Some Dominicans who talk their ususal nonesense I can overlook. But the religious ones really sickens me with their long winded judgements and diatribe.

They spew off without the slightest knowledge of what they are talking about. Do they consider know how many times the shooter had cause to complain to the police about assault and threats by the person he shot? Had it been them they would have done the same or even worse.

    Beware of those falsies.

Why call others names? People provide their comments just as you. Accord them that right. They mean well. What did the police do about the complaints? If the police failed to do something about it, they are somewhat responsible for this altercation and loss of life. It appears that if the police had done something about it this tragic end, the loss of a life could have been averted. A life lost can never be regained. There is no forgiveness for murder.

Hello and good morning my people. Well am very sadden to read about another Homicide in sweet Dominica and it further saddens me to see such vicious cycle raise it head again. Now we must hold the perpetrator responsible for this crime and we all must asked our citizens a specially the young men to reframe from such destructive dehavior. This isn’t a reflection on the whole society rather its a failure on the part of the perpetrator who committed this crime. I hope when he’s tried and if convicted then he will have a lot of time to reflect on what he did. I say to everyone who plan of resorting to this type of criminal behavior to look within yourself before choosing a violent path because there is a better way to settle thing.

“stupess” “‘Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque you sound so stupid!!!!!! are you retarded or what? or do you have just book knowledge and no common sense?….please'”(Stupes).

Now look at this; I do not know if this person is fictitious or simply a sound!

Here is someone who’s name is a sound such as when someone sucks air through their tooth; suggesting that I am retarded, or perhaps just have book knowledge.

However, with the same breath suggesting I have no commonsense!

Which of the two of us should I suggest is stupid?

The one who’s name is Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque, or the one who’s name is
stupess. Please look it up in a dictionary, one will not find any other definition to the word setups besides stupid !

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

So if that persons name is stupid I am wasting my time commenting on their stupidity, the person is so stupid, he/she wrote what appeared to be a sentence and compounded it with a series of exclamation marks, that alone defines the person as one who is very stupid indeed; have a nice day stupid, you think I do not know that you are from Marigot?

If you continue messing with me one of these days I will get angry at you and exposed your true identity, so you had better stop trying to insult the kid!
    Respectfully, The Retarded:

To all the people commenting and criticizing the shooter, I bet none of you know how much the man tormented him before he finally took action. My word of advice to the police take heed when people make reports because not everyone has so much patience. To those who spoke of ambition the Guy who shot him had ambition he was a hard worker. I’m not rejoicing that he killed him but stop bashing him. There is so much someone can take. Jeez

  11. WHO said that?
    March 21, 2013

I’ve seen so many comments blaming the deceased for his actions. Did anyone stop to think that perhaps his alledged bullying could have been a mental health issue?

Could it be that he was a “trouble” because he was suffering from something say like dementia..and when he was in his “zone”/ havign a bout, he would act more agressive?

I’m curious because we are getting the two siedes liek on one hand he was nice, normal man going to church, loving his dogs, taking care of his family…and on the other you’d hear about him being a bully, cuasing trouble.

People DON’T just act out for the sake of ACTING OUT.

that’s the problem in Dominica – there seems to be ZERO/NO awareness of mental health.

I think people need to be educated about mental heath and the issues associated with the more prevalent forms of mental health diseases

Dominicans are really openly showing their high level of stupidity when unfortunate incidents such as these happen and they fail to realize that the world is listening, watching and evaluating them. What does the Government or the opposition have to do with two men being involved in a confrontation and one killing the other? What does two men in the heights of laudat fight over land and one killing the other have to do with the police? Had it been the police who had shot kerwin over that same issue the whole country including the ppl who are now saying how much of a nuisance he was in the community would call to hang the police officer. Dominicans need to stop looking for and making excuses for ppl when they do their crimes. We need to allow ppl to take responsibility for their actions and stop looking for ppl to blame.

It is my observation many people who always complain and blame Skerrit for every single thing that happens, is actually due to their own personal failures in their lives and looking for someone to blame so why not the PM. Some people just can’t manage themselves far less money, I’ve seen it in some of my friends who constantly blames the PM, where a lot of money passes through their hands but they use it carelessly. They choose to run woman or drink rum day in day out and then say is the country, well it’s their life and money to do as they wish but don’t blame another man for that. There are people with genuine concerns about this government but a few just live off others genuine concerns as an excuse for their failure. I know because I once lived that life but never blamed anyone but myself. Why complain so much when you have the power to vote and if the majority vote in a government then respect the power of the majority until such day it can changed in your favour. In the meantime make the best of your life because it is not an easy life anywhere for anyone so don’t be fooled into thinking that getting Skerrit out will fix any of all you lives.

