Omee’s “Murderer” cops another award

Mighty Omee promises more calypsos in the future
Mighty Omee receives another award for his popular “Murderer”

The Carnival season is over but the impact that vision-impaired, new comer to Calypso Kerwin “Mighty Omee” Casimir has made with his captivating hit “Murderer”, lingers.

In the space of two weeks, Omee has collected a second award. At at a brief ceremony at the Calypso House on Friday, he was presented with the Calypso in Defence of God’s Image award, a collaboration between the National Youth Council (NYC) and the Dominica Social Justice and Peace Committee (DSJPC), .

“I feel so elated,” said a beaming Casimir after receiving a cheque of EC$1000. He thanked everyone who worked with him “I also want to thank the creator for life, thanks a lot…I’m going to put it in the bank,” he stated.

Recently, he received the joint Road March title with veteran calypsonian Woksok.

Speaking at the ceremony, Father Franklyn Cuffy of the DSJPC said there were a number of songs that could have gotten the 2014 award.

“This year there were a number of songs, for example Hunter’s song which talks about the child abuse, and I thought that it was a very powerful song. The tribute to Mama by Daddy Chess that was a good song as well. Baby Machine I thought that was a very good song as well,” he said.

“But the song, Murderer, I think speaks directly to our topic, World Respect Life Day and the Dominica Social Justice and Peace day of promoting a culture of life, and we are looking at and we think of the dignity of the person and we have an overall theme promoting God’s likeness,” he added.

President of the National Youth Council of Dominica, Jahisiah Benoit, said that there are three reasons why Casimir was chosen.

“Mr. Casimir, he really exceeded the competition in all respects, firstly the lyrics, were lyrics that everyone could identify with and spoke directly to several issues. Secondly we want to commend him for being involved in writing the song, and thirdly we are aware that his vision is somewhat limited, but that is only vision through the eye sight. Vision of things that are affecting the world, vision of the positive outlook for Dominica I think he’s in fact above and beyond any of us in terms of the vision he has for our society.”

Benoit added that for these reasons, “we felt that Mr. Casimir indeed deserves this award” and said the group wanted to commend Casimir publicly for his “outstanding work.”

“and we have an overall theme promoting God’s likeness,” he added” News Article

The only reason I am here at this news article is because of the statement above–for a word of encouragement to the “Mighty Omee”. Kerwin Casimir

Kerwin I do not know exactly, what are the words in your theme–“promoting the Likeness of God”– but I want to believe that those words are in reference to “Love” for God is Love; and He created man in His “Image” and “Likeness”.

The apostle tells us that “Jesus” who called Himself the “Son of Man” was in the express Image of God the Father. Jesus the Son, demonstrated the “Likeness” of the Father in Him, the ways of Life, which were His attitude and conducts of Love–to the glory of the Father–Eternal Spirit, Christ who lives in Him.

Now, young man–Kerwin Casimir– I also want to believe that you were a messenger of God in the crowd of “Carnival revelers”–it was among crowds like those that Jesus chose to speak the message of Life for it is among those crowed that Jesus knows Life is needed. And that was what the Pharisees, the Sadducees, or the Scribes of His days on Earth did not understand about Him.

My advice to you is stay humble–don’t allow the thoughts of fame and popularity to take away that virtue in you, for that is the reason you would not go further than where you are today.

Pay attention to what God is saying to you, by your channel of faith in Him. Don’t ever forget that He can only do His work of Salvation through those whom He has chosen to do so.

If you are one us, continue in faith, through trust, humility, and obedience to His command. By the power of His Holy Spirit, God will direct you to the places He has planned for you to go.

I truly believe that this is not about the things of carnival–it is about the things of Life which is from God–take heed of His commands for your Life. Blessings!

Well deserved hope the Church uses this song as their news Anthem with the permission of the singer of course. In my opinion MR.OMMIE sang his with strong conviction, and I am sure it hit home with lots of persons in a way the Church sometimes struggle to do.
