UPDATE: Police questioning man in Krazy Kokonuts shooting

Dominica News Online has been reliably informed that one man is now being questioned by the police for the shooting death of a Bath Estate man early Sunday at Krazy Koconuts.

Our source indicates that the man was picked up by lawmen at the office of a Roseau attorney on Sunday afternoon in what the source say may have been a tip off.

The incident occurred around 4:00 am on Sunday.

The dead man has been identified as Wayne Maxwell, also known as Harderzz.

Eyewitnesses told Dominica News Online that the incident occurred when two men started fighting. One of the men got stabbed.

They said the brother of the man who got stabbed pulled out a gun and shot the other man.

He reportedly died on the spot.

The man who did the shooting is now on the run and is being sought by police.

The other victim of the incident after he was stabbed

Krazy Kokonuts is owned by business man Frankie “krazy T” Bellot. It houses the Mapau Entertainment Center, a nightclub and other facilities.

Reports which have since reached DNO indicate that the man who was stabbed, though seriously injured, was in a stable condition at the PMH.

These clubs need to establish a ‘black list’ for individuals causing disruption in the society – You kill, use of weapon in or out of a club to injur anyone, and you go on that list. Have photo posted on data base- Coordinate this with law enforcement. No one on that list will be permitted to enter the clubs for the rest of their lives.

Do not be surprised, despite prohibition, they would be bold enough to show up there and when denied entrance you know what may ensue. This should primarily come from the Court.

People need to be searched, and frisked at the door before they enter the club. Even if they have to ask some of them to turn their backside out ,things will definitely change. News carries fast, see if they don’t leave the guns at home if they want to have a good time.

It is sad that so many young people are dying due to crime. It is time for honest conversation my peeps. It is foolish to think that gathering to pray or sending task force groups to perform community outreach will suppress the rising trend of criminal activities in Dominica. I’ve listened to all kinds of excuses coming from those in authority to include religious folks; We heard one official attributed the elevated crime rate to development and that was to me the highest insult to basic common sense. We can jump high jump down but the hard and honest truth is that the crime wave in Dominica is due to the increased poverty and corruption. I am not going to dwell on the details so much as to create the semblance of political attack however we must be honest with ourselves. Many people would for partisan convenience would like to portrait or defend the status quo with comments such as ; “ America has crime, Britain has crime” or Crime happens everywhere”. While it is true that crime happens everywhere it is also conventional wisdom that crime is much higher and thrives among poor communities.

I do understand that many people would like to avoid the root of the problem because of the sensitivity of the root cause to partisan politics. Whether or not the young people get butchered , shot at krazy Coconut, in Lagoon Portsmouth, in Calibishie or Scotts head the violence that we see today is also a direct or indirect result of the drug problem. Again poverty and corruption give rise to drug trafficking and drug abuse.

It is time that we have an honest discussion. I hope that those who would rather not deal with the harsh realities on the door step may never have to deal with the derivatives of corruption and poverty under their bed. “ Ca pas vle vwe douvant kaiy ous ou que vwenye aba kaban ous”

Everyone has opinions and offer advice. They are not always correct and worth adopting and practicing. Are you an agnostic or an atheist? It appears that you do not believe in God and the power of genuine worship and prayer. You are wrong to think that changes can come without recourse to God and His help.
Our Lord Jesus Christ said, “Apart from Me you can do nothing.” Know that everything will merely be a band-aid and temporary. You have it all wrong. Cease teaching that people can depend on solely themselves to change. Anyway, who in their right mind as a faithful Christian would pay heed to your godless advice? They should know better than you do.

    Fellow Dominicans,

The Tsunami that someone spoke about earlier is right at our door steps waiting to roll in. Regardless of what we may say, LEADERSHIP is the most lacking commodity in our beloved Dominica and we better admit it. Be it, police, churches, politicians, teachers, drug dealers etc etc, we are sailing on a ship (The MV Dominica) with a dead captain and crew and to make matters worse the compass is NOT working.