  17. FAMILY
    March 20, 2013

I know that many of you are disgusted with what happened to Collier and thats understandable, but you also have to understand what this man did to our family for many years. He is actually the cousin of the shooter as well. I am related to both. The shooter is a very humble, loving and helpful man. He is not some raga moffin on the streets but actually attended college and had a great job and a family. He takes care of his 93 year old grandfather and his family and friends truly love him. Collier was a very envious, trouble maker and he made so many people in laudat lives a living hell. We should not celebrate his death and you also should not judge the shooter without knowing all the facts. Collier went to great lengths to hurt our family. The shooter and the rest of the family made numerous reports to the police and they did nothing to help. Time after time again, collier threatened our family, and promised to murder our grandfather, auntie, cousins and nephews etc. What is a man to do when he cant get help from the police and fears for his life? We all most likely would have done the same thing to protect our selves and family if we were put in that same situation. Dont get me wrong, I know murder is a serious thing and it is wrong, but you also have to take a closer look, get all the facts before you all start blasting people for their actions esp when provoked constanly and pushed over the edge. R.I.P to collier and prayers go out to my cousin(the shooter). We love you!

It is sad and disappointing to know of another murder in DA. My heartfelt sympathy to his family. May his soul rest in peace. Amen!
I know a few Bertrands who reside in Ontario. Just spoke to one of them who said that he will contact the others. The deceased is a relative.
What could cause a man to be so angry that he will murder another? We are all saying can people not disagree without resorting to injury and murder? Does one have such a hard, wicked heart that he thinks nothing of murdering another? For a small place as Dominica, it really is too many murders. There should be none.
What is wrong with some people of today that they kill others? These people are possessed by the evil influence of the devil. Godlessness reigns in their heart.
Murderer(s) which is what you are for life before God and your fellow Dominicans, you have murdered a fellowman. You have caused much grief, anxiety, stress and hardship on his family and friends. You have done likewise to all Dominican nationals wherever they may reside for they love their country and wished that DA would be devoid of murders. You have also made them angry. You are adding to the bad reputation of Dominica caused by murders and other crimes.
The harm that you have done to Collier Bertrand’s family who are grieving his loss is irreparable. You can never bring him back. One day you will pay a dear price for this. The Lord said: “Vengeance is mine. I will repay.”
I wonder if God will ever forgive you for murdering one whom you are to love, not hate to the point of snuffing out his life. The Lord said, “Love God and others as you love yourself.” You have committed a grievous/mortal sin before God and against him.
Every Dominican knows that you committed a murder. You are living and Collier has lost his earthly life forever through you.
When you stand before God’s earthly Court, before a judge, do not say you are sorry and that you regret it. It is too late for that. May your defense lawyer not say that you pled guilty and did not waste the Court’s time. Let me further state that God is not interested in such words and superfluous, hypocritical, lying ones to obtain a lighter and reduced sentence.
They must think God and what will Jesus say (WWJS)? He saw you commit the murder and looked down in disdain on your evil act. He is angry with you for killing your brother in Jesus Christ. Be reminded of Cain and Abel. Our Almighty Father asked Cain where is Abel, his brother. The Lord will be asking you the same thing. What response will you give the Lord for the murder of your brother? We are all brothers and sisters in Our Lord Jesus Christ.
There is absolutely no excuse for murder. In time, may the sentence and punishment meted out by the earthly Court in DA fit your crime.
I do not know you or your victim but I am extremely angry with you for putting your victim’s family through what they are presently undergoing. This includes the entire nation and those of us who reside abroad who are also saddened at your evil act. We share the family’s loss.
You must repent before God with a contrite and humble heart, worship him, pray, make penance and sacrifice as a means of reparation to appease God. The rest I leave in God’s hands. It is all up to him how He will deal with you.

