Two shot in Grand Bay during Fete Isidore

shootingInvestigations have commenced into an alleged shooting incident in Grand Bay which has left two men nursing gunshot wounds.

According to Police PRO, Acting Inspector Pellam Jno Baptiste, the incident occurred at about 1:00am on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Bubbles.

The Feast of St. Isidore was being celebrated in Grand Bay during that time.

“Mc Garvin Peters, of Roseau, sustained a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen, and Baclet Allan, a French national of Guadeloupe, sustained a gunshot wound to his lower back,” Jno Baptiste said.

The injured men were subsequently transported to the Grand Bay Health Centre, where they received medical attention, before being transferred to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).

Upon arrival, they were examined by a medical doctor, and admitted.

Investigations are ongoing.

Why are Grand Bay people so violent?

    • Affa
      May 18, 2016

No more violent than Roseau people.
They have found headless body in Roseau river, obeah related deaths, a simple carnival cannot pass in Roseau without violent death in Roseau, and countless more I won’t go on. I still love the Roseau carnival despite the violence. It’s always a few idiots in Roseau like the ones that came from elsewhere and brought their gun with them to Grandbay, hence your stupid misplaced comment.

Grandbay is a very nice community with good, hardworking and ambitious people. I have been to Grandbay on numerous visits and in every instance I was welcomed and embraced by the good people of that lovely village. On one occasion I sat and played dominoes with a group of men on the “Lalay”, a pot of fish and provision was on the fire nearby, in short time the pot was placed on the table and everyone served themselves. It was a very heartwarming and delicious meal. Since then, I have met and befriended many more “Grandbayrians” who proved to be very kind, courteous and welcoming. It is, therefore, difficult for me to attribute this shooting incident to the Grandbay Community and its good Citizens. This shooting incident should be blamed on the INDIVIDUAL(S) who decided to bring a deadly weapon to what has always been a peaceful and festive celebration. Ignorance and stupidity like this can be found in ANY village and during ANY event. Don’t blame Grandbay!!!

Hey Labor,,,, on their behalf, thanks for the kind words but no need to be too patronizing, Grandbay people can handle the negativity. Even the authorities have been in on this negativity. Remember police higher-ups used to use transferring officers to grand Bay as punishment. They have endured and survived a lot of negativity. After all Grand Bay has the good, the bad and The ugly. In this case it’s outsiders that had their beef with each other.

Fete Isidore is not a Christian Festival anyway. Leviticus 22 will tell you the Feasts we should celebrate so hence other feats are from our oppressors and are demonic.

Unfortunate but part of life. Mc Garvin wasn’t a saint and sadly what we engage in within our lifetime will determine how we live our lives. I can’t feel sorry for him. You live by the sword you die by the sword.

I read all the comments thus far, and whereas the commentators are either defending or condemning Grand Bay. Everyone fail to acknowledge that Grand Bay is in Dominica, it is a part of Dominica, and any effect crime has on Grand Bay, has the same effect on all of Dominica.

    Interestingly I found this comment:

“Do you understand how busy the police and authorities are with marijuana in Dominica, when do they get the time and resources to deal with guns on the island?”

That to me only shows how confounded the mind of some people are. The job of the police is to deal with crime, capture the culprits and bring them to justice. If you concentrate on one form of crime, and ignore the other what difference will it make?

The rhetoric of the anonymous is clear: if the police is called to investigate a murder, a shipment of marijuana, since marijuana takes precedence of all else, I supposed the police should simply ignore the murderer, and keep hunting down the dope! How silly!

We had 9 Isidore Choffay which went extremely well. So why thinks we Grand Bay people was involved. For the ignorant St. Isidore was a hard working farmer. So we celebrate church service in grand style. Just Luke everything thing else it is used to earn income therefore the socialization. But don’t be too ignorant. We farmers past and present have been celebrating and will continue. Bear in mind the Catholic Church is not in favor of we using the name of Isidore for business. But we celebrate in our own way. Never was there any form of violence in the past during our feast. And for those who say they never come to Grand Bay for that purpose and knows that we treat strangers bad are just IDIOT’S

Be broadminded. All Grand Bay people are not one and the same. There are always a few bad eggs in every village, town, city, country, every society. These are the ones who cause all the trouble. It is too bad but this is the way it is at present anyway.

really ?? execution for shooting someone. Do you know the circumstances why that person was shot. If someone picks up a gun and shoots people, unless they are criminally insane then there must be a reason. But you wont inderstand that concept so what is the point in explaning it to you anyway .

  23. Face the Facts
    May 17, 2016

What was the reason for this shooting? What caused it? What a shame people cannot attend a function without being shot and at a time as that, when they are enjoying a religious celebration. There is no excuse for shooting people!
Imagine a visitor was also shot. There is no need to have guns in Dominica, unless nationals are hunting wild animals with a licensed gun.
Some people have unlicensed guns. These guns must be eradicated from Dominica.
This is the type of demonstrations Dominicans must organize to remove those guns from Dominica and prevent them from entering into the country. It is time to do something about that.
Those who injure and murder with especially guns must face and receive the full brunt of the Law. No pity for them!
You hear me attorneys who successfully defend them and ask for leniency?
Criminals are not interested in the happiness of their fellow people. Types as these should be incarcerated for life, if not executed.

Nothing is impossible. The police have a job to do, to also protect nationals. Granted, they cannot be everywhere at the same time. However, some must be reserved to quickly assist to perform other responsibilities.
Was it not recently that additional police officers were being recruited?
It would be a good idea to organize a meeting, to discuss this issue of guns in Dominica.
It is difficult for me to comprehend that so many people have guns in Dominica. The guns came from somewhere. They were transported to Dominica. How and by whom? How many people? How did they escape the scrutiny of the officers at the airport and seaport?
They check travelers for bringing in and leaving with illegal items, even confiscating them. What about the guns? How did they escape them? These are the questions to put forth to Law Enforcement, the government.
When nationals and visitors are shot, injured and murdered, these are serious matters and to immediately attend to.

      • Face the Facts
        May 19, 2016