We have become puppets of politicians and tools of deviant tradesmen. We have failed to heed the call of the supreme being and those among us with the know how simply because of pride. We continue to belittle our very own professionals because we believe they belong to another political party or they are “diaspora” and therefore should not interfere. We have taken and continue to take bread from the mouths of others because of differences of opinions, political affiliations, religions and sexual orientations.

In conclusion, until WE as a people learn to call a SPADE A SPADE and not pretend that it is actually more like a spoon so we will just say its a spoon, then the Tsunami will soon strike with devastating results. Wake up my people and let us collectively address the ills of our society without fear, favor, malice or ill will. The out of control MV Dominica is sailing on the edge of the abyss and we will have no one else to blame but ourselves. It is far cheaper to make the sacrifices and get back on course today than to leave it for tomorrow. I hurt dearly for my country.

    God Bless Dominica

i dont like DNO style at all. what is with keeping back the names of these guys anyway? we know who they are already, you even posted a pic, give us the names. the comments people are leaving have more news than the article. these boys are well known and witnesses calling their name already. one been arrested, just say they arrested on suspicion of blah… and which brother is nursing his wounds or whether he is dead too. so you mean to tell me you can post a pic from his hospital bed but not his name? give us a proper piece on this incident. its been over 24 already and we still have half a story online kmt, smfh

    • Anonymous
      June 4, 2012

Obviously you do not seem to have a clue about reporting. The man is confirmed dead…THAT’S A FACT..and his name can be made public. The others are mere allegations for the time being, until the police releases credible information, a media house cannot quote “Radio Cod Patat”. This is cause for lawsuit if the allegations turn out to be false.

Its becoming like a big joke I recently stated such incidences will happen especially the way we have lost our way with our children and in some cases people who knows better condoning such behavior and expect not to have those ignorant, violent, elements amongst us. My opinion is we have become a country of reactionary rather that being proactive and nip those would be situation in the bud, to lesson the impact and the pain which follows after the fact. The police cannot be every where a crime is taking place we should be our brothers keepers and the eyes and ear of our law officers but some amongst us will disagree but that`s fine cause who feels it knows it. All emotions aside I have said we should tailor our Laws our behavior and deal with our problems in the times we are living that is to say where necessary clamp down on bad behavior and let the punishment fit the crime and our behavior. this is just the tip of the ice burg sad to say but I firmly believe that there seems to be a blatant disregard for law and order and every body think that their way or the high way and yes! I will say that without fear whatsoever the more things change the more it stays the same. Every one wants to show the other who is boss and who is the biggest attention getter and desperately looking to impress others by any means necessary. I could go on and on but clearly it wont matter to some. Finally let me say for the records and warn our Law enforcement officers please re evaluate and have a sit down with all places that a not up to pa with their security measures. I am not in the business of bashing people or taggeting any place of entertainment but let me warn that the place just outside of Roseau where security is so lax it is only a matter of when some incidence of violence is going to take place. It`s a dam joke with our present state of violence persons are allowed to enter such a place un checked we cannot allow the fox to watch the coup therefor please do something and make these people comply and become sensitize to the apparent dangers hanging over all of us. We cannot sit on our hands and expect our problems will go away it`s not going to happen cause we have lost our way and every thing seems to be in a mess. I carefully posted this blog to meet the standard set by D.N.O.

How many of these “thugs” can hold their own in a fight with another man (without weapons) or have survived being shot or done some hard time? Terrorizing your community does not make you a thug. It makes you a punk. So earn respect the right way by being a positive force in your community.

  26. Unbiased Successor.
    June 4, 2012

It is of great shame to see that people now a days cannot enjoy themselves without out fighting, stabbing or even shooting someone dead.

What we should be protesting about are,is to have control of striker security at those events. For example zapping or even strip searching all entrants before entry to the club. This will most definitely expose items such as narcotics, firearms and other weapons entering an event or a club thus reducing any problems likely to happen and in turn would make it into an enjoyable place to visit.

We all should not take a dim view of my suggestion s.Dominica does not want this sort of publicity as this sort of actions can ruin our chances of being a safe haven to visit.