Whose side are you on anyway? Good or evil? I have written what I have written respectfully with the help of God and in view of Dominican nationals, those who would like to see Dominica restored to a safe and peaceful country. Crimes/murders do not make Dominica a safe and peaceful country. If you also cannot see the good and be appreciative, I am sorry for you. I know where your heart lies and what type of heart you have.
Keep encouraging murder. It will soon fall on you and your family. It will be like a curse. Your words have a way of falling back on you as a punishment for being critical and unappreciative. He murdered and he was wrong to murder. Tell that to God and see what his response will be.
If you are a genuine practicing Christian you should know the difference between right from wrong and that people must curb their temper. You are the same person, you and others who will lament and curse all DA authorities as also the Court System when others murder, are bailed , are acquitted and did not receive sufficient imprisonment. You are the bunch of hypocrite and two-faced. You do not know what you want or if you are coming and going.
Let us wait to see when the next murder will occur.

Callous people who do not care about the life and property of others. For a small country, it is shocking. They get away with it. Minimum sentencing and imprisonment; early parole. You can bet the situation will not get better and thanks to those who encourage it. It is a punishment for them who also have no respect for what others write. Their unenlightened minds do not realize it. Is this encouraging to visit?

I mean damn someone was killed. It would have been more appropriate to say STOP THE VIOLENCE!

    • March 21, 2013

In any event you also fail to utilized the English language appropriately!

First of all the names of people, places, animals, and things are started with a capital letter: therefore if your name is toma it should be written thus; Toma, you also wrote Dominica commencing with a lower case letter as such (dominica). the first “D” must always be capitalized!

You should have learnt that in kindergarten; I was taught that in the first grade in an government elementary school in the village of Wesley many moons ago; and I do not believe we have deviated from Cambridge English as of yet!

By the way most of the people who writes comments on DNO, are not highly scholastically, nor academically educated, some may not have completed elementary. You should also realize that most Dominicans have a terrible accent; they write as they speak i.e. it is quite common to hear someone in our country (say something like this) ” fing” instead of saying thing which is the correct word; a common word such as “the” is replaced by ” de” that’s everyday.

Here is another ” do not” or don’t which are one of the same word: however, most of our people do say “doh” personally, when I want to be sarcastic or humorous I indulge in the ” doh.”

No matter what; unless one majored in linguistics, or, let’s say English, it is more or less difficult to communicate in proper English, and that does not apply to Dominicans alone.

So, do not knock it when your diction is also poor!

And do not fire back at me because I know I am also a chief offender who botchers the English language everyday.

        March 22, 2013

Francisco, I had to write this and respond to your writing. You made good sense.
The English language consists of thousands of words and some big ones that we never heard of in Dominica in those days. We did not have TV and Internet then. In writing we could make mistakes. Therefore, it is necessary that we look up some words if we are unsure of their spelling and meaning. There is nothing wrong in that. The most educated – intellectual person does this. When they write do you think that all of it came solely from their head? They got a little help from the Thesaurus and by other means.
Some of them can speak intelligently but ask them to spell some words, they cannot do so. In Canada and the U.S. the norm is to use the word ‘can’t’ rather than ‘cannot’. I also notice this on the Internet when reading the news or other matters. There are also some typographical errors.
Many cannot write as well. In recent years the Canadian government requested that the doctors write properly so that patients can comprehend what they write for their medication. This includes pharmacists. Errors in dispensing could occur and cause patients death. I hope they keep it up.
I also learned to write properly in school. This is not taught in especially Canada and US schools. I do not know if good penmanship is taught in Dominica. I note how some children hold their pens. Ask them to write something and note their writing. I call it pathetic.
I have not lost my touch for writing good penmanship. To this day I am admired by co-workers and strangers for my perfect writing. The manager of the department would say to me, “I know you spell well. How do you spell this word?” He was not the only one. I should have had his job. I am also told that I am an intelligent person. I am not blowing my own trumpet. Nevertheless, I enjoy the compliment. I attribute this to my parents and education in Dominica.
I had reason to write to a manager. It was a complaint pertaining to a supervisor. I stayed up late that night to do so. The following day I brought it to him – a few pages. Sometimes we can explain ourselves better in writing than in speaking. Reason also, it is a documented record. The manager asked me if I wrote it and how long it took me to write it. I told him. He replied: “I,” meaning he, “could never write something like this.” Again, I should have had his job. They see people; they know people; they hear people; they work with people but they do not know who they are and what sort of educational and socio-economical background they have. Someday they find out.
Pertaining to proper penmanship, once, I bought an item at a store. I was dissatisfied with it. I returned it. In order to receive my refund I had to sign for it. The store clerk said to me to “print” it. In Canada, students learn to print rather than write. I told her, printing is for those who cannot write properly. I did not print my name. I wrote my name. She was not pleased with my reply. Her features projected it. I am certain I taught her a lesson. The reason being, many people in the country I reside in cannot write and spell properly. Therefore, for legibility reasons they are told to print their name. I am not referring to immigrants/ refugees whose first language is not English. I am not exulting myself or complimenting myself or seeking compliment. However, few people can write as well as I can. This is no exaggeration. Should have a competition. :) You also know that in these countries some speak a lot of slang language. I thank God for having obtained such a good education in Dominica. When people speak properly and conduct themselves properly, generally they are respected.
The same applies in communicating with others. The spoken, correct English. Today many people have computers. Some did not receive the schooling that others got or that they did not apply themselves. We have every opportunity to educate ourselves. We should listen to educating television and radio programs and listen intently to what is being said. Make notes of certain words and look them up. Reading certain books will also assist. The computer Thesaurus, Spell Check, Research and the dictionary are great learning tools. Another factor is to keep company with those who will enhance our educational learning process for our benefit. This is what I know of the overall learning process. I am not a perfect writer but I am trying. Practice makes perfect.

