The Boetica Cultural Group will be celebrating its 25th anniversary during the next several months under the theme, “Celebrating a Milestone of Cultural Promotion and Preservation.”
The celebrations will kick off on Sunday July 14, 2013 with a thanksgiving Mass at the Boetica chapel and a gospel concert at 3:00 pm at the Boetica primary school.
The beginning of the celebration coincides with the third anniversary of the death of two members of the group who lost their lives when they drowned at sea, in the Secret Beach Area.
Prior to the Gospel concert will be the official launch of the activities.
In attendance will be the Parliamentary Representative for the La Plaine Constituency, Petter Saint Jean, Chief Cultural Officer, Raymond Lawrence, District Development Officer, Helen Francis and Chairman of the Boetica Village Council..
A number of activities will be held throughout the year and will include Traditional Toys and Games Festival, educational sessions, dance workshops, a camp fire , community service projects, Independence celebrations, christmas concert, christmas dinner, hike a segment of the Waitikubuli National Trail and a senior citizens appreciation day, among others.
The activities will climax in the month of January with a Grand Culture Fete, when the group hosts a group of American University students in a night of “local buffet and culture.”
The group has been hosting this activity for the past eight years.
The Boetica Cultural Group which has been participating in national cultural events for many years, more particularly the National Cultural Gala, are the recipients of the National Youth Council Award for Culture and Heritage.
They’ve also produced a compact disc of traditional songs and the production of a DVD of traditional dances.