Please DNO, make a comment to the powers to be so they can emphasise on greater security rather than turning the other cheek.

How do you know that he was the shooter? were you there to witness him committing the act? Furthermore, has the shooter been charged? The individual has not been formerly charged and his rights read to him therefore DNO cannot state anymore than they have at present.
There is a legal process that needs to be followed.

It is sad that such occurred in DA. I am not making excuses for those who carry guns and other weapons to entertainment places of all where people congregate for their enjoyment.
Last night at 6:30 pm, there was a shooting, one murder and approximately 7 injuries at a food court in downtown Toronto at the Eaton Centre. This is also a tourist attraction. One injured was a 13 year-old U.S. boy who was visiting with his family. The Police stated that it appeared it was a gang war. They know the shooter(s) and are looking for them.
A few years ago on Boxing Day a 15 year-old girl was shot and killed on the street near that centre. She was an innocent person who was going about her business shopping on that day. The shooting involved ‘blacks’ gang war.
The entire world is affected by such people who possess illegal guns and weapons and utilize them. These wicked, heartless people do not care who gets killed or murdered when they commence shooting.
The Eaton Centre which has numerous, various stores was shut down to today, Sunday. Consider the loss of business to the owners and loss of wages to especially part-time employees.
A vigil was held tonight at the food court for the deceased and those injured. I do not reside in the downtown core but if I did I would have attended.
Folks, we are in a world-wide dilemma of wicked people of obviously wicked hearts. It is a consistent wake-up call.
Our Almighty Father, God is calling us through His Blessed Son Our Lord Jesus Christ, to recognize Him (for those who do not), worship Him, pray to Him, for others, obey His Commandments and perform acts of love, generosity and mercy. He also wants us to pray for those perpetrators who are a menace to society, who create havoc in our environment, wherever we may reside.
Keep in mind, Our Lord said, “I did not come for the righteous but for the sinners” We are all sinners, one way or the other.
God bless Dominica and all Dominicans wherever we reside. God’s peace and protection to each and everyone of us.

As much as I would like to support you, I cant because my training has taught me that when the ECONOMIC situation is as bad as it is now, people turn to gangs, drugs, guns and violence as a way to vent their frustration. Further, the government has a responsibility in every country to create an environment that will attract economic activity by those with the money to do so.

Therefore Mr. Rock, remove your head from under the rock and fact the stubborn fact. Our government and system on a whole has failed us as a people miserably. We need to stop being political hypocrites because our inability to see things and forget colors is destroying this country one person at a time. St. Paul said: “Get angry but do not let the sun go down on your anger.”

Do not blame what others assume and state. You know, at times as this, news and hearsay could be untrue and distorted. As the saying, ‘take it with a grain of salt’ and do not work yourself up about it. It is not worth it. Merely offer your comments and correction if possible.
Innocent people who try to break up fights always get in between and could be killed. I am informing you that this occurs in other countries. The best thing to do is to immediately telephone the Police. If there is security at the place, immediately notify security or security should be aware of it and stop the fight. It is an era that security should carry a gun or taser. I have always known that the Police or Security should not aim to kill but to “maim”, specifically on the foot to prevent the perpetrator(s) from running away. Heard this since I resided in Dominica as a child. In those days DA did not have all these robberies and murders.

This is why types as he should never be granted bail. Thanks to their lawyers who plead on their behalf they are granted bail. I hope this time he should never be granted bail and remain in prison even after his case is called for life until he dies.
The Court should set conditions for bail for dangerous types as he that they should never attend such settings where there are a gathering of people for he could pose a hazard to their well-being and life. Murderers and other criminals who are out on bail should be kept away from law-abiding people.

if everything really occured the way the article says, this looks a lot like the shooter was defending the victim of the stabbing.

There are times you contradict yourself. No one has a right to shoot anyone whether specifically in such a setting, in self-defense or defending others. It is downright murder to the highest degree! The murderer should bear the consequences of his action.