i have read through most of the comments and i get the tone of hatred even in what people are writing. On DNO, people are calling each other all kinds of ridiculous name. just for a comment.

and we are wondering where do hate come from. if people can hate people that they dont know, just by reading things they write. Imagine what would happen if their was actual confrontation with some of the comment.

are dominicans thinking? peace begins with me, peace begins with you. we must learn to respect one another and accept one another opinions. your thoughts are not my thoughts and vice versa.

there is where altercation begins because we fail to respect one another. With this in mind, lets pray for the deceased that his soul will rest in peace and the alleged accused for God’s forgiveness and repentance.

Hmmm it seems to me flak jackets are not designed to protect against bullets fired from small-arms such as rifles or handguns. However, certain flak jackets are able to sustain certain gunshots, dependent on the armor, the gun, and the distance that the bullet has travelled. To be on the safe side I would recommend another vest :).

  25. Act of Contrition
    March 20, 2013

@ Blame game, since you asked me some questions let me give some answers. First of all I am employed and I am not by any means trying to encouage people that are not employed to pass their rage on others. However, there are some things that go hand in hand and definitely unemployment and crime kiss each other.
While this crime and other crimes were not committed by those in authority, one would have to be naive to not blame unemployment for the high level of crime in Dominica especially in the last five years. Let’s face reality sir/madam; young people as well as older folks have needs. They want to build a house, pay their loan, by a car etc. When they are not employed and not even seeing signs of being employed they look for means to pay their bills. That’s where drugs, theft, and other acts of lawlessness comes in and that’s where I blame this Skeritte led administration.
Since he came in power unemployment has risen by over 50%. Instead of looking for opportunities for young people he chose to have them come to the Red Clinic for handout. Handouts may help you eat bread today but not pay bills on a mothly basis.
As we all know, agricuture created employment for over 50% of Dominicans. Since Skerrit came in power, agricuture has fallen to rock bottom and people have no money. Not only that, but when opportunities came for more people to get employed, they went to China and created employment for Chinese and left thousands of our people unemployed. At the end of the day 99% of the wages them Chinese goes back to China while our people have to beg their way to their next meal. Were Dominicans the majority on just concluded projects such as: Roseau/Portsmouth highway, Windsor park, State house etc. Emphatically no! Compare this to when Sentra built the Portmouth/ Pagua road where 95% of our people were employed. Did you get it?So yes, I blame the bad policies and poor practices of this government for the sharp rise in crime and if we don’t change that ASAP Dominica will be gone beyond return

My problem is a more basic one.

If the communication issues shown on here are common in Dominica then no wonder crime is on the rise.

A set of people who cannot write, speak or think properly must be more inclined to anti social behaviour.

This is painful to watch and even try to read. Its also embarassing.

Is there a way to ensure that some of you people can go back to school or at least stay there till you master the basics of writing a sentence ?

    Sheesh.

