to be rehabilitated. God gives second chances and even more. I hope that they will receive this chance and rehabilitation.
While I feel sorry for the victims, those who commit crimes need to be pitied as they receive adequate punishment and must pay for their crimes.
