US Supreme court backs deportation of Caribbean nationals

deportedThe US Supreme Court has ruled that it will not block the deportation of thousands of Caribbean and other immigrants who pleaded guilty to serious crimes two years ago.

The immigrants had not been warned by their lawyers that they would be targeted for deportation.

The law calls for mandatory deportation for Caribbean and other immigrants, including lawful permanent residents, who have an “aggravated felony” on their record.

In a 7-2 decision, the justices refused to apply the ruling retroactively to cases of immigrants who had unintentionally pleaded guilty before 2010.

its sad that they have found a way to sift some of us….so many of us are up here and doing well.
Why does the US only want the brainier ones?…have some of you not considered that too.

Let common sense prevail. It is not that the US wants the brainier ones. There are many immigrants who are not brainy. Some of them are not able to read, write, spell and English for that matter. Consider also refugees. You should know that those who commit crimes and serious ones stand to be deported.

Send their back the country of their birth. You cannot tell me you immigrated to another country and instead of making a better life for yourselve the best you can do is adopt all the bad habits of Americans?

I know of some such people. Within 3 days after they arrive they start talking like Yankee. Six months later they they start doing the same nonsense as the poor black Americans. I have no use for those people. Send them back.

This is a very tough issue. While I understand the reasoning behind it, because it is being done here in Canada also, I do not fully agree with it. I believe that there should be criteria for deportation.

For example, if you have a criminal who from the age of, say 3, has been living in America, and for all intent and purposes is Americanise, is it fair to deport that person, say to Dominica, because that person is not a US citizen?

I don’t think so – this person is not a product of a Dominican environment and has not been socialised that way. I believe that in cases where the criminals have no soical relationship with their birth country, then, they should be allowed to stay in the US…because they are permanent residents there.

On the oherhand- if it’s an illegal immigrant with no standing, then, that argument can take a different turn. However, i’m still in support of the Americans adn Canadas keeping the products of their environment – legal or illegal.

Don’t send them back to where they have no ties

The Canadian government has been lenient with such people and with the help of their lawyers. Canada has bent over to accommodate them and to keep them here. However, enough is enough as crimes/murders escalate. Those people are a menace to society and do not have intentions of changing.
There is a criteria for deportation from Canada. The Federal government has recently changed it by passing a Bill. Keep in mind, the opposition also approved it.
The same will apply to those who reside in Toronto as in the U.S. Did you listen to the Toronto news and read the newspapers including the Caribbean, ethnic ones? Go to their Websites and read this news.
It is fair to deport those who are not born in the country and who do not live by the Law. They must comprehend that it is not their country and they should live accordingly. If they do not, they must bear the consequences and pay the price of their actions. It costs taxpayers money to keep them in prison and when they keep appealing with free lawyers’ defense.
Start a campaign to assist them and educate them to live within the Law. The majority of us have lived within the Law. We live peacefully. We do not have a police record. We are model naturalized Canadian citizens. This is what those who migrate to another country should do so that they do not get into trouble. They must also not associate with bad company. They are old enough to know that. They have also rejected God and do not go to Church and pray. It is easy for evil to befall those who neglect God. They do not have his blessings and graces.
Too often in this case the government is being blamed and not the criminals. They cause others anxiety and hardshhip. These brought it upon themselves. Governments are no longer putting up with their criminal ways. May it be a lesson to others.

Read the info properly people. Its only those with a felonly after 2010. So how many Dominicans do you think from 2010 to present have committed a felony. I really dont think that the number is that big. Still we should still prepare for their arrival, maybe by having a programme in place for them. Some sought of rehab or guidance for them and our own home criminals.

It may not be only Dominicans. As it is stated, those from the Caribbean. This means every West Indian island and other countries in the Caribbean. It obviously also includes Haiti and such countries. They tend to lump everyone in one basket. This is why it is stated ‘Caribbean.’

I’ve been in the us 15 yrs I hope some of u idiots realise that a very large percentage of those so called criminals were wrongly convicted in the first place many of which were just a product of their environment that was created by that same government in the first place. Getting charged with a felony in the us is as easy as breathing. Many petty crimes in da that we overlook can fit the criteria as a felony in the us especially if u are black.

Well then you should realise you are not in Dominica and have to follow the rules and regulations of that country. Why did you have to bring up the issue of colour -if you commit a crime it is your fault -the colour of your skin does not determine your behaviour.

      • (.) (.)
        February 27, 2013

Guess you have not travelled out of Dominica. And, it would be a waste of time trying to explain ‘colour of skin’ issue. Only when living in the U.S. for some time and experience what some folks experience one can truely understand what it is

OK, i AM GOING TO USE A BIT LESS RESTRAINT ON THIS ONE.
The guys who went up to the U.S generally went up there as good citizens.
Like 25% of young black americans they found themselves in jail for one crime or the other as it seems that their system creates this as it leaves a large section of their population in poverty while the top 1% take all.
Well a lot of ambitious young men do not decide to work at McDonald’s making min wages until their death.
So they have ORGANIZRD themselves into gangs which have contacts throughout the country.
Now this organization is going to hit our shores.
Think about the FACT that gangs are now having meetings in Antigua with their U.S counterparts.
I do feel sorry for shameless and others who simply do not understand.

