Webster Edmund of Layou has been remanded in police custody in connection with the Shanice Jemmot matter when he appeared in court Friday.
He is facing ten counts of criminal offense.
Edmund is believed to have held Jemmot 15, hostage for 40 days. Edmund, who had also disappeared during that time, was discovered by police in the Hillsborough Estate area Monday. The police reported that he led them to Jemmot.
The charges brought against Edmund include possession of firearm to endanger life, kidnapping, unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition, possession of marijuana and possession of the said drug with intent to supply. He pleaded guilty only to the drug charges.
The first round of investigation into some of the matters concerning Jemmot’s disappearance will be heard in the St. Joseph court on April 4, 2011.

These 2 were allegedly in a relationship (or something like it) for a number of years. She’s like alot of our young ladies in D/a right now: liking nice things that parents don’t want to, or can’t, provide. She was allegedly exposed to that lifestyle because of her mother, who liked to get nice things from men. This is part of the reason she no longer resided with her mother, but stayed with her granny instead. Not having father around much can also lead a young lady to desire an older man, thinking he can give her all the affection shes missing. This is all from a very reliable source close to he investigation, however, I still say its all alleged because I did not hear it from either horse’s mouth. My assumption is that Shanice went with her ‘boo’ willingly & something went terribly wrong. Who knows, she was probably complaining to him about home life & he made plans for them. Put yourself in her shoes & think about it. My husband is 13yrs my senior & if I was Shanice’s age with a man 13yrs older, I wouldve been making plans to get away if I thought life would be sweeter with him. God be with both of them!

i understand the anger everyone feels, but there are two sides to a story and there is so much more to this incident than anyone will ever begin to understand. people have every right to be angry, mad, upset or however you want to put it, but in the same breath we have to uncover every stone in this sensitive matter, the police need to investigate this matter thoroughly and treat everyone like a suspect!
I feel sorry for this young lady and what she went through..I’m not gonna judge her in any way because I cannot even begin to understand how she feels. Right now as a people whe should stand up for her and support. When we begin to see her on the streets we should not put her down in any way but encourage her to continue living her life, and just show her some love and support..

If we have so much to say. I think it would have been much better to come together and search the bushes nearby thoroughly. There are so many other victims and offenders out there but the system pays no mind to it. For example, when parents, villagers and even more importantly teachers know that there are children being abuse by elders in their school and nothing is done about it,it is extremely disturbing. When Welfare or whoever is the one making the decision to allow kids to live with so call foster parents that are of no good example, what do you expect?
We need to address this matter at the root. Have the right people educate council and question all the kids periodically. I guarantee you if you go to any school now and interogate throughly the results would be alarming. A data base should be kept for all sex offenders. Stiffer punishment should be given.
Shanice is under observation, no doubt, physically and mentally. Keep in mind after her trauma of living under abnormal conditions and a scary one at that she needs all the relevant which is available. Obviously someone in authority is present with her. In time she will be sent home.

The matter’s on 4.4.11 at St. Joseph is not the first round in investigations in relation to Shanice’s disappearance. Maybe if DNO was present and listening at the court, then they would have heard that the matter on 4.4.11 is a separate matter. The matter where Shanice is involved comes at a much later date. You could always call court section for details before wrong information is given. I see these mistakes too often on DNO.

I think this situation also brings to the forefront a serious issue in Dominica. Our fathers do not take an active part in their children’s lives and therfore open them up to these situation. I have never heard any mention of her fater nor has he said anything during this ordeal.
Dominican men need to stand up and be fathers to their childre. Love them, protect them, provide for them, guide and protect them. By so doing, you will help to shield them from these situations and provide a solid foundation on which they are able to build their lives.
I think Shanice’s father appears to be one of the typical sperm donors in Dominica who leave their children to be brought up by single mums, who many times are the sole providers, nurturers, disciplinarians who play both roles. It is to difficult a role.

I have to agree with bata kalinago. Kwayib if DNO and the Police were really listening to some of the viewers the child would have been within the first few weeks. Some of us posted some valuable search options on DNO and if they were exercised it would not have taken 40 days. Speaking on behalf of some people I know, if we were in Dominica we would have had our own search parties. DNO and the Police held valuable information from the public. DNO posted the comments it felt like posting.

my sentiments exactly. Too many men getting away with sleeping with minors, sometimes their own kids. But I also think the entire community has to play police and speak up! Plenty people know and keep quiet.
A child is a child, is a child! Period! she cannot make a decision to voluntarily abscond with a big man. He is the adult in the situation and should not have even entertained the idea “if” she was the one who presented it. Why do we always try blaming the children? Children will always be children and they will always make inappropriate decisions for whatever reasons. While I agree he is still innocent under the law, I pray and hope he will receive the maximum punishment allowable under the law for every one of the charges he is found guilty of. Only then justice will be served.

God goodness sake, they are not judging him per se. Do not put you hand in fire for that man. They are judging what he did, being interested in a 14 year-old child. He may have taken her away against her will as she was walking to school. He was found with a gun and drugs. He held her captive for 40 days.

Edmond would have problem when he’d wake up one morning to find that his rod is invisible, he can feel it but he just cannot see it, the next day it is as BIG as his leg, the next day it remains erect the entire day, the next day it is hot like lava then cold as ice, then he urinates blood one day pus the next then the rod just keep banging up and down with lightning speed then and only then would Edmond have problems!

hey chick the bible also says abide under the rules of the land. So if you do wrong it is only right that you get the punishment the land gives for your wrong. Did Mr Edmund commit a horrible crime or not? Listen weather it be you, me or our children that commit a crime, that person should pay. I take it you are a Christian and so I am. I know we all have problems and are not perfect but if anyone, including me commits such a crime – that person should pay for his crime….

The police did a great job at finding the child and capturing this monster without loss of life or grave injury to anybody involved. hats of to our law men. Now i hope that some judge does not throw away this effort by giving that man a minor sentence or showing him lenience in court.

Yes thank God but this child may be scared for life. Sometimes people in situation like this wish that there life would have been taken, they feel embarrass, especially in Dominica where everyone tent to make the victim feel like it was their fault.

i agree with you. They should really bring back the hanging thing. I mean Dominicans are getting worst i remember the days you could leave your homes open and go and no one would go in, the days when you could leave your kids with family members, times when you didn’t need burglar bars to protect your house. Now before you step out you have to lock your door, even if you are home your doors are closed, you can’t trust to leave your children with family members.You are inside your house and people rubbing you at gun point. People don’t respect people anymore. What is this??? Someone need to make an example. Dominica should not have gotten this bad.
