There is nothing unique about Mercury costume every year is the same thing feathers and swim suit there is no creativity just a different color. If you guys really want to win try something different.

If we have to create a great carnival product the likes of Mercury need to rethink, its like copying Trinidad & Rio. We need home grown ideas

And that what they don’t like, it’s mostly young people and they can’t stand that. Yes we are DE best party band there is and no one can stop that ……. every year we run things on the streets of Roseau, its just one big party. We work hard and party harder they can’t STOP that. We run things, things don’t run we.

Work on managing your band Mercury. Next yr, dont let ur members who paid their long $450-$500 get frustrated with late arrival of costumes, and give them their costumes early so they dont have to dress on the side of the road. :-x

Whilst mercury is as beautiful as can be they are so disorganized! I remained at the parade from the beginning till about one and it was a mear drop of the total capacity of the band. When i returned at about five i was wowed to see the amount of people in the band.

this is one of the most disrespecting thing i have ever seen and this non-sense keeps happening every year and needs to stop. when are they gonna finally start recognizing the bouyon bands in carnival..no awards for the kkk’s the wck’s the first serenade’s the swinging stars the fanatik’s? come on man..only dominica does that shit..totally disrespect to our electronic bands like they are no part of carnival and they are the biggest players in what makes our carnival the most spontaneous. where is the incentive for the bands..like first electronic band on the road, best electronic band on the road, most powerfull band/sound system, biggest crowd etc..this will motivate the bands to put their best out there..this is a big thing in st.kitts and the other islands every year and it works..come on DFC stop hating and disregarding our own.

I side you with that….. Only in Dominica i see road march going to calypsonians… Where are the recognitions for the big bands….. In other islands bands trying there best to win road march because thats how they get to market themselves. When promoters planning events thats the main focus selling point… the road march champs of xxx country etc. Likes of kkks wcks etc you all should pressure DFC for you all to be recognize, because currently i dont see anything in it for your all.

The same thing happens every year in Antigua… to Mercury job well done… we need to bring change to mas in Dominica and in time it will evolve. So I say to mas players with Mercury: play to enjoy & have fun til society in Dominica can let go of their mentality.

Congratulations to all those who placed winners. I am certain next year you will even do your utmost to top it in theme and costume.
I was impressed that the schools took place and of their costumes. These days the children do not miss out unlike those days of my youth and later. They looked cute in their costumes and no doubt were full of energy.
I certainly missed this carnival and you know, it is thanks to DNO’s reporting which kept me (us) informed of the carnival proceedings.
I spoke to a few in D/ca after carnival who told me that “Carnival was good!” I said, “So was the weather.”
I would like to add one of them I spoke to is a dear nice lady who is in her early 90’s. Would you believe that? She also happily told me that carnival was good. I replied, “And your home is situated along the carnival route.”
Believe me, I was a bit envious that I was not present. Her home would be one of those homes that I would view carnival from and then later chip, chip to the wonderful music. What enjoyment!

Mercury need to make costumes – stop copying the Trinidadians. We know the ladies have lovely bodies but at least one year they show a little less skin

      March 11, 2014

Unfortunately, Mercury were fabulous, colourful, large band, however, when they first came on the route, they were probably a quarter of the band, they were not in sections and disorganised. Hence the sad outcome. Some band members got their costumes on the Tuesday morning. Mercury needs to get their act together. I am also curious about who the judges were…..not everyone is in favour of the tits and ass mas, buttocks, bellies and even nipples were in view in the band, who knows if this was frowned upon……..just wondering. Mercury was lovely though.

Mercury needs to understand this is Dominica nor Rio or Trinidad. Every year their costumes get more & more naked. A costume is not just a headpiece.

      • ok
        March 12, 2014

well i dont have a problem with the feathers and the swimsuit, thats why i along with many others pay our long money and join. If you have a problem with it do not join. we are not only paying for the costume but we pay for the live band, the enjoyment, the clean fun, the freedom to jump with noone pushing or booraging u in the band. If you have a problem with the nakedness stay at your home or walk away when u see the mercury band approaching.

      • jjjjj
        March 12, 2014

If u were proud of ur birthday suite u wouldnt make such statements……we doe need u in our band u sure is d nakedness u really want to complain about. just say u doe hve money to pay for d costume.doe make excuses bout nakedness.

      March 12, 2014

I don’t know why we always think that others cannot be better than others. Apparently mercury didn’t make the top three. I personally find their costumes were just pretty but every year is the same feathers and swimsuit costumes. Even on the road they were not organized every body was together like a soup, whereas in the other groups you could tell they had sections and they were orderly. I think maybe that is where the other groups beat them. Remember also our Carnival is not Trinidad with that swimsuit and feathers every year. there is no creativity in that. My favourite for the season was the stilt walkers. I just loved their costumes, very creative.

That’s why carnival in Roseau is going down hill ask yourself why is T&T is getting tourism to their carnival that Dominica you people are set in you all old ways and not thinking of promoting a product. Rio and T&T is getting more carnival tourism so they must be doing something good. Like i said before the likes of Portsmouth, Mahaut and St. joseph have been having the Roseau carnival lover come to their area instead of Roseau. Soon the WCK & TRIPLE KAY will do the same

Just BIG shame the way they have been treating MERCURY one of the best band for many years is like carnival is for one set, is a good thing there is places like St. Joseph and Portsmouth have some of the best carnival for me. St, Joseph had the best carnival action for 2014, the two weeks leading to carnival St. Joseph was the place to be. Who miss Roseau ?

Where is the people`s award? for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner, resulting in our Carnival dubbed the most peaceful Carnival in the World. I submit that an award should go to the people. And while we are at it lets have a complete report as to the success or none success of our just concluded Carnival. Show us the money.
