Five young ladies from the Dominica State College (DSC) have been challenged to take pageantry in Dominica to a higher lever when they participate in the 2014 Miss DSC Mass Jamboree pageant.
Jesse Prince, Primrose David, Sherlyn Hill, Thalia Celestine and Shanon Joseph were officially launched as the 2014 contestants for this year’s pageant on Tuesday morning at the DSC Auditorium.
Speaking at the launch, Events Director for the Dominica Festivals Committee, Nathalie Clarke, advised the contestants to continue the strive to develop their creative minds.
“I am proud when young people not only want to be intellectual but also want to raise the bar and raise the standard in their creativity, in their talent in other areas of their personal journey in life,” she said. “I love it when we have spaces where we can do this, often in the region we don’t have the creative spaces where we can excel in a safe environment.”
She added that the Miss Jamboree pageant is more than beauty but also about brains and talent.
Meantime, Director of Student Services at the college, Edgar Hunter, said that the DSC Mass Jamboree pageant is yet another way in which the college is making its contribution to Mass Dominik celebrations.
“The objectives of this pageant are as follows; to enable contestants to serve as role models for other young women with similar goals and characteristics, to encourage contestants to value personal achievements, a healthy lifestyle and community involvement, and thirdly, to serve as a breeding ground for the Miss Dominica pageant,” he noted.
Hunter noted that the contestants “will be judged on beauty, intelligence, cultural awareness, style and attitude.”
Other activities which will make up the event include a mini band splash and a calypso segment.
Miss DSC Mass Jamboree will take place at the Krazy Kokonutz on February 27th, 2013.
