Calypsonian Derose has captured the Champ of the Camp crown.
At least 21 calypsonians competed in the event which took place at the PSU grounds on Valley Road and ended early Friday morning.
Soul Puss came in second, Daddy Miller came third and Vigilante fourth.
Derose, whose real name is Dexter Peltier, is known for his song ‘Ba yo Babalen.’
He is expected to compete in the national calypso show slated for Saturday night at Carnival City in Pottersville.

All I will say is this – Don’t be surprised if Derose comes out of this Calypso Finals a winner even if he loses. He might have more to gain from losing with a bias judge than to losing without a bias judge.

It is a French or Creole word; ‘Bla Balene’.In the early days candles were made from ‘Whale Blubber’,now it is made from synthetic wax but the creole name remains; Balene=Whale and Blubber=Bla.
