Xavier Bonhomme, public prosecutor in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, has denied some media reports that a Dominican teenager , who allegedly stabbed another teen on the French island, has been arrested.

At a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, he said the teen is still on the run and is being sought by the police. Some media reports had indicated he was under arrest.

Reports are that the 15-year-old stabbed another teen to death with either a pair of scissors or a knife in Abymes on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at around 5:45 pm.

The reports further stated that Yohann Equinoxe was stabbed multiple times after classes when he was on his way home. The attacker fled the scene. A phone was allegedly involved in the incident.

France-Antilles reporter, Boris Colombet, said Bonhomme told reporters the alleged perpetrator was identified hours after the incident.

Bonhomme revealed that investigations for voluntary manslaughter, together with attempted theft with a weapon, has been opened against the teenager. If found guilty, he faces a sentence of life behind bars.

Colombet said Bonhomme told reporters that the suspect has a clean criminal record and when asked if he could flee to Dominica, Bonhomme stated that the boy has strong family ties in Guadeloupe.

The suspect was born in Dominica August 2, 2001.

It has also been reported that a demonstration was held near the school where the Yohann Equinoxe was stabbed.

    September 14, 2016

He had a clean record? Why was he carrying a weapon which could injure or kill someone?
Why all of a sudden he tried to steal his victim’s phone and stabbed him in such a manner to death?
If convicted he could spend life behind bars, for trying to steal a phone and for murder because the young man refused to give it to him. Was it worth it? At a young age his life is practically finished.
I hope while he is incarcerated and after the case is called, he is remorseful and repents of his crimes.
God is forgiving, if done in a humble and contrite heart. It requires genuine worship, prayer, penance and sacrifice.

Imagine minding your business and someone comes up to you, demands your phone, you refuse and are stabbed to death. The victim thought he had a full life ahead of him and note what occurred to him. His family and friends are now mourning his loss. It is so sad.
He is a D/can in Guadeloupe. Was he residing there and with whom? Attending school there or not?
This is a case of a young man one could say the devil spurred him on and made him do it. I wonder, has he been living a life of crime at his young age to have done that to the young man?
What could have been in his head that he got so violent to the point of stabbing his victim relentlessly and causing his death? Did he not expect he would be caught?
He has to answer to the Court. If ever released, he will be deported to D/ca. What will become of him as he grows older? Will he continue a life of crime? This is what D/ca is faced with when its nationals are deported back.
    D/can authorities beware.

  12. I have been sexually abused since 8 years
    September 14, 2016

I travel to guadeloupe, and the Dominican i meet that good, i only meet them on the boat, however the ones i meet in the street is rotten.. Dominica please be guided some of the crime happening in Dominica now is link to these same criminal group, committing crimes in Guadeloupe..

we have extradition treaty with the U.S and not with the french, why not?

    • If you been abuse sexually from the age of eight years old, I see the reason why your English vocabulary is so poor to name yourself “I have been sexually abuse since 8 years” is stupid so I would like to suggest yo seek some psychological, and some psychiatric counseling!

Which one of your relatives sexually abused you, because at age eight years old you should be nurtured under your parents care, and the only way that could happen to you, is if you were out in the streets, or someone in the home where a family member raped and victimize you!

  13. September 14, 2016

Nationality is not an issue. These crimes happen in every country.

What is sad is that a young life has been taken. Another is injured, and in legal trouble.

The violence is increasing. Two things stand out. (1) A theft was involved. (2) Serious violence causing death. (3) Happening at such a young age.

It should be known if alcohol or drugs played a role and if the parents or teachers knew the boy was carrying a knife or scissors. What is happening in society that a child this age is so obsessed with material
values he would kill for a phone.

What are our kids learning at home, in school, and in church :?: God forbid anybody should bring church into it :!:

I can almost hear somebody screaming ”What has religion got to do with it :?: ” J. Edgar Hoover, the late director of the F.B.I. said ”A child brought up in Sunday School is seldom brought up in court.” our churches have a responsibility to minster to the youth – that is if they are given that…

    • September 14, 2016

      continuation:

”our churches have a responsibility to minister to the youth – that is if they are given that opportunity.”

