IN PICTURES: Carnival Street Festival 2018

On Friday afternoon Mas Domnik 2018 formally took off with the staging of a street festival on the Dame Eugenia Boulevard in Roseau.

The festival replaced the usual Opening of Carnival parade since the Carnival calendar had to be adjusted in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

The festival gave patrons a glimpse of what to expect during the Carnival season

Doe get me wrong, just an observation, nothing against fat people but obesityobesity seems to now be woven into our carnival. That’s what a high food import bill can do even to culture. It’s no wonder one can run or jug at the Roseau market cause there’s hardly anyone there buying the fresh colorful veggies and produce. It just dawned to me a former fat lady who shed the pounds by eating mostly vegetables as the norm, and the occasional fast food I must admit. :?:

    Dominica! Dominica! Dominica! Behave yourself!
Look deeply at what is portrayed during this event. The reveling, half naked bodies, drunkenness, masks that depict ugly unknown creatures, sexual immorality increased, violence, all sorts of violations against God’s laws….
before you respond, give me 1 aspect of carnival which glorifies God almighty! Just ONE!
You see, you are playing with the dark world and year after year demanding more spirits than those which are being bound….just by your lifestyles.
I can’t keep silent about things which destroy others. Please stop grieving the Holy Spirit!
Don’t you hear Him year after year, day after day? “Stop this is not you! This is not what i created you for! Please, i want good things for you but i cannot help you if you are not willing”
Dominicans, life is not in our hands! It is time to surrender! Can’t you see that we are losing the battle? Desolate will we be if we continue in our ways.
    Mercy Lord! Mercy. Mercy. Please.

At least this event gave some people a respite from the gloomy and depressing life they have to endure on a daily basis.
