Marketing and Sales Manager for Digicel, Nathalie Walsh, has said that the company will remain a big sponsor for Dominica’s Carnival.
She said Digicel has already invested over $50,000 in cash towards Carnival this year.
“I have not included the in-kind support, but if you were to include the in-kind support, it would be well over $100,000,” she stated at a press conference on Tuesday during which she outlined the events the company will fund for Carnival 2016.
“At Digicel, we take pride in contributing to what is local, and in uplifting our people… Digicel is very pleased to help support, to help develop Dominica’s Carnival, to help develop Dominica’s culture,” Walsh said,
Walsh noted that the business made it a “point of duty” to partner with several parties to make Carnival as vibrant as possible.
“This year, Digicel made it a point of duty to partner with the various organizers and communities in putting together this event for Carnival,” she pointed out. “We have had a number of organizers coming through our doors for sponsorship… and we do our best not to deny anyone…Sometimes it could be in kind where we just want to assist in terms of marketing the event, or it could be a small cash contribution or a large cash contribution.”
She went on to reveal the array of events sponsored by Digicel this year.
“This year we have decided on a number of events: The St. Joseph Carnival… and we have sponsored the St. Joseph Carnival for a number of years. The Bouyon Monarch, this is the very first year, we’ll be showcasing the Bouyon Monarch … Triple K is also sponsored officially by Digicel. We will also be having Pan on the Beach [Sand] on weekends, Stardom Calypso Tent. Digicel is one of the headline sponsors for the Stardom Tent. We are also supporting Mas Camp this year.”
The company also became involved in the funding of pageants such as Miss Teen Dominica, and Mothers’ Carnival Queen, according to Walsh.
“I want to make reference to the teenage pageant. We are not only giving a cash contribution, but we are also supporting in kind… the lucky winner will actually receive a 7-inch tablet from Digicel,” she noted.
Digicel’s services will also be offered at the events sponsored by the company.
“Digicel will be doing a lot more… We will be activating our sponsorship at the various events. So, when persons go… they can also top up their handsets… We will be doing lots of giveaways. We’re giving away over $10,000 in cash and prizes this Carnival season,” Walsh revealed.
Both Digicel and its rival, Flow, have been under some scrutiny lately after a suggestion was made that the two companies to sponsor Carnival this year.
hmmmm…. FLOW and Digicel in LIMBO papa gad….
@as is over. don’t think these telecoms companies allow that level of co-sponsorship, u know…since lime is the head sponsor of the queen show some kinda thing so.
Sooooooo y dey cya sponsor d queen contestants….???? Smh
Because as Emile rightly said there is no value for their money in sponsoring a queen contestant. Wake up DFC.