      • Anonymous
        June 4, 2012

stop pretending all you have all the answers. even a stranger can defend another individual and establish self defence if their intention is to protect the life and safety of others. It is the degree of force that is used which will be questioned and in that case it is clear that we have many more precedents of murder cases where knives are involved in dominica than guns.

If that’s true then police don’t have the right to shoot anyone even if they’re shooting at them as they are people as well. If I saw my brother being chopped up like confetti on the floor I would shoot too if i had a gun and so would most other siblings. That is temporary insanity, justifiable homicide where the action is understandable based on the circumstances. However the unscrupulous character of the individuals involved paints a different story as this issue is one that stretches back almost a year if not more

It seems unfair to make a direct link to the violence with Krazy-T, Skerrit or Labour. Let’s keep it real, these things have been going on from time immemorial, they happened under all past administrations and at other entertainment spots. Remember it was because of the alleged violence that the Fish Nights in Scotts head were discontinued. These incidents happen all over and will continue to happen not only in Dominic but everywhere.
One can, however, understand the indirect link that some are making with regard to the apparent state of lawlessness in the country, which they claim flows from top to bottom with declarations from our leaders that no law, no constitution can prevent me from doing this and that, it is not your damn business, the non execution of lawful warrants, the return of unlicensed firearms to criminals, the non-investigation of arson, illegal clearing of lands and the declaration by entrepreneurs of entertainment places on the radio that they are carrying guns on their side and preaching violence, and the DPP agreement with the defense that there was no intimidation when the friend of the PM holds a gun to the head of a bystander etc. These are all products of Trickle-down unlawfulness in the society.
Our young people appear to be misguided. People seem unsafe having fun without a weapon or gun in hand. The signals are uninspiring and devoid of law and order. We continue to ignore Behanzin’s calls to fix the legal system, while we allow murders on the streets on bail and we delay investigations into crimes committed by those of fame.
Something seems wrong in our Dominica but we cannot apportion blame to one set, while we seek to exonerate the rest. We are failing each other collectively, including the politicians, the police, the court and the entire legal system, the religious institutions and their leaders, civil society, the schools, the prison system, our communities, leaders and their followers, the voters and me and you. Somehow we have got to attempt to roll back this wave of lawlessness before the Tsunami of violence visits us.

    • Shameless
      June 4, 2012

The Tsunami is right at our door steps waiting to roll in.

Dominica’s crime is nothing compared to other places so just be quiet!!! Y’all want to see errthing on tv, copy cat and expect that there would be no crimes. This is what happens when a country gets/being developed, crime increases! These guys are thugs, they chose this life and shall die by it. No need to be fussing and fighting, pointing fingers all over and involving the mighty POLITICS.

I live in the Virgin Islands, where metal detectors/security meet you at the high school’s gate, 13 year olds carry guns, police where bullet proof vest 24/7 and thugs walk in the police stations and take back their property which was confiscated by the cops. And believe me, we got some messed up police officers here, they will make dominica’s police force look like preschoolers on ‘come as you like day’

Crime will always be there, stop fight over politics, shake up the police force and focus on the important areas…not these hoodlums

This terrible incident occurred in Dominica and at an entertainment place. I reside in Canada. A lot occurs here and it upsets law-abiding people as I. Nevertheless, we cannot water down, overlook, make excuses or compare those countries to what occurred in Dominica, a peace loving country.
Caring Dominicans as I, whether residents or non-residents have a right to be concerned and wished such would never occur.
Dominica and the Caribbean are suffering emotionally and economically from those crimes/ murders. Families have lost their loved ones and are grieving. Excuses should never be made for what occurs in DA and also for the perpetrators. If they loved their country, others for that matter and themselves, they would refrain from such evil actions which injure and take lives of others while they expect their freedom to walk the streets of this beautiful country. They should be dealt with the full brunt of the Law. I hope this occurs.
Let us pray for Dominica and never cease to do so; no exception all perpetrators that God may guide them to the path of righteousness.

No excuses. Those who bring guns and knives to also an entertainment place appear not to be out for having an amicable, enjoyable time. They bring them in the event that they get into an altercation with others and will use them. This is their intention.