Parents have a responsibility to see that their children hear and understand the gospel. If the good seed is planted in their hearts at an early age there is an excellent possibility that it will bear fruit before Satan the arch enemy of souls can take control of their lives.

Parents, do you have a ”home church” where you take your children every Sunday :?: Does it preach the gospel according to 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 1:16, John 3:16,17, and 36 :?: Does it have a Sunday School for your children :?:

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

  14. Questions?
    September 14, 2016

I’m a bit sad and also in a black rage after reading this. Where are his parents? What in the world a 15 yr old is doing on the street with weapons? Why is he not in school learning a trade and especially the value of life? Why the need for the latest phone and all the other brand of shoes and clothing that others possess when you don’t hane the available resources? Who is to blame for his action? Family: for not educating and teaching him the importance of a hard earned day at work? Society: for installing in him the greeed and desire for always wanting more ? The gov’t: for not putting in place a program to create jobs and to keep young people off the streets? Friends: for their bad influence on him? So many questions that needs answering.

    • I am Dominican are you?
      September 15, 2016

Why are you in a ‘black rage’ after reading this article. Why must everything with a negative connotation be described as ‘black’. Why were you not in a white rage about it. Words as very powerful and are deliberately used for specific purposes.

    • You know why it is difficult for people in other countries, especially a place like Guadeloupe?

It is because you all take all of your bad habits out of Dominica, and travel with it, and impose your backward way of thing on people who are not accustom to the uncivilized way in which you conduct yourselves.

“I leaving going Dominica” what difference that will make, there are as much violent crimes which includes murder, rape and thievery in Dominica, you might as well stay where you are, and deal with it. The problem is in Dominica you all watch Television, and ignorantly not realizing the things you see in the movies don’t happen in real life, so you leave Dominica, with that stupid concept, and try to behave like what you on TV when dealing with people as soon as a conflict arises.

So, if kill or be killed is the Dominican mentality, suffer the consequences! Some of you are China man Boxers, some are Cowboys, so!

Telemaque, according to you it’s only in Dominica that crimes are committed. As usual you have nothing good to say about the country of your birth. Always full of negativity. What a sad individual you are! Of course you are residing in a country that has No Crime, where everyone is so civilised, so rich, so kind and caring. Where everyone lives together in harmony and in sheer bliss! We know that you are in perpetual gratitude that they allowed you in, and you feel so special for the little crumbs you receive. However, we do not envy you, no matter how much you boast and brag. We await more of your crass remarks and negativity. God Bless Dominica.

The youth respect nothing. Their parents most of them are not any better. As a grown man i still cannot fathom taking a life by gun muchless for up close and personal with a knife or scissors. to watch the person’s blood on my hands and shoes. I dont know how i would deal with it after. Savage animals are being raised from dominica with the mentality of psychopaths. Parents watch your children, take note of who their friends are, set rules and ensure they know and understand why the rules are set. create structure in your children’s lives because you are raising terrorists.

OMG what is wrong with our people! Now French people gonna hate all of us because we are all Dominica. His name should be revealed since the name of the teenager, Yohann Equinoxe he allegedly killed was revealed.
Where is Yohann Equinoxe? Dead. What’s the cause of death? Was murdered. Who killed Yohann Equinoxe? A teenage Dominican whose name cannot be revealed in Dominica because of his age, but in Guada his photo is revealed.

    • Bouilliante
      September 14, 2016

Calm down, this is a tragic and unfortunate stain on Dominica and even the accused family, however even in the USA minors photos and names can’t be released UNLESS they are charged as ADULTS irrespective of how heinous their crime. All countries have their own laws, maybe you should get hold of a newspaper from Guadeloupe to see his photo if his identity concerns you so much more than the fact a teenager resorted to taking another’s life in such a barbaric way. Young people are too prone to violence, life means nothing to them, while parents and society are left to deal with the aftermath, that is more disconcerting than his identity.