I think that some us need to think before we write. Because some of us has the privilege of taking up residency in places like the USA, we are quick to ridicule or belittle the only country that we can truly call home. It is shameful to hear people make statements like “If the communication issues shown on here are common in Dominica then no wonder crime is on the rise. Dominican is no different to any order developed or developing country. The USA been no exception. People are murdered every day in the USA. Does that mean that there is a communication issue too? How dumb and naive can some us be just because we get to take up residency in another man’s country. I want us to bear one thing in mind; this world is on its collision course, and the BIBLE tells us in Matthew 24:11 “And because iniquity shall abound the love of many shall wax cold.” This my friends is the communication issues that is tearing our world apart; and not just Dominica.

        Anonymous,

No one is perfect. The best of educated writers inadvertently make spelling errors. Some are not intentional and are typographical errors. The keyboard could be a cause of that when one types quickly. Sometimes the keys could get stuck; not that it is old.
I will not tell you who I am or who my parents and other family members are so as not to give myself away. Furthermore, I do not want anyone to shoot my family in DA for what I state. I was brought up in a strict disciplined household. Whatever I undertake to do I do my utmost to perform it perfectly. You can call me a somewhat perfectionist, inherited from my parents. People do not have to be rich or well-off to speak, write and conduct themselves properly.
I was brought up in a certain society in Dominica. The norm was a person was judged by their language, the manner they spoke, their mode of dressing, the manner in which they conducted themselves and what came out of their mouth. It also included the company they kept. It appears this hardly ever exists today. It appears that some people are not interested in this anymore. It is a different society than it was in bygone years. Much more could be stated about that.
In many respects this nurturing is an asset to me. I thank my parents for my nurturing. This should give you a fair knowledge of myself and why I write and comment the way I do. It should not be open to criticism as some criticize the writing of others and what they state.
I received excellent elementary and high school education in Dominica. Emphasis was placed on spelling and writing – penmanship. These were two of my best subjects. Literature and history were two others among the rest of subjects.
When I moved to Canada I took a business college course and a few other courses. Residing abroad we should be open to higher education and learning. I can state that this has enhanced my knowledge and writing. I urge all those who utilize computers to do likewise. Take time to look up those words. It is a learning process.
The world comprises of all sorts of people, the educated and the uneducated ones. We must be patient with others. At the same time they must be patient with us. When people criticize what we state and especially if they do not write properly, it is obvious we will respond accordingly. Everyone writes differently and thinks differently. We are dialoguing with one another. We should not be rude to others. Those who do can bring out the worst in others. This is the basis of our writing at this time, people antagonize others, causing them to retaliate to the point of causing a fatality, if this is so. We must be careful about that.
Life is a growing and learning process. Reading is an education in itself. People should learn what is educating and enhancing from others including their writing.
Those who are not able to write properly should not criticize those who do. I love to read educational matters and sensible writings.

All sin is measured equally, however God forgives all sin. With that said, knowing the history and the facts behind the two males relationship, I would deem it unfair if the shooter were sent to prison. I’ve seen him around and while I don’t know the him personally, I know he was an upright standing citizen in the land. I feel the entire Laudat community should support him. Go out in large numbers and offer your views to the courts, to the judge, whoever it may be.

He deserves a second chance at life. I don’t believe his life should be taken away from him as well.

    • Justice and Truth
      March 20, 2013

You are wrong. This is what some religious leaders teach their followers. They mislead you by false teaching.
You need to seriously study Holy Scripture, the New Testament. All sins are not measured equally. Some of you underestimate God and misinterpret sins for what they are. They are sins but they are not one and the same type of sin. Depending on the type and nature of the sin, God may or may not forgive the one who sins especially for murder.
If only at this moment God would give you a trip to especially Heaven and Hell, it would be a wide and rude awakening, the latter Hell, for you. You will then comprehend what it is to sincerely love God or not in addition what sin can do and the various types of sins which God might or might not forgive. It is also not enough to say, God forgive me, leaving it at that, continuing with one’s life as is and expect that you are forgiven. There is too much false teaching in this era which will do the listeners and followers no good straight to eternity.
There are grievous sins. There is no excuse for taking a life. It is a grievous/mortal sin and you know it is against the Fifth Commandment of God. What excuse could one give for taking a God-given precious life? Do you think if he stands before God for his judgment and he tells God that it was a mistake that he will be forgiven? You know where his soul will end up for all eternity. In order to be forgiven he must be truly remorseful and will have to make penance and restitution. How much restitution can one make for murder, depriving another of his right to life? We also know what St. Paul said: “No murder and nothing defiled will ever enter Heaven.” God has ordained that.
Do not be misled by your mind, your manner of thinking and those false prophets of our times. Let everyone do their utmost to lead a godly life.

