Behanzin to host lecture on the life of Rosie Douglas

Former Prime Minister Roosevelt 'Rosie' Douglas

Roseau, Dominica – October 13, 2010: Tiyani Behanzin, son of former Prime Minister, the late Rosie Douglas, will host a lecture on the life of his father on Friday, October 15, the actual  birth date of Douglas.

The event will take place at the UWI School of Continuing Studies on Elmshall Road from 7:30 pm.

The topic for the lecture is: New Perspectives on the Legacy of Rosie Douglas. The lecture will focus on the significant contribution that Douglas made to the advancement of black people worldwide, the empowerment of young people through education and the ideals and aspirations that propelled him to dedicate his life not to himself but in the service of others.

Behanzin, born in Canada at the height of his father’s involvement in the civil rights struggle, is expected to provide new perspectives on what should be done to build on the solid foundation laid by  Douglas. He will provide fresh thoughts and ideas on what he believes would be a lasting legacy and a fitting tribute to the memory of his father.

Tiyani Behanzin

In some ways, Behanzin has followed in the footsteps of his legendary father. He obtained a b achelor’s degree in political science from the same university Rosie attended and graduated in 1966, Sir George Williams University, now Concordia University.

Behanzin also travelled to Libya on many occasions with Rosie in the 1990s. He spoke on his platform in the Paix Bouche constituency in the 1990 General Elections, alongside noted Black Power advocate, Kwame Toure, formerly known as Stokely Carmichael.

Mr. Douglas did a lot for the region and he was love and hate by many for such is life. I have listen a lot of stuff and also listen to Tiyani and I think the young man is a breath of fresh air, especially talking about the law and the penalties. All the best to Tiyani in what he does, some persons may not like the messenger but please listen the message and you will learn something.

Comrade Roosie -jah sent you and used you for reasons known and unknown,,,the sad thing is that you were so greatly misunderstood and many HYPOCRITES now playing like they were part of your vision—the present DLP–is surely in line with your vision –=which other party can??. I will attend the lecture on this day you were born as a form of respect for your selflessness.

The late great Honorable Roosevelt Douglas was a great man. I believe that it is useful for us to get his son’s Tiyani Behanzin’s perspective as well. Let’s hear what the gentleman has to say about his late father. Once I have the time I will attend this lecture.

@Roxy: The man’s name change has nothing to do with you or anyone else. It has nothing to do with his relationship with his father. Typical Dominicans….you all take little issues and make a big deal out of it but when you all do come across big issues, you simply sweep it under the carpet. The man has explained on several occasions the reason for his name change. Every single person has a right to change their name to whatever t hey want to. Give the man a break.

@Wait A Minute: It’s sickens me that when you all hate ssomeone, or when you all are jealous of someone, you do anything to belittle that person. I believe if you do your research properly you will find out how close Rosie and Tiyani were. Do u recall Tiyani going all around the north with Rosie campaigning for election? Do you have any idea how many trips the took together when Rosie was seeking funds for Dominicans? Do you know that their relationship was more than father and son? They were father and son plus very good pardners. Stop that attack on the man. You people sicken me. STUPES!!!

Well done,Lil’ Bro….It’s imperative that we keep his memory, and legacy alive….lest they forget.
Boy ,do we need a great orator,a great motivator, and a great mobilizer now….In this times of difficulties, and uncertainties.

He stood up for what he believed in, and was dedicated to his work,to the cause,to the struggle worldwide, Dominica, and the People of Dominica…….But most of all, he stood up for JUSTICE!
Sadly,he was taken from us much too soon……..
Gone, but he,shall never be forgotten…….

Keep on keeping on, my brother, and don’t let no one stop you!…

    All the best to you…..and…
    Profound Peace!!

How I knew this was coming!!!!! As Bob Marley said: “You may fool many, but NEVER a few”. All this bravado in the magistracy and keeping yourself always in the headlines was leading to one thing and one thing only, and that is: to set up yourself to seek political office!! In fact Tiyani I saw right through you from the start!!

With the Bubles verdict now behind you, I guess you now believe that the time is now right to ‘move to the next level” BUT elas, Sir, with all due respect to you sir, I KNEW ROSIE, I KNEW WHAT ROSIE STOOD FOR, AND YOU, TIYANI ARE NO ROSIE!!!!! In fact, you may try to fool people into making them believe that you and Rosie were sooo close, BUT, those of us who know better know that this is furthest from the truth and at the right time, YOU WILL BE EXPOSED!!

Anyway, better think of a constituency to run, since Portsmouth is not up for sale and your charade of using comarade Rosie’s good name to attempt to get elected to office is not going to work!! We know your true political leanings, and so does Rosie (God Bless His Soul!!)