This is the price of progress.. Look at the fella neck. Where was he working? what work was he into? How can anyone feel sorry for them. These young people need to listen. There are way too many gangs in the area. Young men are of the belief that they will live forever and that they are untouchable.

Whenever there is a shooting at a place like this, it is closed down temporarily. So lets see what new measures will be put in place.

People not act surprise at this. The young men create their livestyle and so this is one of the price to pay. There are others out there who need to take heed and change their lives. Stop bring stress on all you parents. You guys are not invincible, you will die young. give up that life of guns and drugs.

A man beat his wife is skerrit fault.. So te citizens of this country each soppose to have their own personal skerrit in their pockets to tell them this is wrong and tis is right? Guess what we all do and its called a conscience.. From the time a child is born they have a sense of right and wrong…shait man ….. Blame people wwo commit crimes..hang the murderers who murder ffor no reason… Cut of the gun yielding hand of those who carry illegal guns castrate the rapist…tell the parents to pay more attention to their children don’t let tv babysit your kids… Teach them the difference between real and acting… And please those responsible for the laws of this land we need steeper. Punishment for criminals let our children know crime don’t pay…murderers and rapist and drug lords roaming the streets corrupting the minds of our young ppl.. June 3, 2012

A few days ago I commented on a post where DNO ask to name the “Brians” three to be exact. Part of my comment was why was that important, and why can’t we focus on other major issues that surround the island such as violence, the economy, among a few other. Well some people responded, and most of it were negative, and am assuming its because i live abroad I should not have a say. “Assuming” Well the shooting last night does not suprise me at all, because I remember when I’d brag to people in University about how low our crime rate is,compare to other islands. I can’t say this now, seeing that in the last few years thugs are coming from everywhere with there bad habits and ruining DA’s reputation. And thats what I meant when I said the government needs to put tougher law in place to handle these types of situations, make them serve their time like they should in jail.Put gun laws in place, that will enable our law enforcements to charge those carrying any weapon without a valid liscence. God know’s that one does not know when and where these thugs will settle their score. So please try to report on things that we should be concerned about thats afecting the island, and we as a people can help fix, and for those who were being ignorant, yes its all good to play name the “Brians” :-) but damn first thing in the morning??

Whether it’s a death, accident, missing child, or even a celebration, it seems their are some people who take every opportunity to push some political agenda. For once, how about we look at the issue for what it is, that is, a young man has lost his life because of senseless actions. What does Skerrit or a Casino have to do with two men fighting, having an altercation or even choosing to come to a public place with a a weapon? We often claim that certain people in Dominica are treated like Gods (especially those affiliated with politics). However, we usually fail to see that the only people guilty of making them Gods is ourselves, since we are bent on giving them constant unnecessary attention. Gone are the days when people’s primary objective was to move towards positive things in life. Instead, we have surrounded ourselves with so much contempt and finger-pointing that we are treading backwards more and more. Again i will repeat, the issue today is that a young man lost his life and many families are now experiencing hurt and pain. Let’s instead pray to the one and only true God so that he can shower them with comfort in this difficult time. Let’s see how we can move forward as a nation. R.I.P young man. May God be with your family and all those affected.

Wew papa. It was so much better reading about naming all the BRIANS. When I lived in DA, I would tell myself when and if I were to live overseas I will avoid going to Public Social Events/Shows for fear of what we were hearing is happening on the outside.NOW its the other way round. I am living overseas and while I come home for some Festive Times, I am always ALERT, ready to Run for fear of what may or can happen. The saddest truth about this is In DA it is always someone we either know or probably a distant relative if not a close one, while overseas when it does occur it is most times “A PERSON GOT INJURED/SHOT.” you hear of on the news. DA is TOO small a community of people for these kind of crimes to CONTINUE happening.

First of all it would be better to refrain from critical complaint before more intimate details are are given of this incident. For example what initiated the fight. Having said that the establishment does have a responsibility to protect the patrons within its confines. In these aggressive times magnetic scans should be taken on on all patrons(male/female/incl employee etc ) that action alone may not eradicate aggression but it will serve to reduce its occurrence.

