Erna Reynolds, 24, of Massacre, has been crowned the 2016 Carnival Mother’s Queen.
Reynold surpassed five other contestants at this year’s competition hosted at the Arawak House of Culture on Saturday.
She won awards for Best Talent, Best in Swimwear, Best Traditional Masquerade Wear and Best in Traditional Masquerade Wear. She was also named Miss Photogenic and Miss Intelligent.
“I feel delighted. I feel great. Words cannot explain how I feel right now,” she stated.
The overjoyed winner thanked all of her supporters.
“It helped a lot. When I heard them, that just gave me the strength to just do what I have to do,” she said.
She said that she hopes to spread the message that mothers can be responsible, yet have fun.
Tara Oscar of Portsmouth secured the first runner up title and copped the awards for Best Evening Wear, Best in Evening Wear and Best Swimwear.
Latisha Lockhart, who represented Newtown and Pointe Michel, placed second runner up and won the award for Miss Amity.
Last year’s winner, Frances Lockhart, was also present at the event.

Yes, mother’s can be responsible and have fun. This was not so in those days about “having fun” while mothers nurtured their children. Many stayed home. It shows we are residing in a different era and times have changed.
What is important you nurture your child or children to be overall godly, good and model citizens which will benefit them to adulthood and in years to come. Being a Carnival Queen, it is your obligation as a mother to instill this discipline.

First Runner up got only “Best Swimwear” which means her swimwear was more desirable or outstanding. It looked great and was the type of suitable swimwear for the event and then the winner got “best IN swimwear” which means she more than likely modeled and posed and walked and looked the best in it, maybe a little better than the others.
