The Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) is working on an initiative to ensure that there is entertainment between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm on Carnival Monday and Tuesday.

This initiative, CEO of the DDA, Colin Piper explained, stemmed from the stagnancy during that period, due to the end of the official parades and hours before the costume or t-shirts bands come out.

“I happened to be watching Mas Dominik and one of the bystanders was lamenting the fact that from 1:00 pm there was nothing to do — that the parades had stopped and there was nothing to do — and I said ‘Boy, 1987 to 2016, and we’re still lamenting the fact that from 1:00pm to 3:00 pm, we’re trying to solve that problem of how to provide something on the street,'” he said at a press conference on Wednesday.

Piper stated that steelpan groups are being considered to fill the void with musical entertainment.

“We want to, in the area of Old Street, try to put a stage and have some entertainment there between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. And, we’ve been reaching out to some of the steelpan groups in particular,” he stated.

He stated that with the recent call for more involvement of steelpan groups in Carnival activities, most groups are already engaged in other activities but the invitation remains open.

He said groups that are willing to perform should contact the Dominica Festivals Committee.

A plea was also made to vendors, to profit from the increased activity during the lunchtime hours.

“We wanna also make an appeal to vendors that because we’re trying to have that area have some activity during the lunch time hour, that that may be an area which they wish to consider for setting up their vending stalls,” Piper noted.

He stated that the plan is to provide entertainment during the lunchtime hour is “in the final stages,” and updates on its progress will be provided.

When I’m in Church praising my God they call me “hypocrite.” Now that they are praising theirs I have nothing to say. Religious and occult people are the same. They won’t leave God people alone.

What happen, Carnival 2016 is becoming a Plan-As-You-Go event? Is Collin Piper serious? I like his cool and calm character but Collin appears to be totally unsuitable and overwhelmed for the job and responsibilities that he holds.
Less than two weeks he is introducing a new event but from his comments, it’s doomed to fail because it appears that someone brought up the idea last night and Collin says, let’s go for it.
Collin, to be quite blunt, I think you should find another job, you have reached your point of saturation, your climax and you really have nothing more to offer.
What a shame, because on the surface you look good but with just a bit of scrutiny, you are just as incompetent as your employers.