    • aint Ma Pau fault
      June 3, 2012

i agree. there should be magnetic scans.Furthermore, many of the previous persons who commented need to realize that its not the casino or skerro that made them commit the crime.that could have taken place anywhere! it’s very unfortunate that both men had weapons in their possesions; a gun and a knife. evil intentions=evil reactions

    • thumbs up

The priests and pastors raised them too? You people will give account for every idle word you speak. Always looking for hand outs – the problem is the youths you talk about know that others such as government, pastors, and other leaders will be blamed for their actions (as is the case here) so they don’t give a hoot!

When they stand before God they will use your “defense” also. “Lord, its the priests and pastors, not my fault”. Mount Sanai is no longer in the way, every man is given access to God – one on one relationship -and as such everyone is responsible for his own salvation.

Train up your own children in the right way and it will not depart from them. When the parent were enjoying the “sex” they call priest and pastor for some? so take care of your responsibilities.

Each man will know his own gnashing of teeth or his own ecstasy of joy and peace which is of Live–the nature of God–Life in the soul which is revived from its sleep of death.

Good morning Dominica. Now, let us not get carried away about this incident. The main question should be, Does the shooter has a license to carry the Firearm. If he has a license then he is allowed to protect his brothers life. Now if he do not have a license to carry the firearm then he should be arrested and charged with Homicide and illegal possession of a firearm. This did not happen to some innocent person who went to Krazy Kokonut rather this man was stabbing someone therefore he place himself in danger. I would like to offer my condolences to this man family and please Rest In Peace because you brought this onto yourself.

Dem kind of man there you cannot shoot them in they arm or they will come after you with a big gang. He do what he had to do… Imagine somebody starting slashing away at your brother and the only thing you have on you is a gun. You must panic and shoot the person.

      • Tony
        June 5, 2012

Hi, I disagree with your comment. A license gun holder meet the minimun requirements established by the authorities to be license and he/she is tought to shoot at center mass rather than shooting in the arm or leg. I was a Firearm instructor at the NYPD Firearm Range and we teach our officers to shoot for center mass not the arm, legs or head. It is difficult to shoot someone in the head unless you are at close range so we don’t teach to shoot that way. I am sadden by this incident but what would you do if someone is stabbing your family and you have the means to stop that person.

        June 3, 2012

What tony is saying is true and its a shame that Dominicans do not know this. He does have the right to protect his brother, but it all depends on the way it transpired. In a case like this eye witnesses are the key, if he shot the person during the time his brother was getting stabbed he has a case, only if the firearm is licensed. If he shot the individual in the back or at some point after his brother was stabbed then that calls for difference in motive. Now the fact that the shooter is on the run can also mess up his defense. Everyone has a right to defend them self in a case, until proven guilty. Dominicans should do the right thing and eye witnesses should come forward. Another thing is that i realise many people are throwing the blame on Skerrit or Krazy T, people who have nothing to do with these things (once again shows the simple-mindedness of many Dominicans). A casino generates revenue just like the lottery, in fact they are the same thing. The environment of these places have to be properly monitored, but even with that the event that happened cannot be blamed on the casino these are individuals who came to the event ready for whatever, having knives and guns which were not supplied by the venue owner. So why would it be his fault.

        RIP Harderz

        June 4, 2012

Hi, I did not say he should not be charged with Murder if he has a license. It depends on when he actually shot the man. If the perpetrator stopped stabbing his brother then he no longer possed a threat therefore he don’t have to shoot the man. If the shooter is arrested then it is up to a Grand Jury to determine if he was justified in using Deadly physical force to save someone life which was his brothers life.

      • Tony
        June 5, 2012

Hi, my position is very simple to understand. It depends on what time during the confrontation that he shot the man. If the perpetrator stop assualting his family then the threat no longer exist therefore he would not be justified in shooting. If he shot during the actual stabbing and if he has a license to carry the firearm then it’s a justify shooting. Another thing if you are a minister then you should join us and pray for our country.