    Dorival John…
You are very much correct..I read the article on that shooting in Antigua and what the authority there decides too do..
For the better part even if it would be just talk, the authority did comment on it and promised to take action.
Unlike in Dominica,it’s like the authority is saying that’s life..Well it will only be life if the people(masses)allow it to be life..They can do something about it,everyone is in it together and it’s the responsibilty of all to chip-in one way or the other in bringing about some kind of slow down, offcuss I don’t expect an eradication since Dominica is not situated on planet Mars,or some kind off common sence solution to the mayhem.
If you watch carefully,it is very noticable that the mayhem is trickling down from the advance nations into the third world nations. And that’s happening in more ways than one.If you heard what the UN chief said today in regards to guns and the lesser developed countries.Guns moving far and wide not only in the U.S but even across waters into the hands of drug lords and criminals.Dominica does not manufacture guns,I know off bananas. And so if it means that the authority and the people(Dominica)should stand alone in dealing with that mess, then so be it.
I would like to call upon the christians, the belivers. That’s part of your role as GOD fearing people to intervene on the behalf of the nation.
Yes..prays can move mountains,as it is said, but actions in some situations seals the job.
    Faith without works is dead…
I hope you all(believers)down there are not going to treat it like the ones over here in the U.S.
Fall-a-sleep on it,and in some cases even supporting having guns for self protection..Like GOD is dead or fallen asleep or is to busy in his mansion on high with house chores..
I’am sure GOD was not joking when he said vengeance is his he will repay…Deut.32:35
Also it is better to put your trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man..Psalms 118:8
Guns are man made…Other than that, I can only say to you all guys, don’t sleep on it,work on eradicating that evil before it gets the upper hand on the nation.
Be reminded,He that killeth with the sword, must be killed with the sword.Rev.13:10
The same for guns..Do not allow it(guns) to do to Dominica like what it is doing to America.
Destroying them, destroying their children and ultimately it will destroy the nation,if common sence action is not taken..
    GOD BLESS

    • March 20, 2013

The problem with people like you is that you like to run off your mouth as if you are an authority on what goes on in the United States. Let me inform you that there are more crimes in Dominica, than there is in South Central Los Angeles as you claim.

There are more rape, murder, thievery, and corruption in Dominica per capita than in South Los Angeles!

First of the name “South Central Los Angeles does not exist; so whereas you are running off your mouth talking about South Central Los Angeles tells me you are nothing more than a wind bag babbling in the wind.

There is a guy from Dominica and his wife who works for an international chain of hotels in St. Croix, he and I are friends to Dr. J ( actually Jonathan Prevost) formally of River Street. I did not know the guy until Jonathan introduced him to me.This guy in question, and his wife was given a vacation to Pasadena, he told Jonathan he would be in Pasadena for a week or so, My friend gave him my number and told him to call me when he got here, which he did.

I went to pick him up in Pasadena, brought him to Los Angeles and entertained him and his wife for the day.

We sat talking, in the conversation he told me you can take me anywhere except, ” South Central Los Angeles. My girlfriend was sitting listening to him, so she asks him why don’t you want to go to South Los Angeles?

The man responded by saying to her ” well they told me not to go there because I will get myself killed.” So Doncetta my friend said to him but you have been to South Central so many times for the day, I am surprised you are still alive!

I mean he felt stupid, sat there with his mouth sealed. I eventually said to him let us drive around and see how many crimes you will see people committing. What I did is that I took that guy and showed him the rest of Los Angeles, homes that are very expensive in South Central Los Angeles, which you people will never have in Dominica.

Talk about things you know about, and not what you hear ” they say.” That is stupid, unless you or some relative resides in the slums in Los Angeles, you need to shut your mouth, because you might not even be able to live in South Los Angeles; the rent may be too high for you!

Prior to the collapsed of the Real Estate Market in 2009 the average price of a home in South Los Angeles, was over five hundred thousand dollars okay!

You are so right. Every modern country issue personal firearm to their officers upon entry into the academy and train then on the rules of engagement. But here in Dca we behave like is a privilege to give an officer a gun. Well, as long as we remain with that mindset and treat our officers as security guards working in pre schools, criminals will keep arming themselves because they know police will not bantar them. And can we blame the police for not bantering the criminals? Hell NO!