America did not bread no criminals. If I send my child to your home and they are disrespecting you, giving you a hard time, raising your blood pressure, would you still keep my child? “NO”! You would send them back to me. If someone is not born in a country and they give u a green card, or citizenship by paper, it is a privilege and not a right. You have to respect the country.

Countries of the world have to deal with their own criminals, why would they want more. Haven’t you heard of all the people Trinidad is deporting?
Every country have a right to send any one back to where they belong once they are not behaving and doing criminal activity. Right is right, wrong is wrong.

We have people committing so much gruesome crimes in Dominica these days, and some of them have never come to America. Call a spade a spade. Everyone has to be responsible for their own actions. There are good and evil. We have to choose. We do the crime, Dominica or in another country, we have to do the time, and stop blaming.

    February 27, 2013

This is not joke. For those of you not living in Dominica, you have no idea how seriously this affects our quality of life here on a small island. Many of these criminals do not have any links here and grew up in the US from childhood, (so yes, they have been bred in the US) and Yes the US is looking out for itself. How does a country deport ‘lawful permanent residents’? THAT is unlawful, but the US has been doing it for decades, whenever they think it’s convenient.. They deported Marcus Garvey in 1927 for obvious reasons.. to them he was an ‘uppity negro who challenged the establishment. That type of treatment was also normally reserved for Nazis etc…

This is impacting on the entire Caribbean. So these criminals are ‘permanent residents’ when it’s convenient and ‘unlawful when it’s not?

These criminals have no sense of community and will return here to terrorize and embarass the few relatives they may have here and the community they settle in.

Who tracks these criminals? There should be a proper offender registry so these criminals are handed over to the local Police and should have to report weekly. People should be informed as they have the right to know that criminals are moving into their neighbourhoods.. these could be rapists, murderers, child molesters… well I guess soon our crime rate will be like the US, but on a 289 sq. ft island, the impact could be like a Tsunami… eventually. We should be happy we are not Jamaica, think of the number of criminals who will be deported there..

I think the USA should hlep the caribbean with the constructon of a prison in two cuntries send all those who did not utilize the Green Card given to them. For their ungratefulness they should be headed straight to a PRISON not free to destroy the innocent of our countries of their high glass crmes

Why the reason they are sending them home is the cost of keeping them in jail-they want to save money not spend it.

  18. Shameless
    February 26, 2013

While this decision is painful and will have a significant impact on the caribbean both in the short and long term, we must accept the fact that the US will always protect its own. We cannot go to the people’s country and start committing crimes. In this regard I support the USA 1000%. Send all criminals back where they came from. Period!

Well, look trouble. It`s reported on U.S.media that the move is to reduce the exorbitant amount of money being spent to care for those prisoners in various jails in the U.S., hence that decision was taken to deport them back to their orginal country. It`s a double wamie for our small poor country and others, who have to bare that burden on top of what we already have to deal with. It is no secret that such a move is going to have devastating effect on our small economy, a rise in crimes and our Quality of life will suffer, and futher plunge our poor Island to the brink of despair, More law enforcement, a bigger prison, ect, ect, . Lesson here, they have no use for them therefore dump them back where they came from. Regardless how long some left Dominica and have no significant ties at home. Hope our Government decides to do the same with those over seas prisoners we have at our prison, who are serving time for various crimes, lets make room for our own’ “tit for tart”. fair game, in my opinion. All law abding Dominican look out!lets be each others keeper. You see something say something. Get ready for caios and problems, lets not say we were not ready, cause ready or not they are coming.

where government going to get jobs for hundreds of hardened criminals? Ou ka parle sot, man.

Governments of the region cannot even find jobs for school leavers far less the breed of criminals these people have become in the land of hope and gory. Not even prayers will help you with this one. This should be illegal. Dominica is not yet even awake to the kind of nuts that are coming, and DA is so small there is no place to separate ourselves.

I say that this should be illegal. America bred their criminls they should be made to keep them. Is that the relations America have to share with us? Take them, make life so hard for them that they become inhuman, and then send them back to us. Transfer of technology, yea!

        Have you lost your mind??

These Caribbean nationals were given the opportunity to make a better life for themselves. Instead they have decided to involve themselves in criminal activitiies. CAN YOU UNDERSTAND THAT??

Instead you are blaming the US & not the criminals?

Come on, we must all take responsibility for our action thus our lives.

I support the deportation. I would also support the caribbean governments FINGER PRINTING all of these criminals on their return.

They all need to be placed on a special…… “CRIMINAL WATCH LIST”. Why? Because these are the type of criminals who will increase our crime rate!!

        -Thanks