    • Moi
      June 3, 2012

Very insensitive I must say. In the heat of the moment one’s first motive is to defend himself and survive, plus we know these guys (eh emmm) are known notoriously for being criminals. therefore, it does not strike me surprising that the deceased would attempt to defend himself with a knife. I am not condoning any violence but you must consider that he did not HAVE to die. He was killed out of retaliation and wickedness. A shot in the leg would have been fine. Remember that those who live by the sword will die by the sword and those who choose death instead of life will themselves perish and be remembered no more.

License or not if someone stabbing my brother id shoot!! Point blank… The question is who provoked who. And What could possibly provoke you so much that you had to resort to stabbing. If the person spoke with his mouth WHY STAB?. These guys think that they are God. A man can not talk with his mouth and you feel you have to stab. now in his defense his brother shot. Not saying it was right to shoot but i would not see my brother getting stabbed and not help. The shooter should be prosecuted as a murderer no questions asked , license or not! I prayer God sends comfort to the loved ones of the young men.

    • lewis
      June 3, 2012

its not permitted for anyone to carry a fire arm whether its license or not, into a club where partying, and alcoholic drinks are being served. It’s also not permitted for any person to discharge a firearm in a public place, unless there is an immediate and personal threat on his life by any individual, and this person honestly believes defending himself in such manner is the way to go. shooting and killing a person who is engaged in a fight with your brother will never be defined as anything but stone cold murder, since the life that was being threatened was the life of his brother and not his. there are so many things the shooter could have done to pacify this situation, discharging a loaded firearm in a place where there were lots of by standers is just inexcusable.praise God nobody else got shot.

      • Tony
        June 4, 2012

Hi, I agree with you that Firearms should not be carried into a club wether it is license or not. Now, I disagree with the last portion of your statement re: Stone Cold Murder”. In my post I said “If he had a License to carry the Firearm”, Then he would be justified in using Deadly physical force to terminate the assault on his brother but it also depends on when he actually used his firearm. My comments are based on the post from DNO and my twenty four years of lawEnfoncement in NYC as a member of NYPD. I have made arrest under similar circumstances as a Detective and I have supervised cases under such similar circumstance as a Detective squad supervisor. The bottom line is, this is not good for our citizens and let us hope such incidents don’t happen anymore. We must asked ourselves how are the guns getting into the country and what the Government and Police Department is doing to stem the flow of weapons into the country.

Yow, be real!!!!!! What, having a licensed gun……..is that a license to kill???? Come on man, get a grip!!!!! As far as I am concerned, the only persons who should be carrying guns around in public places are the police and they should also be aware at all times that they are accountable to the public and their responsibility to protect us from violence of any kind. Dominica is too small a place for everyone to feel it necessary to carry around a firearm. It is about time that this attitude is reversed! If you have an attitude such as this which allows persons to regard the carrying of firearms as normal behaviour, you are bound to have these incidents take place with more frequency. Hello, wake up!!!! Tell it like it is……….you live by the gun, you will most likely die by it but we need to encourage our youth to express love and tolerance to others in order to save our country and it’s reputation. My goodness, please my people, stop the foolishness!!!! At least one previous comment sounds like an absolute threat to lash back and kill in retaliation……..where are we going my people????????? Please………let us understand and recognise how beautiful our country will be if we all live together in love and peace……….God save us!!!!!!!!!!1 Peace!!

      @ Tony

A license to carry a gun for what? In Dominica? When they apply for a license, the question should be posed, “why do you want a gun and what are your plans to utilize it and for what reasons?” If they cannot provide a satisfactory reason, they should be denied the license and the gun should be confiscated. You should know that there are some people who should never be allowed to possess a gun or be given a license.

