Two get $250,000 bail in alleged Jewellers International robbery

Elrado Ducreay and Craig Christian, who were charged with conspiracy to rob Jewellers International, located in Fort Young Hotel, were granted bail on Monday by Magistrate Bernard Pacquette.

The police prosecution did not object to bail.

The two have been on remand for over two months after bail was denied in the matter.

On Monday, the prosecution told the court that they were not objecting to bail for the two men but requested that it be set at EC$500,000, that they are subjected to strict reporting conditions, they surrender all travel documents and do not interfere with any witnesses in the matter.

But Peter Alleyne, lawyer for Ducreay told the court that the amount was “way too high” and that others in the matter were granted bail at $250,000.

The magistrate agreed and fixed the sum at $250,000.

Joshua Francis is lawyer for Christian. His mother Fanny Auguiste and her cousin Ashworth Auguiste served as sureties for him.

Christian is to report every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to the Salybia Police Station, surrender his travel documents, not to leave the State without permission from the court and not to interfere with witnesses.

The same conditions apply to Ducreay. His mother, Joyce Phillip, and her brother Albert Peter Tyson stood as sureties.

The trial is set for October 31, 2016.

Some 45 Rolex watches, valued at over $1.8-million, were allegedly stolen in the robbery, which took place on May 21, 2016.

Not ridiculous at all. You are! It is not judging and sentencing. They are simply stating the truth.
Who all you refer to you? I suppose you should speak for yourself and those whom you know.

I wondered about that. Those 45 Rolex watches, were just sitting outside waiting to be stolen? or were they in a safe. Have anyone been to a place where they sell these things…they are brought out one by one to the intended customer.

You are wrong and must never assume things. You obviously have never visited that store but their Rolex watches were always on display, just like other well known brands. This is not the Bronx you are talking about.

The watches have not been found and they are out on bail. They should kept in prison until the watches are found, if they are never found. Keep them there. They do not deserve to be out in the public arena. Furthermore, they were masked and stole at gunpoint. They are not free. Keep them under surveillance.

They should be kept in jail? Wicked!! When the real white color criminals committing all sorts of crimes, I don’t need to list them again, we all know the crimes, like those being committed by our Dominican wicked politicians, our police refuse to investigate those crimes; and when the culprits are discovered they still go scott free because of compromise. We too wicked in this country. First of all I don’t believe any Rolex watches were stolen, how come we can’t find one watch by now. So my honest opinion, they should ALL go scott free until our white color criminals are brought to justice. And for those Judges waiting to send them up, they better sentence the white color criminals first. Machandstay. There is no justice in this country, poor people children alone should go jail, I don’t agree with that.

You have a severe problem. You are unfair and not on the side of justice. Are you related to the criminals?
Stick to the issue and point of the matter! The subject is bail for criminals who wore masks and robbed at gun point. I reiterate they should not have been bailed. In addition the watches have yet to be found.
If they were obstructed, they would have utilized the guns. A murder or murders could have occurred.

Yes it is alleged that these guys stole 45 Rolex Watches, valued at $1.8 Million; ok!
I shop at Jewelers International, I bought all my watches from them. Have anyone
else shop there? I am sure many of you do, for those of you who do, have you ever
gone there and seen more than 20 of any brand of watch on display? How in Gods
name did the guys manage to find 45 watches, Rolex at that one of the most expensive brand watches on planet Earth on Display at Jewelers International? Do they even Stock that many Rolex Watches? It\’s not like these a watches that sell every day or even every week or month.

    Just Thinking……

To be honest.. 45 rolex watches is a real questionable number

    • Shameless
      August 29, 2016

Very valid point. Some insurance investigator will definitely ask the same question but when rolex’s are purchased by merchants or individuals receipts and traceable documents are available in case authorities need it. Also, it would be fool hardy for any merchant to put 45 Rolex watches on display so your argument in this case is flawed.

      Always Assertive!

    • Iamanidiot
      August 30, 2016

I’m struggling to get your point.

Its possible they have 10 of one watch so… do they need to put 10 of the same watch on display?

Secondly, You said you’ve never seen more than 20 watches right? So probably there is one on display and one under the counter that they sell you? cause I dont think you’re sold the one on display.
      So that’s already 40(20*2)

Maybe they were in a safe somewhere and the robbers say “Open the safe and give me everything”?
So its not like they were robbing a candy store and found 45 Rolex Watches, they WENT to a Rolex store and found 45 Rolex watches.

So if a Jewelry store is robbed you’re gonna ask, how comes they got 100 chains? and if auto trade is robbed you’re gonna ask…how comes they got 10 cars?

Im not sure why you’re surprised that they got a large number of watches.

      Just thinking..

      Thinking out Lord:

You are so hitting the nail on the head :!:

As a former licensed private investigator under the Ontario Provincial Police (Lic. No. 142306) this story raises red flags on my screen. It is like waving a red blanket in front of a bull.

Why would the store have a supply of Rolex Watches like this in stock :?:

If they did have them in stock why would they not be secured in a vault :?:

Was it the decision of one person alone to have this many in stock :?: If so, who :?: Did anybody else know about this supply in the store :?: If so, who :?:

Was this leaked to anybody outside the store :?: If so who :?:

Now the real questions. Were these watches insured :?: Has a claim been filed :?:

This smacks of a you-know-what job.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

As an investigator, you should know they could have asked for a certain type and were shown them, out of a vault. Then stole them.
I am certain what the proprietor reported to the police is more than we are aware of. Food for thought.

    • Observer
      August 30, 2016

Well… I actually sat down in the court to listen to the bail hearing… Inspector Laurent claimed that about 15 minutes after the robbery took place he was at the scene. he found two showcases with broken glasses from where the robbers took the watches and they were both EMPTY. When the prosecutor (Laudat) asked him how did he arrive at the number of missing watches he said an employee gave him a document listing 45 Rolex watches. However, pictures taken from the crime scene show 2 broken showcases with some watches still inside and some watches on the floor.

Pretty fast that only 15 from when the crime happened to when the police arrived that they had already checked and accounted for all the watches and prepared a document listing 45 Rolex watches.

and how convenient that on the day of the robbery none of Jewellers cameras were not working so they could only access footage from Garraway Hotel…..WOW just WOW!!!

    • Tell the Facts
      August 30, 2016

Utilize your common sense if you have any. Criminals know the tricks of the trade. They are smarter than you in this respect. Therefore none of you should question how many Rolex watches. They may not have seen what they are looking for and asked if there were more that they could see and were shown them.

      • Observer

Well the facts from the hearing were:

        1. The didn’t enter the vault,
        2. The robbers only stole from 2 showcases
        3. The 2 men above did not commit the robbery, they were arrested for conspiracy.
