Two Mahaut men await grievous bodily harm trial set for June

One Mahaut man has been bailed in the sum of $10, 000, while another remanded for the next seven days until he gets someone to secure his bail, after being charged for  allegedly causing grievous bodily harm to each other last week.

Fifty-two-year-old Clinton Julien and Link Luke, 23, were read their charges when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Evelina Baptiste this morning. They were not allowed to plea since the matters are indictable, to be tried at the High Court of Justice, following a preliminary inquiry.

Both defendants had injuries to their bodies. Julien wore a cast on his left hand with minor cuts to his head, while Luke appeared to have a stitched up wound on the upper left side of head and a plaster on the right side of his neck, just above his shoulder.

Julien was released on a $10,000 bail sum with his step-mother as surety, while his preliminary inquiry was set to June 22, 2010.

Bail was opened to Luke, but no surety appeared to stand for him. He was remanded for the next seven days or until he gets a surety.

His trial was also adjourned to June 22, 2010.

According to the charges, the alleged incident took place on February 23, 2010 in Mahaut.