      • September 15, 2016

YOU have said it all; too often people comments concern only their personal feelings;there is a law for the criminals and a law for the victims that must be respected accordingly…the law right now is not only looking for the the person who committed the crime but also for the person or persons who named and showed the photo of the perpetrator ..because it is against the law to allow the public to know any thing about him due to his age…
The majority of the youth in Guadeloupe who become criminals have criminal parents. Most fathers turn their backs of their kids, even though the mothers receive financial help from gov’t ,some of them go in the town to steal every blessed day like a job ,they sell drugs, spend their time sitting by the road sides gossips when they could be at home to educate their children, some leave the kids at home at nights to prostitute themselves ,so in the mean time the kids educate themselves doing both good and bad.Education starts at home..

      September 14, 2016

The rules in Guadeloupe could be different. But this is a child. Even if he is tried as an adult his name cannot be revealed in Dominica. That’s the law. Stop trying to be controversial.

      • September 14, 2016

What’s wrong with you all?Is it that you guys can’t compose a comment and all u can do is jump on others? Did I blame DNO, the police or anyone for not posting his name? Don’t you think I know the law and do not need ur lecture? I just simply typed my frustration because I know how that murder will affect our image in Guada. Some will say they néed to keep him in jail the rest of his life as they express their frustration. But for real I feel its time to amend this act so teenagers will know that when they commit such act they will have to deal with the shame. So to those that abuse them like those there top ranking men will face the shame too when people see them side by side with those they abused. Please don’t tell me about America because we hate the good things they do

These small countries did not opt out and decide to make it a Law. They got it from the bigger countries as US, Canada, Europe. These governments hear what is occurring in those countries and adopt their Laws, their rules and regulations.
I do not see why his name has to be protected. It will not help him one bit. He murdered someone and one as young as he. He committed a crime. The Law requires him to bear the consequences for his action. Therefore, what is the use of withholding his name?
No leniency for him. Who knows what will happen to him while he is incarcerated.

  28. September 14, 2016

Hope this is a self defense case ,if not throw the book at him don’t matter his age. To many kids as adults don’t realize the grief the contributes on both sides of the families.

Somebody say Amen! That’s the crux of the matter. We measure our progress in gold – big car, big house, money we will never be able to spend, latest fashion in clothes, jewelry, phone. All material. The guiding question in today’s society – big and small – is “What’s your worth in gold again?”

Imagine a teenager carrying a weapon in case he has to use it. As a teenager, he is already a bad person. Who knows, the beginning of a lifetime of crime, if he is not imprisoned for life and also rehabilitated.

    • Tell the Facts
      September 14, 2016

Are you for real? Self defense case? He tried to steal his victim’s phone. He refused and was stabbed multiple times to death.
You have to look back to this young thief and murderer’s life.A bit crude but who are his parents/his family? How was he conceived, i.e., under what circumstances? How was he nurtured and disciplined? Was he a disobedient and truant child? Getting to his roots, these will shed a light on his background and himself to the end result of his murderous action at this young age.
If per chance (just assuming) he is given rehabilitation, the authorities must first get to the root of this matter while trying to make him a better person. The above-mentioned must be taken into account/consideration. Otherwise, he will not be able to be helped.

      • September 14, 2016

        Tell the Facts:

These questions are the grim realities the ”authorities” don’t want to face. It is sooo politically incorrect of you to even mention these things. Yet, herein is the truth. It is this truth that alone can heal and set people free. And heal it does when it is applied!

The issue of sin must be dealt with in the lives of the parents. The atmosphere in which the person was raised must be taken into consideration. Was the accused taught the moral principles and sound values God has given us in the New Testament :?: Nothing else will do one thing towards rehabilitating the offender. I see the constant failure of the ”behavioral sciences” and the wisdom of the world to change the human heart.

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

This very sad. If you go to the French daily, France Antilles (Guadeloupe edition) you will find that a 15 yr. old electronics student at the Baimbridge college , by the name of Yohann, was stabbed to death in the neck multiple times with either a knife or scissors, at approx. 5.30 pm. while waiting for his bus to go home. Apparently all that for the alleged theft of a phone! Protests are currently taking place and the traffic is blocked around the college and the location of the murder (..that is what the french newspaper calls it!) at La Croix.
Unfortunately, Dominicans have a bad name in Guadeloupe.