      Assertive, NOT Agressive!

I gave you a ride a few weeks ago, and you were speaking about your dogs and how you take good care of them, about your house and your tools and your plan to fence up your home. On Sunday I saw you going to church, and I was happy for the change that I saw in you. You lost your daughter in very tragic accident, and now you were gun down, so sad. I just hope the few times I saw you, at church you had time to accepted Christ. RIP my friend.

My condolences to the family of the deceased man.

We need to stop comparing Dominica to “developed” countries. Dominica is NOT America. There is no comparisons in terms of population, resources, landmass etc. We know our sweet, peaceful nation is not used to all this crime and violence. We want this seeming crime wave to end. The question is what do we do? What should the government, police, courts, pastors, priests and average normal citizens do to maintain peace and overall safety in Dominica?
I don’t have many answers at this moment. But I can: to train up my children the best way I know how, be a positive example and influence to the youth, speak out loudly on this issues, but most importantly I can PRAY for my sweet, lovely Dominica. I am praying in Jesus Name.

Everyone is lamenting that the police are not doing their jobs; to some extent you all are right because when I am home needing my father to spend time with me (which should be his first priority/job) he is out there putting his life on the line to protect honest hardworking people from those who have no respect for the law. and yet still the people are UNGRATEFUL! Not that anyone would give a damn if he lost his life and I am left fatherless in the process. Tell me, what did he gain….think he did something great for his community? NO! he left hurt and anger and even more need for revenge because the victims also had love ones. “When the Police Force is doing its work, we sometimes condemn it for doing its work. For us to have a society where we can enjoy the way of life that we are accustomed to, that is to say going to the falls, the hot springs, the river at any time of day or night, [we must respect each other’s rights.] You can only continue to have that when people are prepared to respect your rights as a citizen. I find these days that people believe that they can disrespect people’s rights. We should be able to walk the streets freely in Dominica instead of being afraid of someone coming to harm us and therefore I am calling on us to assist the police in fighting this very dangerous trend.”

      March 20, 2013

Concerned, I agree with you. I don’t condone violence in any form, but also, in my village, for example, myself and many, many others have complained to the police several times about constant thefts and threats of violence from one person. The police refuse to act. They say they will pick him up, then say they cannot find him (when everyone knows where he is). Now there are some men who are saying ( and have told the police) they will kill him if they see him on their land again. Still the police will not act.
On one occasion when I went to report this guy, the policeman told me “why don’t you get a gun licence so you can shoot him if he comes near you again?”
Apart from it is against my principles to shoot someone, and I am a female and went to the police for help, I can quite understand the frustration of the villagers who are threatening to take justice into their own hands.

Why do we always like to compare ourselves with others? If the next lowest is 100 murders per year, is it ok to have 99 and remain the lowest? Tell those politicians and police officers to do the work they are given salaries to perform and you and your likes, learn to stand for something noble.

      • Student
        March 20, 2013

Whilst you have a good point- I just wish it were lower still or even non-existent. It is possible you know. With law enforcement doing what they have to do. They need to realize that we don not want to end up like other Caribbean countries where the crime rate is atrocious and people are afraid to walk the streets even in the day sometimes. I am currently pursuing studies in one such country and every night there are news reports of some horrible killing somewhere and these ruthless killers just don’t seem to care. I want my country to be a place where i can walk about freely. When I was child a few years ago I heard of murders on the TV or overseas-always somewhere else. i am calling on our law enforcement agencies and others who are concerned to work together to stem this. It is not good. There need to be stiffer penalties for possession of illegal firearms perhaps and maybe the police need to act on suspicion or even take complaints more seriously so that an example can be made of those who wish to disturb the peace of our country. And the police commissioner (or whoever is responsible)needs rid the police force of corrupt individuals who will seek to impede this process.

There are enough countries in the Caribbean that beat our murder rate for a start. In 2010 (latest available data) we had a homicide rate of 22.1 (total number of murders in that year 15).
Compare that with the following neighbouring countries, over the same period:
Barbados 11.3 (total number of murders 31)
Antigua & Barbuda 6.8 (total number of murders 6)
Grenada 11.5 (total number of murders 12)
Haiti 6.9 (total number of murders 689)
Even Canada and the U.S.A. did better than us with scores of respectively 2.6 (total 554) and 4.8 (total 14,748).
However, even these relatively low scores drop into insignificancwe compared with the likes of
European countries such as Ireland 1.2(total 54), Sweden 1.0 (total 91) or Norway 0.6 (total 29).
The source of these figures are the U.N. Statistics whereby the score is expressed as the number of homicides per 100,000 of the population.

