UPDATE: Death in Castle Bruce

The victim
Julius Joseph

Residents of Castle Bruce woke up this morning (Tuesday) to the shocking news of what appears to be an overnight killing in their community.

Police have identify the victim as 74-year-old Julius Joseph, better known as Editor of Castle Bruce.

Police PRO, Inspector John Carbon, said Joseph’s body was found around 5:45 am on Tuesday lying motionless on the Castle Bruce public road in the vicinity of his house.

Inspector Carbon said there were wounds to Joseph’s chest and back and he was pronounced dead on the scene by a district medical officer.

The body was transported to the Princess Margaret Hospital mortuary pending a post mortem examination.

A coroner’s inquest will be convened and investigations are continuing, Inspector Carbon said.

This is my cousin, I am also from Castle Bruce. I think this is an aweful situation. I also think this is not the time to be bashing each other. we should really be forcused on more prayer for the people of Dominica, and the family. We know these are end of times, and we need to get our hearts and minds in order.

It hurts that yet another national is murdered. Just when I think that all is quiet in DA, I read of this sad news. All nationals should mourn that yet another national, one of theirs has been murdered. For God’s sake he was 74 years of age! Why did you, the murderer, not allow him to spend the rest of his days in peace? Even though you are caught and I hope you will, God will get you for that in his time.
My heartfelt sympathy to his family. Keep up the faith in God knowing that Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “Vengeance is Mine. I will repay.”
May his soul rest in peace. Amen.

Ok this is getting a bit ridiculous now. Crime needs to be seriously addressed. We are too small of an island for crime to be occurring so frequently!!!! Stuff gets on trip advisor and other tourism websites about Da. I came accross a website the other day which had Dca as # 24 in world of countries with highest crime per capita last yr. In other words our island is too small for all this crime! This affects tourism, the economy, the people, the country as a whole!pi So stop the madness! We used to be one of the safest places to visit in the world! What is up with all this sensless crime! And what are we going to do about it!?!

    May 14, 2013

Since Dominica become flooded with all these lawyers, crime has become a joke for these criminals. You know why? Because they can always get these blood sucking money hawks to defend them. How else would they make their money and survive in a small Island like Dominica? That’s why the government should bring back the death penalty.

  12. May 14, 2013

Some comments are really not worth posting nor reading. A crime was committed, the victim’s family are grieving. A simple word of sympathy should suffice.

May the victim’s soul Rest In Peace, and may the perpetrator be brought to justice. We do have LAWS, it may not be what we expect but justice will prevail.

This is a very sad time for our family so some of you spectators need to know your places. Do any of you call every family member twice a day? morning and evening checking on everyone in case of situations like these? the family is spread all across the world, some with very hectic lives. Family is family and the love is always there no matter how often we speak or see each other. Please don’t intrude at a time like this with your silly comments, thank you.

As Dominicans most of us know Andrew and the Armour family. We love them and we respect them. Most of the families are entrepreneurs and create employment for a lot of Dominicans. We are all saddened by the tragic accident. But remember the victim was a daughter. She had a father, a mother and maybe brothers and sisters, So where as we demonstrate our support for Andrew we have to show some empathy for the family who lost a daughter. And we must take into consideration the the young lady was an American where culture and traditions are different. If this accident had occurred in America, the captain of the boat would have been arrested and there would have been lawsuits. So its not surprising that an American family is making similar demands on the Dominican authorities. This is a very serious case and I hope Andrew can get in touch with his cousin Reginald Armour Jr in Trinidad for some guidance and assistance, no disrespect to Mrs Dyer.

We have failed to adhere to the greatest commandment, which is “Love Thy Neighbor As Thyself,” instead we are very envious of each other. We are filled with hate and anger, hence, the increased crimes. We can only take measures to alleviate the problem, realistically, it wont be keradicated. We must stop the blame game, instead, work in collaboration to tackle the ills of society. The court needs to penalize the perpetrators severely in order to deter such heinous actions. To the family of the deceased, may you find comfort in the Almighty!

I condemn all killings for whatever reason. No one has a right to take anyone’s life. However when these things happen don’t turn them into politics. Seek ways in which we all can put our efforts together to remedy the situation. In this case, help the police to help us. Say what you know. It may be mine or yours tommorrow. “No Law not even the Constitution”, that has left, a subliminal message in the minds of most of the people, especially those who don’t have much regard for the law, Dominican’s we live in a lawless country, in the minds of most of our citizens ,just observe, how people park, in Roseau, and tell me, if the common man has any regards for the LAWS of the land.

    • wtf
      May 14, 2013

      • Justice and Truth
        May 15, 2013

USA is correct. I reside in Canada. It is strange with all the crimes/murders which occur here I feel safer here than if I were in Dominica. Reason is Dominica is a small country where everyone should love and care for each other. Some of them are really lawless which means they defy the Law. They appear not to be afraid of the police officers. Such people care not about the Law and general regulations. They need to be trained in all forms of courtesy for their fellow people.
Never in our lifetime spent in DA were there so many murders and other crimes and some big-time ones. Dominica, at that time, was devoid of murders and such crimes. It is a severe problem. Something has to be done to teach people that lives are precious, given to us by God. Therefore we must do all we can to preserve it. Only yesterday I heard on U.S. Catholic Radio that, “A violation against a human life is a violation against God.”
Those who murder do not give it a thought that they stand a good chance of going to Hell for we should know the Fifth Commandment of God: Thou Shalt Not Kill.”
The devil has the souls of those who murder and harm another in whatever manner, our brother and sister in Jesus Christ.

I was informed that young boys are holding their peers and beating them up in town demanding cash from them and taking their cell phones it happened to about five young boys in town the night of the jam on bay front for the end of school/college. Can you imagine that the police is ineffective in dealing with such crime from small criminals in the making, allowing this to continue at every young people’s gathering. parents wake up and start the protest for a kinder generation.

    • Bounty
      May 14, 2013

looking 2, you do mean “parents wake up and start the training (not protest) for a kinder generation.”

Let us stop blaming others. Police cannot be everywhere and in everyone’s mind. They do not have all-seeing eyes. Like every other human being, a crime can be carried right next to them and they not see. The crime can even be committed against them.

We the parents must face up to the responsibilities of training our children. police cannot do that. The men and women who leave/abandon their children to their own devices or show them bad examples are creating the hooligans among us directly or indirectly. Not Skerrit nor police doing that.