Only small minded people believe that the best way to settle a fight is to stand with some weapon which gives him an unfair advantage, and lashing out to kill, to take life and cause misery for those family members who had nothing to do with the argument in the first place> Folks, teach your children peace and love in order that they will stay away from these environments and you can live in peace. If you teach them to hate and lash out, they may end up dead just as these victims did. We must recognise as well that these guys may be this way through their own stubborn ways and contrary to the teachings of their parents but, if you teach your children to not go down that road from early in their lives, they may be more likely to avoid these incidents. A dumb comment made by a dumb person i suppose. firstly, trying to make “doe” into a real word isn’t possible because its created by Dominican dialect. So “though” in this case is totally out of content. Also, another reason i laugh at your comment is because you sound so naive and ignorant. In a case like this where does “next level” come in. Stop linking everything that goes wrong to politics and GROW UP!

The actions of theses individuals have to be their responsibility, yes. Absolutely!!!! However, the PM has the responsibility to respond to the increase in those incidents islandwide, on behalf of the citizens. Was 9/11 the fault of President George. W Bush??? Was he the one who sent these madmen to perform such an atrocity????? No, it was not!!! Yet it was his responsibility to formulate a response to this event!!! In the same way, it is the responsibility of the man who has taken the position of PM in Dominica, to respond appropriately. Yet he seems to be TOO silent!!! He seems unable to LEAD!!!He seems unable to instruct the police to formulate a response to tackle the situation……..unable to introduce the laws necessary to curb this attitude. Is it that he is unwilling to?? Is it that he is unable??? Does he really lead by example with all the ramblings coming from his mouth???? Is he disconnected from society??? He does appear to be…….so sorry to say.

      your idiot it happen outside

  167. June 3, 2012

I am deeply concerned and very sorry to hear about the incident at Crazy Kokonut. As the proprietor of an entertainment establishment, keeping the public safe is one of the most difficult jobs. We are living in a world where modern technology is as fast as blinking the eye, but with modernization crime and disrespect appears to go hand in hand. People have become less tolerant of each other and instead of coming out to enjoy themselves, they are all ready to fight and kill each other. I am almost afraid to host public affairs because of fear of the same violent incidents occurring at my establishment. When you are the one responsible for the lives of others, it is a job in itself. Trying to please the public is not an easy job, especially when everyone has their thoughts of how business should be conducted. In my mind, public safety is always first and foremost when hosting an affair. If I am not present during an affair, my first concern is whether or not there was violence. You might think this should not be of great concern to me, unfortunately, it is reality. Let us strive to be our brother’s keeper instead of his killer.

  168. tD20
    June 3, 2012

clearly we need to put in place standards that do not allow weapons to enter public places such as these. The temperaments of Dominicans are changing and we need to make the necessary adjustments that include weapon/metal detectors.

When law and order have no meaning to those in high office and their compatriots, then the trickle down effect is an absolute within the society at large. Now two or more families are weeping. No one wins in this situation.

May the deceased RIP and the wounded have a speedy recovery. To the man on the run, turn your self in and face your music for the police is not pursueing you simply to say hello! You are considered armed and very dangerous so please dont let your family loose you as well. Suicide by cop is NOT an option and the Rapid Response Team (SSU) will eventually “get” you.

First thing that has to be established is whether the firearm is one for which a license has been issued by the commissioner of police.

Did he shot the stabber whilst in the act of stabbing his brother?

If the answer to both questions is yes, he has a defense, as he would have acted to “preserve or save the life of another.”

If he acted after the fact and there are eye witnesses giving an account for same, his task is a bit more difficult.

Was the stabber shot in the front or back?

Should is be established that the firearm is one for which a license hasn’t been issued, regardless as to which of the above scenarios that might have presented itself, he is in trouble, as in the eyes of the law, one can’t defend himself or others through use of an unlicensed firearm.

‘bush’ is good. Dominica is unique in it’s beauty and should not try to model itself on the rest of the world. It’s the so-called development that causes so many of the problems.

Dominica has some huge problems. If the police and the gov think that not getting hard on it only affects us, the police will soon find out that they not safe either. maybe then and only then they will take these thugs seriously and deal with them accordingly

I think it is mor important to say what Krazy Kokonuts is -type of establishment than who owns it.

    • Looking in
      June 3, 2012

True, but is Krazy the only owner of this place? Who else has shares in it? Like other business places in Dominica, operating under one person name, but is owned by those in authority as well……