No, we are not the worst but we are far from being the best either!

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, I love You!
Jesus, Mary, Joseph, I give you my heart and soul.

I Morihei Ueshiba from the island of Dominica blame none other than the Hon.Skerro from vielle case for the rampant rise in crime & gov corruption plaguing the island of Dominica, your economic policies have impoverished Dominicans, your 15% Vat have made them poorer, your 100% disregard for the rule of law sets a bad example, and your don’t care arrogance leading your sheeple followers is sending Dominica to the rubbish bin. It is time you accept responsibility for your actions and do something to correct it as history will not forgive you, you need to improve the standard of living & quality of life of Dominicans, giving yay-z, Anonymous, 90210,Dominican queen, and I DIE NU handouts on wednesday will not improve their life u must give them jobs and if u cannot do it resign now and save face cause i see alottttttt more deaths coming in the near future. Thank You

To All – Here is your next PM – Morihei Ueshiba – He has all the answers for this country. He hates the now PM with a passion as there is not one time he is objective and cannot even give an iota of credit to the now in power administration.

Morihei Ueshiba put your money where your mouth is and try doing something productive and positive for your country. Always like a stuck record blaming one man – Now time to come up with some answers to DA problems as you stated.

Is that what we are offering the world via TV today? We are just getting ready for test cricket in Dominica and that’s what Dominicans are offering?
Everyday is the same old. same old story. Drugs, murder, crime, unemployment yet still all you trying to Dominicans to re-elect these guys. Do we just want a continuation of the same old same old tory?

    • Blame Game
      March 20, 2013

@Act of Contrition, are you going to blame the godless actions of man on a political party or a leader. The last time I checked every man/woman was responsible for their own actions and should pay for the actions they may have done. let me ask you are question, are you employed or unemployed. Since you intimated that unemployment was one of the old stories – it could just be that you are unemployed (just saying) if you are, do you engage in such vicious acts, i am certain that you are not. So do not give those who are unemployed any excuse for committing any lawless acts in our beautiful Isle.Everyone must decide his own destiny

      Act of Contrition,

I voted for O’bama. Is he the reason for the height of unemployment in Florida? Is O’bama the reason why so many young people in Florida kill each other? When the young guy in Jackson killed his mother and used a knife to cut her head off and throw it in the park, did O’bama do that?

Just because you don’t like Skerrit you will say all those nasty things. Stuupes!!!

Skerrit holds rally to celebrate his ‘victory’ in the courts. Dominicans jump up and down in ecstasy.

Meanwhile the country is going to waste with high crime and even higher unemployment.

    Are we really that blind?

And where is the opposition. I haven’t heard a whisper from them on the spiraling crime rate.

In Antigua a woman was shot dead in broad daylight and the gov’t began putting things in motion to curtail crimes, such as reviewing the death penalty and so on.

In Dominica, silence…..we only waiting for another rally to go and jump up.

    This land needs help.

The opposition on several occasions spoke to the increase in the level of crime. Mr.Blackmoore even denied it. Call Matt in the morning for this information. It is is Q95 archives, you must be listening to the other radio stations this is why you will never have this credible information.

But the man was preaching vengeange on those, who exercised their democratic right to challenge him in court. His lawyer saying they will hunt these people like Obama hunting Al Quada. What do you expect? Is that not preaching violence and hatred instead of preaching unity, harmony and reconciliation? Politicians know their words have weight and must bear the consequences for uttering them.

I did not blame Skerrrit for the high crime rate.

I blame him and his administration for staying silent on and not putting the proper mechanisms in place to combat or at least deter crime.

When last have you heard the PM discuss crime in Dominica? The last time he appeared in public, he spoke about winning in the courts. Did he address crime? Did he address unemployment?

Why are you surprised? Is how we do things. Me too shaking my head.

Funny how we blame government for lavishing scarce sums on building homes for their acholytes and supporters. We say they creating a culture of dependency. People should take responsibility for themselves, we cry. But when someone takes another’s life in this way, we blame government for not doing enough why there is so much crime. As if those who benefit from government largesse have no control over what happens in their lives.

Come on my people, lets be consistent.
