Police are continuing the search for the men who escaped following a daring daylight armed robbery at the Marigot Credit Union.
Police PRO Kenth Mathew said that around 2:15 pm on Friday police were on patrol in Marigot when they came upon the robbery in progress.
The police were greeted with gunfire and a shootout ensued.
When the smoke cleared one robber was found suffering from gunshot wounds while the police vehicle was damaged by gunfire.
It is reported that the men wore bullet proof vests and camouflage clothing.
The robber was taken to hospital and is presently under police guard.
Police also recovered an Escudo rental, registered TG105 owned by Road Runner Rental, used by the men. The vehicle was reportedly stolen from a Canadian couple, who were robbed earlier in the day at Batibou.
Ammunition and cash, believed to be loot from the robbery, were recovered from the vehicle.

Why can’t the police publish the name and pictures of the suspect in custody. Surely, with such a small community we should be able to identify this guys associates. I agree with you this is extrajudicial. That is not the role of the police – it is the role of the courts-The police shoot a man in his head or face only if his or his partners lives are in trouble. No matter how bad these bandits are it is a democratic country and the police and the courts have their roles. It seems like these policeman in spite of their bravery are also lacking in training.

the first thing that need to be done is stock taking of all bullet proof vest given to police to make sure that there is not a crook amongst you all i am also a police officer and i know and i have seen it happen and then continue the investigation from here.

All bullet proof vest given to a police officer,should be accounted for and properly documented.In a society like Dominica in this modern times,you cannot take the vest from the police,because as we can see, these robbers can strike anytime.My suggestion is to have the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force increase to about 700 members as soon as possible.All police officers MUST be armed. That’s what happened in Barbados in the late 1980s after a number of robberies of tourists which theatened to bring down their tourism economy.As citizens of this country we have a part to play ,by helping the police to apprehend any suspected criminal activities in the country. I am appalled that in this country that we done have the manpower and technology to fight these crime.

Where is the Minister for National Security I haven’t heard him say anything about the crimes taking place on the island. Especially, the crimes against the tourist visiting our island. The Minister of National Security needs to address the nation. Let us see that he is against what is taking place. Tourism is everybody business and some of us our bread and butter, so therefore, we can’t have a few destroy that for us. We need to step up and destroy them instead with new laws, no bail….

This crime is easily solved.
The primary clue is the bullet proof vest!
Secondary clue, is the camouflaged uniform, although that can be obtained from any regular army outpost store in the United States, or even in a swapmeet on any day of the week.
Now if the police investigate every known Dominican now residing on the island who had military training in the United States, and served in the United States Military they may find the culprits.
The key is the bullet proof vest, if that sort of defensive ware is obtainable in Dominica, it must be something issued to the police, or some special force, or forces!
Check the police officers, and special forces officers, and see who, or how many of then are missing their bullet proof vest.
Other than that it had to be brought into Dominica, by someone who has served in some military force, and even at that it might be stolen, because it is not something that can be bought on the open market easily!
And when one gets out of the military in the United States, one is not allowed to leave with army issued bullet proof vest!
Certainly, there is a place in Columbia, in south America, where they are manufactured, the price I doubt any petty thief in Dominica can afford unless that person is a drug dealer. On the other hand capturing the culprits involved in this broad daylight armed robbery may lead to the person who murdered the guy a notorious criminal himself, who was shot down in broad daylight among a crowd of people.
That murder was carried out by a sniper, one with military training, that sort of marksmanship is not easily obtained, there is nobody in the Dominica police force to compare with that sort of shooting and max-man-ship.
And finally to the person who called themselves ” Country ” let me tell you there is no way you can make comparisons to crime in Dominica, and Crime in America.
First of all you live on an island which comprises less than fifty thousand people, I live in a city with is surrounding cities with a population of more than thirteen million.
I feel safer here than on the streets of Wesley where I was born, there are more crime in Dominica per capita than in all of America.
You need to see it that way.
Where it pertains to crime in our country, we have broken every record on earth.
Nonetheless, I suppose if we want to be the true nature island of the world, we do have to operate in a primitive way, thus, we have now become a nation who does not operate from our God given senses, we are simply operating by instincts as animals, that is why we rob steal and kill without a conscience so often in Dominica.

Shooting people in the name of justice is one thing, but so many of you seem happy if someone is dead and still put god in your comments. There are other ways to stop Crime. It would be a good idea to build a special prison for these people who think that crime and violence is the way.
why waste our country’s money and build another prison. that money can be used to do something else worthwhile to create revenue in the country. The only solution i see there is to shoot them on the spot or bring back hanging and death row and change that court system. The money for the state house could have been spent on professionalizing and enhancing Dominica’s police force and coastguard. I agree with you. In a case such as this where there’s no doubt of of guiltiness of the person involved, the name and picture of the person should be posted up. That was the general public could immediately help the police with their investigations as far as they might have seen the person conspiring with their gang sometime before the robbery helping the police with ascertaining alliances.

To all those that are crying shame on the police, consider this, if the police came up on an unarmed crime in progress, or if the criminals had a weapon of less deadly force (i.e. a stick or a knife) then they should shoot to disarm (shoot the leg, arm, etc.). Once the criminals start shooting at the police, then they have every right to defend their lives and that of innocent bystanders.
I say right now the police should focus on blocking off all pathways of exit for these idiots. Put pressure on them, they will make a mistake sooner or later. Also, they should consider leaving the hospitalized punk practically unguarded. By now the police should have his mug shots plastered all over the place. It would certainly help in picking up his accomplices. Also, he must have have been involved in other similar crimes, and this would give his past victims the opportunity to ID him.

The police encountered these guys so they have a good idea of what their physical make up is. They have one of them in custody, why not check for known associates and family members that match the description. Then post their pics so people know who to look out for.

Road Runner Rental again? This seems very fishy and needs to be seriously investigated. The last three or four robberies involved a road runner rental that was stolen from toursit after they themselves were robbed. Is there a road runner personel involve in this crimes? seems like someone is keeping track of the tourist after they rent vehicles from this company…. come on investigators, it is worth looking into there is too much at stake and this is getting to far and must be stopped
I highly doubt it. It would make a-lot more sense that you use a stolen car instead of one you own, It only means that the criminals and crimes are all connected not the company, But anything is possible.

My advise to the Police is to set up immediately an APB- an All Points Bulletin- That may involve road blocks at strategic points of the island and carrying out random searches of vehicles and their occupants -use the traffic police the drug squad and the SSU – this weekend should be since as a police state an island wide police check – let those guys be on their toes- the ones who did it are aware that the police will be searching for them amd the police presence at variuos points will keep them very nervous – when they see police in an active mode they will be on edge because they are not sure what the police know or what lead they may have and what they are in the village/ town or area for – they will most likely and obviously think that the police are on their track – and that can lead them to act suspiciously and stupidly -these are strategies that have worked for law enforcement all over -speaking from experience.
